  1. I have gone through the alberta provincial parks website and can not find anything that tells you when any of the provincial campgrounds open. I am looking for a place somewhere in and around the crowsnest where I an take my wife and kids for a weekend ( may 2-4). Have a 26 foot trailer but dont need any hookups. Just want to start camping. Anyone know when the prov .campgrounds open or have any other suggestions for that weekend ( can leave on the friday morning so first come first serve will work). thanks
  2. a 10 pound fish of either species would be over 30 inches. theres a reason there havent been any pics of either. its a once in a life time fish on the bow so cant imagine one guy who has lost countless fish in this range. Has anyone got a pic of a legitmate 8-10 lb ( 30 inch +) brown or bow from an alberta river? would love to see one ps. not flaming. I also seem to " lose" the 10 pounders and land all the 2 pounders when telling stories around the campfire.
  3. how much do you need. I'll check my shower drains tonight
  4. just a guess, but as salt water is much more bouyant than fresh water i suspect a saltwater floating line wouldnt have the "floatability" of a fresh water line. conversely a sinking saltwater line would have to be heavier to provide the same degree of "sinkability" as a fresh water sinking line.
  5. 6 year period but only 5 years in the post season ( 2005 was a lockout) so technically it was 6 straight years. as far as facts go, they just slow a guy down. me and smitty dont need facts to argue oiler vs flame hockey . I dont have time to google when im in full rant
  6. Smitty, you continue to ignore the fact that these young stars will not sign in edmonton so its irrelevant. Ask any player which city they would prefer to play in and its a landslide. Ask any player where they dont want to play and again its a landslide. Thats what i find so amusing is that all the oiler fans are clining to the dream of this new young dynasty even though everything in the past 10 years shows these players are gonna high tail it at the first oppourtunity. You mentioned the 7 consecutive years of non playoff hockey. I agree that we were as incompetent then as the oiler staff is now. The differences are that the building was damn near empty and the ownershop was forced to make mass changes. They fired all the management and brought in D sutter. That started our 6 year run in the playoffs. The oilers have sucked for the last 12 years and continue to let the guy responsible run the team . I notice you have never refuted all the botches that i have credited to KLown and co. And even though he made moves/nonmoves that made the entire organization look bad, lied to fans year after year and produced a horrible on ice prodcut on an annual basis, the fans still filled the building and Oilers ownership not only backed KLown, they promoted him. Are the Deadmonton masses loyal fans or dummies willing to take whatever scrap was thrown to them? Definietly a good GM in a real city could turn the young oiler squad into a formidable bunch. Unfortunately that is not the case. You have a poor GM representing the only city in professional hockey that makes Siberia look good. Again, in 3 years when the oil are ready to make the jump to playoff contender, Hall and Eberle will already be packing their bags. No matter how you slice it, the oilers are simply the highest paid farm ssytem in the league.
  7. again, only the leafs and oilers have fans dumb enough to fill the building night after night when they have set the standard for incompetancy. W We miss the playoffs one year in the last 7(last year), had a poor start to this year and made immediate changes. Since sutter was removed they have been one of the top 3 teams in the NHL ( unfortuantely too big a hole was dug early in the year). Again, its gonna be challenging next year but we will be challenging for a playoff spot again next year. As i said , in 2012, we have a ton of cap space and can buy whatever we need. Now, lets look at the oiler philososphy. Miss the playoffs year after year, watch top UFAs pick up and leave, piss of every GM in the league with the amateurish move with Penner, amuse the whole league with the botched Hossa and Heatley negotiations. Do they fire the nimwit resposilbe? No, they promote him and allow him run the team through the Tambellini blow up doll. Lets fast forward to 3 years from now. Hall and Eberle will be RFAs. They will want big money and will have been with a team that has never even had a sniff of a playoff game. A team that is annually booking tee times every february. They will have lived in a city with very little to offer a 23 year old millionaire . KLown will still be runnnig the show . When their agents ask them where they want to resign what do you think is gonna happen? Again, edmonton is the best farm team in the NHL. Perhaps time for the Deadmonton masses to remove their heads from wherever they may be lodged.
