  1. additional questions: my problem with fishing a midge nymph is that I can't seem to get a fish to eat one. Any tips? Also, how long do you hold up at a hole this time of year? I usually will probably send 15- 20 mins at a spot chang my fly 2-3 times then move on unless I know there's a beast.
  2. It's funny ( not really) the few pictures you can find on Instagram of people poaching. I tend to leave #douchebag in the comments.
  3. Best tips I learned: -Learn to read the water (Google can show you that) -Change your flies( I usually change my flies if I haven't got a hook up after 20 mins of fishing a solid spot. (I usually flip some rocks over and see if I can match anything in my fly box) - smaller flies tend to land me more fishing this time of year. -Change up your nymphing style (czech nymphing, can be deadly and you won't miss subtle takes) -Don't leave fish to find fish. ( unless you've landed them)
  4. Pick up the fly rod as a teenager but didn't have the patience. 4 years ago living in a 1 bedroom apartment with no A/C, the summer heat wave was so bad that I bought a fly rod from wal-mart and waded in the water just to cool off. It was relaxing, peacefully and it was a nice way to get away from all the distraction of life. Then one night I hooked in a rainbow with some serious weight. My heart felt like it was beating out of my chest and got a slight adrenaline rush. I battled with this rainbow forever (probably 4-5minutes). It ended with a broken wal-mart rod and a forearm that was sore for days but was a great re-introduction to the sport. Been fishing the bow at least once a week ever since. (unless it below zero) Currently work in Marketing for a heavy oil company.
  5. After getting leapfrogged, I would have probably gone and talked to the guy and see what his plans were. Hopefully afterward the competition of racing to the next hole would end.
  6. The people that I have run into have usually been foreign or frence. I usually mention to them what they are doing is not allowed and tell them about the fines they can receive. Have not received a facepunch..yet. That said if it was some redneck I would probably snap a few photos then try to track down their vehicle for details: Details required "Date, time and location of offense License plate number of vehicle Vehicle description, including any identifying features, dents, stickers, etc. Description of person(s) involved Description of evidence at the scene, or evidence of the crime that the violators took with them Details of the violation Call 1-800-642-3800." If I couldn't call that day I would call another time and ask where I could submit the photos. http://www.reportapoacher.com/ I wish there was a reward system in place. Ex. $500 for report a poacher that gets convicted.
  7. I like the following: Rod and Line from Blue Halo: http://www.bluehalostore.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BFB503%2DCP Reel: http://www.allenflyfishing.com/ats-reel-series/ Great setup for under $400
  8. Also, as a beginner "don't be that guy" http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/flytalk/2012/09/don%E2%80%99t-be-guy-guide-good-fly-fishing-etiquette
  9. Fish the Sheep @ the bridge at Indian Oils Day-use Site to the headwaters. Most guys don't like walking that far but its well worth it Note: from bridge at Indian Oils Day-use site downstream to Gorge Creek and tributaries (except Gorge Creek) - CLOSED Also Gorge Creek is pretty good but you need to hike roughly 3kms to find a good Bull trout hole. I think its well worth it. Sandy McNabb gets pressured to hard, so don't waste your time there. Look forward to seeing some great Bull trout pics.
  10. I was more interested in the $3,000 fly rod! that I found on the same sight. http://www.arcticsilvershop.com/#!titanium-rods/co9a
  11. It will be interesting to see how this is handled. As long as egos don't get in the way, thing could workout. The Tsilhqot’in could implement their own hunting/fishing programs and work with the outfitters in the area. This could create a revenue stream for the tribe as well as allowing them to establish their own rules and regulations on hunting and fishing. It's unfortunate about those that bought land down there. Not sure how that gets resolved.
  12. All those Streams suck expect for BeaverDam Creek! monster brown after Monster Brown.
  13. I took up what I call the bow river meditation, Depth Breath inhale, Cast, mend, exhale. Also the big lesson I learned is that sizing down your fly makes a big difference.size 16-18 size nymph instead of size 12 or bigger. use a Worm/split shot for weight and if you are losing a fly or two a night you're not fishing deep enough.
  14. Great spot definitely going to have to check it out!!

  16. If I have matched the hatch and getting refused, I usually go smaller and for the most part it works out.
  17. I've found a few little guys but definitely better places to go
  18. Thanks for the responses
  19. I walked the bow last night since I forgot got the house keys and my girlfriend was at a dinner. I found a nice pool with some decent sized fished. Unfortunately they were sucker fish. Which in my mind are the most boring fish to catch. There was about 6 of these suckers and maybe it's just me but I haven't seen so many sucker fish on the bow in my life. Questions: - Has anyone else been catching more suckers as of late? -Do you think that the suckers are going to have an impact on the trout population? From what I hear suckers love to eat other fish eggs and after the floods the last thing the trout population needs is a bunch of mother suckers eating the eggs. Cheers, JT
  20. Thanks guys for the responses
  21. Last night was probably the most frustrating fishing experience to date. I found a great spot the fish started jumping, possibly chasing an emerger. spent the night throwing every fly I had, but got nothing. Details: Date: May 15h, 2013 just before sunset Temp: 20 degrees light rain off and on River: deep pool, with muddy bottom, very slow current, and very low visiability No bugs on the surface or in the air, White fur like substance was floating in the water and when nymphing my line and nymph would be covered in the stuff after 5 casts Started with a dry dropper elk hair caddies size 14 with a small dark nypmh size 18 switch the nymph to a mayfly emerger. ( was casting 45 degrees upsteam 3 feet in front of the last rise/jump.) then went with a leech with a prince then a worm then some dark coloured streamers but nothing So I guess I have a few questions: -If the trout are jumping/splashing are they chasing emergers? If so, what fly on the Bow river emergers from a muddy bottom and does it fast? ( spent a good time looking to see anything floating by but the visability wasn't very good) - Do Anglers get snunked on rising/jumping fish? mabye I'm new but I'v never been snunked with rising fish. Looking forward to responses.
