  1. I was on the sheep down stream from Turner Valley about a week and a half ago and I lost my net, so yesterday I decided to go out and and try to find it. The weather looked like it was going to stay clear and boy was I wrong. I got to about the third hole when I stared smelling rain, I looked behind me and she was coming. I figured I would keep fishing until I started getting wet, that was a mistake. The water was dirty from the last two day of rain so I decided to nymph and pick up some whitefish. So right before the rain hit I hooked into a whitefish, so I thought. After a few minutes of not getting the fish off the bottom I figured it was a bull and I fairly nice one. So by this time the rain has hit and with the rain so did pea size hail! I wasn't going to break off the fish to go find cover. So about 10 minutes later I landed this mid 20's Bull, and sure enough the hail stopped for now. This marked the fist time I caught a bull with a nymph. The next cast I hooked into either a rainbow or a whitefish, and right as it came to the surface one of the biggest bulls I have ever seen just demolished this fish. I have had bulls chase cutts in the mountain streams before but not like this, usually they chase them around and get them then let go when they see you and so on. This bull hit the fish and went right to the bottom and by the next time I saw him about 10 minutes later he still had the fish in his mouth. he decided to go for a fun and took me to the next pool. After fighting the fish for a bit longer I landed him. I figured to see the other fish in his mouth but instead a size 14 prince hooked into the side of his lip. I figured that the fish got off and the nymph hooked him, but I still cant understand how that happened because the big bull T-bonded the fish so the nymph would be outside of the bulls mouth. So I have no idea how it happened but I am glad to see that it did. The big bull was just over 30. my biggest fish on a fly rod so I was a happy camper. I know that this post is useless with out pics but I didn't bring my camera because I figured I would be catching anything either then Whites. My very next cast hooked into another bull with the nymph. I am not sure if there stacking up for spawning, but I thought they head up to the falls for the spawn. I stopped fishing that hole because I didn't want to interrupt them. I caught a few more smaller bulls on the nymph down the river but nothing huge. I didn't end up finding my net and I did get hailed on again on the way back to the truck but a 30ish inch bull to hand sure made me happy I went. Thanks for taking the time to read.
  2. On your TS3 there is an option for underwater mode. Is it more clear when your using that mode underwater and do you know what happens if you don't use that mode underwater?
  3. Just picked up the panasonic TS3 from the camera store, they were the cheapest and had some additional stuff with it. I can't wait to finally post pictures with it. Now I just need fish.
  4. I am in the market for a new underwater camera, and after a pile of research I am stuck between two. Panasonic lumic DMC-TS3 and the Sony TX10. I am sure I cant go wrong with either but I want some peoples input on them, the likes and dislikes. Thanks for the input
  5. I would avoid the upper sheep, although very beautiful river up there it just doesn't hold many fish. The lower reaches hold good number of bulls if that's your thing. Highwood is a nice option you got some nice bulls and can get into some nice cutts as well. Good luck
  6. I am no expert here and I don't have any pictures but I was on a river down south and I came across what I thought were green drakes. They started coming out in mid to late afternoon and they were very big. I put on a green drake imitation and absolutely cleaned up on the cutts. I guess my question is I thought they hatched much earlier. Does anyone run into green drakes this time of year. Thanks
  7. Never fished the castle, what do you think my beat bet is. Up or lower sections. Thanks
  8. Me and my buddy got a few days off in the middle of the week and were looking for some ideas where to go. He was thinking of going to the Panther and a few other rivers around there. I have not fished it but I am not sure it would be worth the while. I was thinking of going down south to fish the Castle area. Does anyone know how those rivers have been fishing at all. Or does anyone have another river suggestion. Thanks for any help you can give.
  9. I don't have a William joseph, but it sounds like I am missing out. I have a orvis safe passage anglers pack with attachable chest back. I can also clip it around my waist. I really like it but I brleive it costs more then most other packs.
