I have alot of confidence in Babcock as a coach......He'll get the most out of what he's got and he's got lots.......If someone isn't putting out Bacock will let him watch.......I think the team is fine but the Russians, Fins and Americans will all contend so it won't be easy........And as for bringing back the Juniors, Brian, look at the number of players on this team that have Junior international experience........I like their youth.......

In all these climate change discussions I have yet to see one person who does not believe in AGW say they were not in favour of cleaning up the environment and reducing pollution.........Using AGW as a scare tactic to get people to do that is wrong.........Some will argue that the end justifies the means but many prefer to be told the truth (especially by scientists) and make thier own decisions.........

And I never said it was their projection---you also should read........My point is simply the fear monger b.s. that people are being subjected to as vested interests try and have their way......To say that this kind of sensationalism is o.k. in any context---political or scientfic---in my view is just wrong........It's religion of the worst kind----"if you don't believe, you'll burn in hell".......What crap.......In a population of 100 people, there are 1 or 2 leaders and the rest will follow like sheep..........Sure they may stray from the flock from time to time, but they really want someone to show the way so they don't have to find their own........If the leaders are corrupt---Hitler, Rev. At least there could be some sanity starting to take hold as a result of all the discussion..........Thank goodness for the internet and leaked emails.......The eat local thing sounds good and is easy to embrace......But as someone who has spent a career in, or close to, agriculture, the inefficincies in our global food system are primarily the result of politics and trade........Why else would Canada continue to protect a select few farmers to produce sugar beets when we could import sugar from countless countries that could produce it at 1/5 the cost?..........Just because it's produced locally doesn't mean it's cheap or cheap to produce or that it has a low carbon footprint.........

But you still miss the point........No one argues the need for sustainable, renewable, non carbon energy sources.........To suggest that we reduce carbon consumption based on the hoax of AGW is ridiculous........If you believe that the global warming scare and skewed science is justified in reducing carbon consumption then I guess you believe that lying to create an outcome, even though said outcome may be desirable is o.k............As Terry said, that's not how science is supposed to happen.........

I think this is the key point in the whole debate........The "warmers" almost had it by trying to shut down the debate, saying "the science is clear and now is the time for action and the debate is closed".........And if you were a "denier", well, there were comparisons to the holocaust and the flat earth society.........Now we find that the science wasn't science at all (objective, repeatable, etc.) but simply an attempt to prove, regardless of how manipulated was the data, opinions based on vested interests.......Wonder what else, beyond the climate debate might be a bit askew??

Your comment works for Apartheid and WW2 for sure, at least for you and I, but when it comes to tar sands, seals, whales, dolphins, grizzly bears, etc., etc., etc., what makes one man's opinion "right" and worthy of unlawful protest while another's is wrong??.....Because I believe that spending $$$Trillions to reduce carbon emissions to combat climate change is wrong (and I do beleive that) does that give me the right to illegally protest given that I may not be right at all??....I'm done now with this thread and apologies for the semi-hijack.......

You're right Rick you can, and are entitled to your opinion............I guess that's how Pamela Anderson feels about the seal hunt too.....And you have the right to protest if you feel strongly about it..........Where I draw the line is with activists breaking the law to protest and what seems to be leniency by law enforcement/governments with regard to punsihing the law breakers........Whether it's seal hunt protests, oil sands protests or dolphin slaughter protests do what you want within the law because you are entitled to express your opinion........But it is sheer arrogance to say, as one oil sands protester hanging from the Shell upgrader (illegally) said when asked why he thought it was o.k. to break the law, "We need to do whatever is necessary until "they" listen to us"........Arrogant......

Good to hear.......I think the sensationalism that our seal hunt gets in protest is not unlike the dolphin issue........Because alot of folks see them as cute and cuddly as in the case of baby seals or friendly pets (Flipper) in the case of dolphins, our emotions over-ride common sense.........Not saying that killing dolphins is good/bad/right, just stating a fact about the human psyche.......We jump on the bandwagon too quickly for alot of things (anthropogenic global warming) based largely on emotion and not fact..............

While we're on this, I'll bet everyone is against the Canadian seal hunt as well??...........Let's be careful here, folks.......

The last (9th) comment by Scientist on the Steve Janke article pretty much sums up the stupidity of this debate..........."I'm a scientist and therefore I know what's right and what's best and you're just a hack who knows nothing"..........If the point of Janke's column on idealists wasn't clear to begin with, Mr. Scientist sure drove the point home in spades.......
