  1. BigFoamy at first i didn't see your decimal point with my old eyes and I thought the biblical plague was upon us ..... the locusts swarm the bow .... five inch stones ... my gawd imagine chucking a dry to imitate that LOL!!!
  2. i find the Goldeyes do get better the closer you get to summer and are awesome all summer and into the fall .... however i have caught them rarely as early as may long weekend in the red deer system. here is a vid of some summer goldeye i made a couple years ago Cheers
  3. Cool video on how wolves change rivers.... thoughts ??
  4. ok ..... so no one has done any saltwater flyfishing except for bones in the flats ... nothing in the reef then??
  5. Anybody done any fly fishing in the reefs of Mexico, Cuba or any of the Caribbean Islands? I'm not talking about chasing bones in the flats but from a boat in the shallow reef. Deano and I were down in Cuba last year and we wanted to do some fishing but not deep sea. We talked to some locals who told of us of a guide who takes people out on the shallow reef for a few hours of fishing at a good price. We did not bring any gear down with us so we asked if everything was supplied, they said yes everything is included, we then asked if they had fly fishing rods and they said si si rods included. I repeated do they have fly fishing rods you know long rods with different reels and different line and I made a casting motion. He responds oh si si many types of rods all types yes. so anyway we booked a trip for the day. We had a van come pick us up and take us to the pier the next day where we met this captain as well as 2 couples that were also going on the trip with us and guess what - there were many types of rods on the boat red ones, blue ones, yellow ones but no fly rods LOL!! Cuba is like Mexico I guess you can't leave anything to chance you gotta make sure you know exactly what your getting before yo dish over the cash. I was expecting it would just be us on a smaller boat with a personal guide/captain doing some flyfishing. My friend from mexico has a saying TMD Typical Mexican Deal well I guess this was TCD. I'm not a guy who whines about things when on vacation I know things are different in some of these countries so I just go with the flow and enjoy the experience. Besides our guide Orlando was a good guy and although I don't speak fluent Spanish after I told him what we were sold and that we would still go anyway he made a phone call to the guy we booked with and it sounded like a good reaming out but who knows ... he could have just been screaming at the guy saying thanks for sending me this sucker good job!!! LOL!! Any way we were off to go do some reef fishing with spinning gear ... but guess what no lures we were going to be using cut up shrimp ... yay we were off to do some good old fashioned bait dunking. The trip turned out pretty fun for not flyfishing check the video below to see what took place. My question to you folks is have you done any fly fishing from a boat in the shallow reef because I think it would be fun catching all these crazy different fish on every cast on a flyrod. if anyone has can you tell me where and who you went with thanks Diddy enjoy the video
  6. The southern Alberta reservoirs can give up some huge pike in October. I landed at least 1 monster Pike 3 straight years on my annual late October trip to my favorite fall reservoir. See 2 of them in the photos below. The guys I went on this annual trip with are spin fishermen so I join them in chucking spoons and crankbaits to the big fall waterwolves. I have not tried the fly rod on the reservoirs yet ... but I'm sure it would be a lot of fun.
  7. Thanks fishinglivin ..... who's yer Daddy LOL!!! cheers dIddy
  8. Nice !! cool piece of radio .... you and Deb sounded good congrats !!! sounds like you weren't too far from here
  9. you got it Hawgstoppah LOL first cast of the year .... not that my casting ever wins any awards anyway but that was for sure some rust there ... LOL!!! Did you have a laugh right after that cast when I was fighting that brown with my line wrapped around the base of my rod ...LMAO!!!
  10. I agree with your thought here Flyfisher but I think the reason the traditional stimmie I had floats lower is because of the fact that it is a much more bare bones fly not that bushy and less hackle where as the rubber leg version I have although probably heavier it is much more bushy and bulky with a thick amount of hackle thus the high floatation ... but now that you have me thinking about it maybe it just looks like its floating higher because its bigger bushier and easier to see ... I will have to examine this next time out ... either way they both work ... bless the stimmie one of the best patterns out there.
