  1. Rob im very sorry to hear your loss. I also want you to know i appreciate your opinion, I will try to adress some of the concerns you have brought up. In terms of big hooks the biggest I usually go with this is a size six worm, my biggest cz nymph hook being size 8. I personally have never had much trouble with hooking in the eye ect.. On the river bed note I understand what your getting at but, i have a hard time believing that it disruptes the sedment, vegetation, ect because in the grand sceme of things a rig that of three nymphs that probally doesn't weight much more then 4-5 grams in total will not distrupt much. Plus if you have corectly tied your czech nymph it shouldn't be extremly heavy just hydrodynamic. Although I do have a few rows in my box of my "Bombs" to get down in the current. If fished correctly your nymphs should be suspended in the water collum, about a foot above the bottom in the fishes feeding lane. In terms of catching lots of fish, taking them from their lies ect I agree with you one-hundred-percent, if you have a clear pool where you can see every fish it is quiet easy to systimatically pick off each fish which is disruptive of course, but how much more then if fishing an indicator, spooking those other fish out of their feeding lane, ect. You bring up some good point but I still believe that it is no worse then fishing a BAW infact the way I fish them a lot better then a size 3 BAW. I guess thanks for bringing up these points but i believe if done properly which i hope to show in this clinic how to do, CN SN and PN have no more damage then indie nymphing. I appreciate your opinion and understand this isn't personally against me. Although after having seen two world championships where the river bed and fish were no worse for wear just a little wiser after being fished over five three hour sessions by the best youth fly fishermen in the world. I don't personally believe it causes alot of damage, the rivers around state college are fishing just aswell this year as last year. Anyways this is just what I have observed take it or leave it I guess. Maybe this dicussion will intrigue a few people to get interested in my clinic hahah John
  2. Some discussion would be great, on the subject of negative impact? How dozech nymphing and its sister nymphing techniques have a negative effect on fisheries? Why would you limit yourself to an indicator in January on Stauffer where the brown trout get spookier, defiantly not as spookier as fario browns which Spanish nymphing was developed for but they can be tricky none the less. Even in the summer when I’m fishing a stream that has been pounded or already fished that day I’ll quit often switch over to this style of nymphing. If you’re worried about fish getting foul hooked, well i plan to explain the proper separation length on your dropper in the clinics bit on rigging up a leader. If i sound to defensive speak up I’m just trying to cover the areas on this that you might find negative. I mean your catch rates go way up when these methods are used in their proper environment and if you are using barbless hooks like you are supposed to in all of Alberta you really shouldn’t be doing much damage. If you are referring to the Czech Republic’s fishery and why their water are mostly stocked, we’ll the Czech Republic is a pretty big meat fishery and the rivers like the Vltava get pounded and the locals don’t throw back to many fish. I’m open to opinions so speak up on how this technique is more damaging than any other??
  3. I’m considering offering a introductory level European Nymphing clinic. I would teach leader construction, balancing different rigs with flies no split shot, tying demonstration, theory and history of these techniques and of course teaching the basics of Czech, Polish, and Spanish nymphing. These are all tactics which have proven deadly for me in previous competitions and fishing our western trout streams each has its own place and time which I would expand upon during the course. The course would run for a full day, most likely on the crowsnest river in September and/or October, depending on the interest I would be willing to accommodate a couple of Sundays in the pass for this course. I have used these techniques extensively in Alberta and around the world with great success and would like to pass it on. I have worked passionately on refining these skills and would like to offer up my knowledge at a basic level for Alberta’s fishing community. I would be charging 150 dollars per person, in groups of five per clinic. So if anyone is interested speek up and i'll start putting this plan into action. Here is a link to my report from the 2007 youth world fly fishing championships giving you an idea how these techniques have worked out for me. http://www.flyfishingcanada.net/fly-fishing-canada-youth.php John Bransfield Member of 2006, 2007, and 2008 Canadian Youth National Fly Fishing Team

  5. Congrats on your first bullie flygirl! good on you beedhead for getting your daughter into the sport its great to see more young people on the water! theres nothing wrong with how you held those fish people have way to much time on their hands these days to critisize..... Great looking fish!!
  6. Gonne have to ditto browstone, been to Gagetown during high season for bugs, and drove the inland highway from goosebay to churchill falls, and have never ever seen bugs like on that road. Recomende a perfectly sealed bug jacket plus heavy deet, or those black flies will carry you away if your not carefull.
  7. hahah thanks I only wish I could have done better then what i did, but any ways next year. I was pretty lucky to get involved, it has taken me lots of places and made me a much better angler if i do say so myself. Also the friendships that you come out with is awsome, im going to Derbyshire next week to fish grayling and trout with my coach from 2006. Lots of fun, if you get the chance sometime compete at one of the nationals, its a great way to improve your angling and a good way to get yourself involved in competitions. Competition fishing for me at least has been quite the bug, always trying to better yourself, finding new techniques, new flies its alot of fun. I know this years nationals is a ways away but if any of you get the chance to go to one you really should its alot of fun and you would be amazed at the learning curve.
  8. In europe countries like, spain and france fish for extremly finiky wild trout, which is turns means they have to adapt their techniques. Longer lighter leaders, smaller flies ect. Lots of practice helps aswell, as they have multiple qualifying competitions, while here in Canada we currently select our team by resumers and refferences. This year though we'll be fishing a youth team at Canadian Nationals in Tremblant, where there will be a training camp prior to the competition to select a team for 2009's championships. As the championships whent back to portugal we wont be putting out team into the YWFFC this year. France pretty much dominates the championships though, the Letexier brother usual place top five at their Senior nationals. Which says alot about those two. Although Canada is improving, this year we had two anglers in the top half, both of us chasing the chance of a medal for a little while. The seniors did fantastic down in NZ so i have high hopes for Canada in the next couple of years.
  9. Team mate mikey lennox with a nice brown and myself on upper spring creek in the evening, was some amazing fishing, can wait to go back again sometime. Most of the fish we caught on the streams were browns and bows, and a few wild brookies. If you ever get a chance to go i highly recomend it amazing fishing on those creeks. Sorry theres not more pictures of fish, but as we were practicing or competiting trying to catchs as many fish as possible in three hours, every seconde counts.
  10. Up stream from humphreys hole on Fishing Creek

  14. Sick ties, cohos dont usually come till later on. Chinooks are the first in, hence the name "springs" or "spring salmon"
  15. The sea trout and atlantic fishing is friggin amazing on the cains........
  16. i use a rusty old metal tape measure, good call on posting this thread too true that people overestamate their fish sizes. People claiming to have lost 25" fish, hoggwash unless you have the picture to prove it in my books. As the day wears on the size of the lost fish allways seems to grow haha.
  17. No worries brownstone. I like to support them anyways because they have been good to me. Considering most places charge 5 bucks for 10. Lama is a great company, just thought id pass it along...
  18. Ordered 50 copper, 50 black, and 20 hotspot beadheads from the canadian lama compan a couple weeks ago. Got them in the other day and there great! There the cheapest tungsten bead heads around, 10 bucks for 50 of them is a helluva deal.
  19. I have never lived in vancouver or been there during a snow storm, but I have heard that the city shuts down. Everyone is scared to go out on the roads, and stays home is what I hear.
  20. Common is the photoshop really necessary? Dustin is a good guy, fished with him overseas for two weeks. He is a great guy had a lot of laughs with him. Met his uncle on the bow one day too a nice fella. Maybe posting that picture wasnt the greatest idea but he did the right thing and took it down. Common man give dustin a break