  10. Does all the fly shops sell Hardy's? If not all does anyone know which ones do?
  11. What kind of reel would you put on a 6wt Zenith. My thoughts is that its going to have to be a fairly light reel because the rod is a feather. Also from what i have read it sounds like the rod is fairly line sensitive, that being said would anybody know what kind of line might be a good option for this rod. I am looking for a sink tip and a line that would be used mainly for nymphing.
  12. So I am in the market for a new 6wt and I have been looking into the Hardy Zenith. It seems like its an amazing rod, I picked one up and loved the feel. I was just wondering if any body knows more about these rods, or has anybody used one. Thanks for any feedback.
  13. I have an oppertunity to pick up a Native run GLX for a good price. I have never used one and I am wondering what everyone thinks of them. The rod on the table is a 9'6" 6wt. Thanks for any information you can give me. Pike
  14. Totally agree with your last coment. I will have to go around and try a few different ones on and see from there. I am interested on seeing and trying the Patagonia ones that are coming out. And to see if there is some kind of warranty with them.
  15. Those wholesale waders look nice, I really like the big zipper. I want something that doesn't feel like I am wearing your everyday bulky wader. I already have bulky waders and want something that I can take off and put on easily and be comfortable. (everyones dream I guess) Thanks for the link Pike
  16. I am looking at purchasing some wading pants. I have full chest waders already and I only use them when I really need to (winter). The idea of wading pants is appealing for me because I fish mainly mountain streams spring creeks. Don't know many brands that have waders in a pants style. I know Orvis and Simms does Any thoughts on these brands or any others out there. What is better and why. Thanks for the insight. Pike

    Beads

I am looking at buying a bunch of tungsten beads, I was wondering what is the most common size that you guys and gals are tying with (1/16", 5/64", 3/32", 7/64", 1/8", 5/32", 3/16"). I know that all sizes are used and I am ordering some of each but I would get more of one if it was more popular on the rivers. Thanks for any help you can give me Pike
  18. Thanks, Thats what I was leaning towards. Have you used Dave Whitlock SLF Dubbing if so how do you like it and is it somewhat similar to antron? Pike
  19. Hi there I haven't been tying long any the majority is dries. I am looking at tying nymphs now and need some advice. What do you rather use on nymphs, Ice dub or Antron? The dubbing I have now is Super Fine and Hairs Ear plus dubbing (Antron for sparkle) Thanks for the help Pike
  20. I found that there prices are a decent price and they seem to have everything I need so I will give them a try. thanks for the help Pike
  21. I am looking at ordering fly tying materials from a wholesaler. I am wondering if anyone has ordered with them before and what you thought. I have a place in the states to get it shipped to so I wont have to pay for shipping. Thanks for the help Pike
  22. If you were to bring only 5 flies out to a mountain stream what would they be? Mine would have to be: 1. Deer hair caddis 2. BWO 3. Humpy 4. Stonefly nymph 5. Double bunny I am not trying to get your secret flies, just for fun. Pike
  23. You can definitely manage with out waders I have for along time but when you finely go out any get a pair you wonder why you haven't earlier. I really don't like using waders and the majority of the time a wet wade with some dry fast wading pants. But when it comes to the bow and winter fishing it is a must in my mind. there is always a place where you want to go but cant with out waders.
  24. I am a fan of Korkers for the reasons changeable souls and there lacing system is great. I wet wade all summer and use Korker's wading shoe there great. My suggestion is to stay away from felt as they will carry disease from one river to another, as well as felt is going to come off the market due to the reason given.
  25. I started making furled leaders about a week ago, I haven't used them yet. What I here about them is that they are amazing, great turn over and the ability to customize them to what ever you want. I enjoy making them (when they turn out the way there supposed to). Does anyone out there use them and if so how do they like them. also if anyone makes them would they let me know what they use. I personally use UNI and #4 mono. I am looking for #2 but not sure where to find it. Any stories using furled leaders or sharing some tips and tricks would be great Pike
