Bandi Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Last weekend I stopped at a bird-watch tower to photograph some of the moving birds and saw something exciting. About half-way to my session, I saw many of the birds taking off and chasing a bird. It was an osprey looking for a prey. He took only a few rounds and dived into the water. When he was back in the air, he held a huge bream. After turning it head first, he flied away. Quote
trailhead Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Last time I got skunked on the Bow I saw a Osprey dive down and pick up a decent Rainbow (12") Then a immature Bald Eagle chased the Osprey to try and get it to drop the fish. I never saw the outcome as they flew off upstream and around the bend. Quote
duanec Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 modz: like to report this photo for showing incorrect handling of fish... jk. nice shots man! Quote
Bandi Posted September 18, 2010 Author Posted September 18, 2010 Thanks everyone. Trailhead, I have read that this is common behavior of the eagle... a kind of symbiosis . I haven't seen that myself. National Geographic says "Eagles often force osprey to drop fish that they have caught and steal them in midair." Quote