  8. a city and organization that young players, RFAs, and UFAs, want to come to. Ill take that bet because Im willing to bet the ranch that none of the young players you guys are dreaming will lead you to a cup will stay in Edmonton once they can sign a real contract. Partially because of the city and mainly because of the dingus running the team ( the guy who gets to pull the strings on the tambellini puppet). We miss the playoffs 2 years in a row, and we fire the GM . You guys miss the playoffs over and over, finish in the basement year after year, screw up after screw up when trying to retain or sign UFAs and you promote your guy ( while still letting him run the team). Sorry, but as long as KLown is there, the oil will always be considered Micky Mouse around the league
  9. wow Smitty, im flattered but you may need to get out a little more. The flames were almost as bad as the oil are now before 2004. We then made the playoffs 5 consecutive years and had one of the top winning percentages of any team in the league over that time frame. Not many other teams made the post season 5 years in a row in that same time frame ( I think maybe only the wings and sharks). Granted we didnt have the playoff success we hoped for, but it beat booking tee times in mid february (not mentioning any names). The last 2 years we missed the playoffs. Again, our barometer for shitty is much different than the recent edmonton standard (shitty means finishing 29th instead of 30th to the average oiler fan). No denial here. Next year will be a challenge. Again, in 2012 we have only 6 guys signed and a ton of cap space. Fortunately we live in a city where young players want to move to and play in so rebuild will happen. Right around the time eberle and Hall will have given their agents the " get me the hell out of here" speech. Keep smilin Smitty. Gonna be another long year for you next year
  10. Thats all the leafs and oilers fans have is history. Both teams also have fans dumb enough to continue to fill the building even though they have mismanaged their teams into the ground. As bad as the flames may be next year we will still throttle the junior/ahl team that edmonton will ice(our captain will likley have more career poinst than the entire starting lineup for the next season) . The following year we have approx 35 million in freed up cap space to rebuild. Keep stockpiling draft picks. You guys have an incredible farm system for the rest of the NHL. By the time any of the young oilers are actually real stars they will be getting the hell out of edmonton as fast as they can and Klown can continue selling the Deadmonton masses on his 30 year rebuilding process (I wonder which american team Taylor Hall and Eberle will sign with when their rookie contracts expire).
  11. Of course its easier for an oiler fan to recognize poor hockey, bad trades, horrible GMing etc. We have only been dealing with it the last 2 seasons wheras oiler fans have seen it on a daily basis for the last 10 years. We just dont have as much experience with craptacular as our brethren to the north. ps. as bad as its been the last 2 years we are 11-1 vs the oilers in that period. if were bad then...........
  12. I believe groucho marx used this joke to open his monologues in the 1930s. ps. why do geese fly upside down over edmonton. theres nothing worth sh#ting on
  13. no, based on the "angle" i referred to criterium number 2 wasnt met. If a guy takes a guy down from directly behind him then its a penalty shot. Staios came at him slightly from the side (hence the good angle on the opposition player)
  14. not true. check the rules. if staios had contacted the puck FIRST, and then took the legs out from the ducks player its no penalty. Unfortunately that was not the case as staios clearly dumped the player long before his stick touched the puck ( intent is immaterial). That being said, he had a good angle on the player so it should have been just a 2 minute penalty ( again check the letter of the rule regarding penalty shots). The penalty i had a hard time with was Bourques. They were both hacking and whacking each other and the ref decides to tag just Rene. Iffy call at best ,but bourque should have known better with a one goal lead and 3 minutes to play. Add that to Nashvilles miracle comeback and things are looking a little bleak. They still have a chance but need 6 wins in their last 8 to get it done ( to bad we only have 2 games against the oilers left)
  15. soccers might be the game for you. no one ever gets hurt( except the guys throwing darts at each other in the stands). professioanl bowling is also a great game for the weak of heart. Im so tired of non hockey fan, bleeding heart liberals voicing uneducated opinion on the best game and league ( nhl) on the planet. If you dont like it, dont watch it. Ill bet my house you have never been to a junior game and only watched the olympic games because it was on before the figure skating
  16. I read somewhere that the last 2 time the flames and nucks met in the first round(since the conference rankings have been used), the winner of the series went on to the cup final so heres hopin. garantee it would be the most interesting first round matchup ( unless boston and the habs square off in round one)
  17. he has a clean record which was one of the reasons for no suspension. Chara is known around the league as a guy who plays it tough but plays clean.
  18. lol, the only thing ray bourque ever hit was the bottle. great dman offensively but certainly not intimidating. Agree that the only thing wrong with the chara hit was where it happened. anywhere else on the ice and its a 2 minute interference penalty and a non issue
  19. we will see on saturday night. Im fairly certain the entire vancouver team would rather see the preds or the wild in the first round. careful what you wish for Buck
  20. the flames were knocking on the playoff door when you posted this smitty. since then they have kicked that door down and are looking like a seriuos headache for whomever they draw in the first round(man I hope its the Nucks). dont want to get too carried away, but its starting to feel a little like 2004.
  21. the flames have been the best team in the league since xmas and the highest scoring team in the entire league since January 1st. Be very afraid canucks fans. Your team has been getting soft and are ripe for a first round upset.
  22. ron legendario or santiago de cuba are excellent cuban rums. flor de cana 18 year old is another favorite. Vizcaya #21 and Diplomatico reserve (venezuelean) are also exceptional sipping rums. Brugal is average (OK for a cheaper, lower quality bottle of rum) and is only marginally better than Bacardi.
  23. lol, ironic how a post from a guy refuting your argument proves your point to a tee. As soon as i saw "70+ fish in 2 hours" I too was thinking a shovel was needed to tell this story
