Hi everyone, what is the common rod weight(s) used for Pike in Calgary or in Alberta. Will a 7wt saltwater rod be sufficient?

I experienced that as well, the indicator went under on every cast! but no hook ups. I remedied it by exactly doing what Monger suggested, I moved or inched the indicator slowly and started to hook up. The fish might thought the Chironomid was getting away and hit it harder.

Exactly right, the interference is a noisy story and looks like this isn't gonna be like at the Disneyland. I just made a call to my cellphone provider and add the international calling feature for a month so we could use our US mobiles in Canada as well.

You are absolutely right, they worked really well when we were at Disneyland, shopping outlets, lakes, between cars, etc but not so much in and around downtown area or around tall trees.

I am visiting from the States this April and we usually bringing a set of 2 way radio with us when we travel. Easier to connect than calling using cell phones. I am wondering what the law will be to use them in Calgary? Our second party will be staying at a hotel near the Airport and I planning to try to catch a fish for half a day. thank you

I think it requires a minimum depth of 30cm, I am not quite sure. There are plenty of youtube videos about it. There was a video of a guy casting it upstream and letting it floats pass a fishing hole. check it out.

I think you might like a product called Deeper Smart Fish Finder. I bought one and used it for fishing from the shore line and from a float tube. It basically works with your Android or Iphone, very neat and easy to use. I didn't use extra fishing pole to throw it, I threw it by hand with just a spinning reel or lines peeled off the reel.

I think the current trend in switch line is they now come with integrated running line which work perfectly fine for me since I strip the head all the way in before casting it out. The heads are also more like hybrid heads so you can Waltz and Salsa with it. Although, I am not doing a lot of 2H and just recently down to just 1 Echo switch (I've just sold my Beulah Platinums 6wt switch and 5wt spey) I am still keeping the same 2 setups. 1 Reel with 25# OPST Lazar running line for floating heads and 1 reel for Ambush intermediate. Speaking of mending running line for nymphing; I am sure you've heard of a guy name Steve Godshall out of Medford, Oregon. He has what he called the Mend Master running line, and he'll splice custom head to meet your rod and your fishing needs.

I heard that Switch Chucker was good for nymphing since the handling section can help you mend better. Another line that is good for switch rod is the Royal Wulff Ambush, the taper design is close to Airflo Rage compact, and they come with just the heads and complete full lines. However, if you thinking about dry fly presentation, you might want to consider Scandi type heads. I have the same spey rod as Vagabond, Beulah Platinum 5wt 11'7" Spey, I am using Beulah Elixir V2 300 switch version with and 10ft versileader for it. Really good for touch and go cast and will do sustained anchor casts as well. Unlike Scandi heads; the Ambush is not Air Jordan. It will turn over the fly rather quickly. The new SA Switch Adapt is pretty similar to Ambush, with bit longer belly than the Ambush which probably will give you better loop stability and won't turn over as quickly as the Ambush. Please note that I am still learning how to 2H myself and at times still getting that smack in the back of the head for being too fast and too aggressive with my casting, so don't sue me over the above opinion.

I built a Blue Halo 5wt Raw and it is a nice casting rod, a little bit faster than their 3wt class but still pretty much parabolic. The next glass for my to build is the Ijuin Yomogi 4wt 7'3" Semi Parabolic. I also have a Kabuto 3wt 7'3" that I really like, a bit faster than the Blue Halo, very similar to Orvis Glass 3wt.

thanks guys, I called the fish tales fly shop and got some tips on where to go and tried to google map them. My goal is to catch 1 Bow river trout and I would be happy. Stonefly, The 6wt superfine feels much stiffer than the rest of the series and has reserve power to throw bigger flies. I however will not use it for bigger bugs or size 2 streamers. Like the rest of the series, the 6wt is pretty delicate and smooth but I don't use it often since I like the superfine touch 5wt 7'6" more.

Thank you for the reply JT. I will entertain hiring a guide next time when the I have the whole day to fish. I probably will bring the 6 wt superfine touch with me and try the southern part of the city.

Although I have never fished the Bow river yet, I would bring my Beulah Platinum Spey 5wt 11'7" with 300 scandi and 300 rage compact with 10ft of versi leaders for it.
