  1. Hey Jeff..... So sorry to hear about your misfortunes..........Clive filled me in a bit after chatting with you when you got back..........Bummer for sure..........You wanted the trip of a lifetime and I guess you're hoping that was it..........Next one will be better..........At least you stayed as positive as possible and fooled a few fish............Good on ya!!.......Will look forward to seeing you on some open water at Bullshead one of these days soon...........I leave for Belize on Tuesday...........Hoping my trip is not quite as "eventful" as yours..........
  2. "or old fly fishers to meet new people" I resemble that remark!!
  3. Yes, you can............TUC office on Fisher St...........If Kimberly is not there, she has left instructions with others in the office on how to handle payments...........
  4. Tip #200 A bad day fishing is--------a bad day...... Tip #201 The best eating fish are found at Costco Tip #202 Liquor should not be allowed when ice fishing----then no one would do it........
  5. Good point Troutlover.........Unfortunately the Town of Cardston probably has not yet see the economic spin this lake can---and will---produce...........It's just a bit too early but in a year or two when the quality improves to where it can be with a bit more time, you're dead on...........There will be significant economic benefits to the area.............
  6. Condolences, Lynn..........I haven't had the pleasure of a face to face, just a few emails and phone conversations, but I feel for you pain and thoughts are with you.......
  7. Had to bring this thread back to the top of the page..........Things are heating up a bit here in Lethbridge (unfortunately not weather-wise) with a recent letter to the editor in the local rag which basically suggests that the Quality Fishery reg's on Police Lake are just one step towards privatization by the elite fly-fishers and encouraging everyone and their family, whether they fish or not, to vote to have the old reg's re-instated........As well, a letter to one of the TU Chapter directors here stated that with the change in regulations at Police he has been "basically shut out of a fishing paradise I have enjoyed since the sixties and the resentment I feel knows no bounds."........While I don't propose to understand what goes on in the minds of folk to make them think this way I can only say that it is IMPERATIVE THAT ALL WHO WANT TO SEE THE MOVE TO MORE CHOICE FOR ANGLERS AND THE NEED FOR MORE QUALITY FISHERIES NEED TO VOTE!!........Here's how to vote: Email Terry.Clayton@gov.ab.ca. Put "Police Lake Review" in the subject line and vote to keep the current Quality Fishery Reg's

  9. 40 lb. test tiger wire, a rapala and a 6 ft. bait caster...........
  10. Simple math Don but a bit flawed...........First, estimates are that when stocking fry or even fingerlings, mortality due to birds, fish, a changed environment and other critters is about 75-90%......We also know that there has been and will continue to be some poaching and there is hooking mortality, whether we want to admit it or not, by the C&R fraternity..........There were also a number of "legal" fish killed over the last 3 years.............Sooooooooo, while I agree that once the population stabilizes at a level that allows reasonable annual growth and the stocking rate is appropriate (I neither I nor the bio's know what that number should be) the fishery will continue to evolve.........The key is, to keep the existing regs and allow that evolution which is why everyone needs to cast their VOTE!!
  11. Donations in past have run the full gamut.......Flies, fly fishin equipment, casting lessons, trips (and you needn't be a licenced guide to offer a trip), art, clothing, lodging, ski lessons/trips..........The list is endless and includes, in simplicity, ANYTHING THAT WILL SELL AT AUCTION!!.....You can have a look at last years auction thread under the pinned Stream Watch title for detailed information.........There are guidelines for tax receipts---I'm sure RICKR will post those in his rules and regulations---but all donors and buyers can take pride in the fact they are helping to fill the education and enforcement gap that exists on many of our trout waters.........
  12. Thanks for the reminder Brian........There WILL be a Stream Watch Auction and RICKR has agreed to once again be the master auctioneer............ We already have a start to fundraising with the Stream Watch raffle thanks to the good work of H2O and thanks to our generous sponsors.........About $2500 was raised in that venture..........Support from our resource partners http://www.albertastreamwatch.com/ (the website is in the process of being updated) continues and our Oldman River Trout Unlimited Chapter will again be making a significant contribution....... Cost for a Student Officer will again be in the $40-45K range and we are targetting a minimum of 2 Officers as we had last year..........If we can raise more funds we could hire more officers........One will be located in Central Alberta and one in Southern Alberta....... Soooooooo.........The call is out for support----donations, buyers, and don't forget our request to have anglers support Stream Watch with a $100/year cash donation.............I'm sure RICKR will be posting soon the auction guidelines and in the meantime you can p.m. either RICKR or ME with your donations............ Thanks in advance and looking forward to another year of good fun in raising money for the resource we all love....... Al.........
  13. Or, strictly catch and release...........Or 1 of any size maximum 5 per angler per season...........Or instead of closure Nov. 1 to March 31, just NO ICE FISHING.......... There are all kinds of things that could/should change in the regs, many of which have already been debated on this Board.........However, our biggest concern at moment is to keep Police as a Quality Fishery with the existing regs. and then those can be further reviewed over time........Having said that, there's no harm, Sundance in stating your preference to Terry when you cast your vote!!
  14. Thanks Dennis........I think you Muir guys are still the pioneers of the Quality Fishery movement...........
  15. Stocked.........Prior to new regs was stocked with about 150,000 fish a year many of which were "harvested" shortly after the hatchery truck put them in......... Last 3 years have seen 30,000 triploids stocked to enhance the fishery and better balance the food supply........Police has not shown the spectacular growth rates of fish that Bullshead did but it's coming..........Certainly worth continuing on the path we're on.........
  16. It's time to vote, folks........Hope you have all had a chance to fish Police under the new regs. Progress is a bit slow but it's coming......There are still some of the old guard who want it back the way it was........If you believe we need MORE ANGLER CHOICE and MORE QUALITY FISHERIES in the Province it is imperative that you make your voice heard. Outlined below is the review process. Please be sure to vote and also let any of your fishing associates who may not use this Board know as well....... Al...... Police Outpost Lake. Review of Quality Fishing Regulation. Public/Stakeholder Input requested. Proposal #1 Keep the current regulations (1 Trout Limit over 50 cm; Bait Ban; Closed November 1 to March 31) Proposal #2 Go back to the previous regulations (5 Trout Limit; No Size Restrictions; No Bait Ban; Open Year Round) You can send your opinion to: Terry Clayton Senior Fisheries Biologist ASRD Fish and Wildlife Division 2nd Floor, YPM Place 530-8 Street South Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 2J8 Fax: (403) 381-5723 Email: Terry.Clayton@gov.ab.ca Terry will be accepting letters, faxes and emails up until Tuesday may 31, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. No phone calls will be accepted and only one response per angler, please. Please put "Police Lake Regulations" in the email subject line and feel free to indicate the reasons for your choice. Alberta Sutainable Resource Development, Fisheries Management Division, appreciates your feedback and will consider your input when making a final management decision.
  17. 1877 is a bit harsh but I agree we are tardy........My son looks after the website as a volunteer (it was completely redone last year to add links, bring current etc.) and he will update it as soon as I get the new annual report which apparently is in the mail..........Also have a few newer pictures from this past summer.......Sorry for the delay........
  18.
