Remps Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I have an oppertunity to pick up a Native run GLX for a good price. I have never used one and I am wondering what everyone thinks of them. The rod on the table is a 9'6" 6wt. Thanks for any information you can give me. Pike Quote
adams Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I've got the GL3 and it's not a bad rod in the $300 - $400 range. Don't know about the GLX. Quote
Flyfisher Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Cast one and see how it feels. I have a couple of GLX's. Not sure where you are or what you intend to use it for, but for stillwater, large streams and rivers like the Bow I prefer the GLX Streamdance series. The 'Experience' model would be my choice in a 6wt. The Native Run is more of a steelhead and salmon stick - a bit much for most trout fishing IMO. Quote
lorney Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I have an 8wt Native Run GLX I use for pike and it is great for tossing big flies and bringing in large pike. Mine is a 10' rod. I also have a couple 5wt streamdance rods that are great. G Loomis makes some nice rods in my opinion. Quote
rhuseby Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 While I don't own a Native Run, I did try it in comparison to the Crosscurrent when I was shopping for a saltwater rod. If yu don't plan on doing a lot of casting over about 60 feet it is a sweet casting rod that is very smooth and accurate. If you plan on a lot of long distance casting, it begins to struggle beyond the aforementioned 60 feet. Quote
Pipestoneflyguy Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I had a 6wt crosscurrent - basically ditto what flyslinger posted It is one of the ones I gave away when I got my helios (5wt) - just didn't use it anymore Quote
rollyy Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 glx is a great rod, have 2 of my own. the rod is just as good as any sage or orvis rod. I think that all rods have hit a plateau as far as performance goes> Quote
Tungsten Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I remember hearing something about Loomis taking a long time on warranty claims. I could be wrong, don't own one. Quote

vancouver Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Loomis makes a fine rod.. You won't go wrong with it.. It will do anything you ask. True it flexes into the but a bit a bit more than the crosscurrent. But it still casts a lot of line with the right stroke.. Quote