  11. Just looking for opinions on this ... Do you like using a stimulator with rubber legs or with out? Do you notice a difference with one or the other being more successful? I kind of noticed that when I am fishing for cutthroats with stimmies they prefer when they have rubber legs but when I am fishing for browns I noticed that the traditional no leg stimmies work better. Has anyone else noticed this? and if so why do you think it might be? I was thinking it might have to do with how it floats I notice the rubber legged stimmies that I get ride quite high on the water and the traditional ones ride quite a bit lower ... maybe cuts like flies that ride high and browns the opposite I don't know what do you guys think? on my last outing I did a lot better than my partner and I was using a traditional he was using a rubber leg version that works awesome on throats here are a couple photos and a vid of the fish from that day. so let me know your thoughts on my questions thanks Diddy.
  12. Well I am truly embarrassed about this but I got out on the water for the FIRST time this season on the day before the first snowfall .... that is crazy. Had a weird summer with some world traveling, a knee injury and then I got busy with some other hobbies and never got out on the streams until this past weekend ... But when I did get out with Deano & Brother Terry the Brown Trout & Brookies were still there and they were cooperating. So I took a little footage and did a little editing and came up with this years first episode of The New Wave Angler ... "The Triple Whammy" So here it is .. click the link and let me know what you think ... ENJOY!!! Cheers!! Diddy.
  13. nope not the Grifiths .... I was talking about these
  14. Hmm 80% of the cutts I've landed in the last 3 years have been on one certain dry fly that I have not seen mentioned yet maybe I have discovered a secret weapon that's all my own ..... yeah right !!! But now I am afraid to mention it just in case LOL!! It is a popular fly ... I'm wondering why it's not on any ones list.
  15. sounds to me like MKM the OP had a great day on the pound and wants to scare the rest of us away for the summer and keep all those nice browns to himself .... I kid I kid ..... seriously a scary story though thanks for the heads up ... it reminded me of a scary encounter I had after dark one night when leaving the bow at Mkinnon flats. I had stayed out really late as the bows were rising to the adams in the moonlight ... when I finally got back to the lot there was a guy in a pick up hanging out came over started talking he seemed a little off ... my spidy senses were tingling but I chatted he started giving me all these weird details about his past and jobs and financial stuff a lot like the OPs encounter I still wasn't to worried until I saw him holding what looked like an electrical cord or black strap or something and it seemed like he was trying to keep it outta my view so I got a little nervous and wanted to get outta there so I told him I would show him some photos of my catch I through my rod in the back still at full length jumped in vest and net still on started my car and pulled out my camera and pretended the batteries were dead and quickly said wow its later than I thought wifes gonna be pissed have a good night ... he did not say goodbye just stood there with a weird smile ... creepy I booted it up out of the valley and drove all the way to 22x before I got out and took off my vest and folded my rod .... could have been harmless but the weird stories and the cord were enough to creep me out ... I often wondered if I escaped some serious incedent that night .... thanks for posting MKM
  16. Just saw this beautiful video and article about our lovely home ... put out by Travel Alberta ... Fly Fishing plays a pretty big role in the video ... pretty cool ... what do you guys think?? http://www.buzzfeed.com/travelalberta/sites-in-alberta-that-will-make-you-feel-alive?sub=3146704_2746495
  17. Well I don't know about "Rock N Roll" but how about "New Wave" This vid always gets my daughter and her cousins excited especially when Deano gets 2 cutthroats on at the same time.
  18. thanks DougC your right it was the Lanark angler what happened to him his vids are not on youtube anymore do you know?
  19. A few years back before I was making my flyfishing vids ... I had seen a couple vids on youtube by this guy who was flyfishing on a few different central and southern alberta streams but I can't remember his name or youtube channel .... but it was The "something" Angler ... the missing word was kind of a strange word that I didn't know what it meant .... does anyone remember the name?? it wasn't Humble Jay it was some other guy ... I'm not 100% sure but the name may have started with a C or maybe an F ... his vids were shot on the fallentimber, dogpound, and highwood .... The Con-something angler maybe .... I can't remember and it's bothering me ... please help. Diddy.
