  1. Catch and release makes the fisherman feel like he is doing something good. its not good for the fish. But that is the way it is and I'm not about to spoil a good thing!
  2. Fred Nitsche was a fly fisher, he fished because he enjoyed it, even though he was one one the greatest philosophers ever, he still fished because it was human instinct to satisfy oneself at the expense of the lower intellect animals.
  3. again, it comes down to what is socially acceptable in certain circles. Like this site. I am going ice fishing at Travers res. this weekend, and I hope to bonk a big pike for supper.
  4. there is no such thing as sport hunting, the only way to sport hunt is with traquilizer darts, this way you can take a picture, and revive the critter. and send him/her on its way.
  5. "when u squash one on the river rocks"?????????????????????? I hope you are not talking about pooping in the river!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Freudian condition known as Postaridiculosis
  7. Wasn't that bad Flyfishy, saw some great flies.
  8. Make sure you keep a mailing address in BC so you don't have to pay 20 bucks a day to fish BC's classified waters like us Albertans do! Bad enough we have to pay 70 bucks for a non resident year licence. Actually I don't mind paying the 70 bucks to fish the gorgeous lakes out there, catching just one monster rainbow or brooktrout at Whitetail lake is worth it. Watching your flyline scream off your reel for 30 seconds almost makes your heart stop beating!
  9. You are right, I fish up at Seebee/exshaw so much that I entered the wrong fly pattern, lots of green drakes in the bow valley, but very scarce below Ghost. They can be a real dryfly blast if you hit them at the right time at Chief Hector Lake or Seebee resivoir.
  10. I have the Fish Cat Cougar, the reason you should look at this style of boat is because it has smaller double pontoons on both sides. This makes the boat lay alot flatter on the water with much less wind resistance. Also works great on lakes.
  11. Silver Doctor is right, there are lots of trout in the upper river, but you have to put the time in to find the fish. The hatches up here don't coincide with the lower bow, but the stone fly and green drake hatches are really good for a short period. The river downstream of bowness park to the train bridge can produce well. The rainbows are smaller but they are sure sporty. light weight rods for the upper river are a must. If u want white fish then the Bow River Killer is your fly, it is a size 14-16 dryfly hook, body, orange egg yarn tightly wrapped smooth, then fully wrapped with short to medium brown hackle. The old local Dutchmen spincasters , developed this fly, (or some how have taken credit for it) and fish it with amazing success. They bottom bouce it with a part of a coat hanger, so they don't get snagged on the rocks. This of course is the dilema for fly fishermen, so u have to figure out how to get your fly near the bottom on as much of a natural float as possible. The closest way that i have found is to put a splitshot at the end of your tippet and then tie your fly about 10 inches up, fish this way with a bobber type rig up, and make sure you have at least a 12 foot leader because the water can be deep and fast in certain stretches. cheers, good hunting
  12. Then he scares all the fish away in his lamboghini jet boat!
  13. Bownesian all my life, great whitefish fishing but very hit and miss for big trout. You will have success in the fall for the occaisional brown trout, but because of all the dingy day trippers, and all the dog ball chuckers, you are better off driving down deerfoot trail to Fish Creek.
  14. I have a plumbing company in Calgary, I am not a non profit organisation, but I am not about to retire off every service call I make. If u want to keep your customers, you want them to know how to get their best bang for their buck! Tip of the week (plumbing) if your sewer backs up in the basement, call 311, the city of calgary will come auger your drain for free! sometimes, if they are busy, it may take a couple of hours before they arrive. if u have to be an a-hole to get rich then i am happy to have my little house in Bowness and go fly fishing, collect my pension and have people respect me. good for u for posting about this anal pimple
  15. Does anybody know why they dug those 2 huge 200 foot deep lakes between Seebee Resivoir and Bow Valley campground? I'm thinking for water storage, but I am not sure. Could be a good fishery in the future, maybe.
  16. fixed my signature P.S. It wasn't 5 miles long it was 5 kilometers long. LOL You can blame Trudeau!
  17. A great float trip for everybody: EXSHAW TO SEEBEE DAM Damn what a great float trip. 1. Take your boat to Exshaw and drop it off. 2. Drive your vehicle and trailer to the boat launch at Seebe Dam 3. Call the taxi company in Canmore (arrange the taxi the nite before) 4. Float down the river to the resevoir (short trip but some good browns if u know what u r doing) 5. Troll around the resevoir and sight fish or just troll around with damsels and other pattterns. 6. Hope to hell that there is no wind.
  18. Don't take this internet stuff too seriously Flyfishy, you will give yourself a heart attack!
  19. Sorry don't fish Buggers, i'm a Muddler guy
  20. Thanks alot Bigtoad, now you've gone and spoiled everything! I was just about to enter my Haiku Cheddar Cheese Fly Emerger and my Haiku Gouda Prince Nymph>>>>> thanks alot!!!!!!!!!
  21. Nice looking flies, boy do I wish that I could have had all these fancy materials when I started tying flies 30 years ago! Tip: get yourself a little aquarium and test your flies in the tank, this will help u learn alot about how certain materials affect the shape and action of a fly under water. Tying flies with basic materials such as peacock, grouse and marabou will greatly improve your tying and understanding of shapes and sillouettes underwater.
  22. Hey Tungsten I have those Matzuo sickle hooks, bought them at Scottys up at Pine Lake. They are are the most amazing jigs that I have ever seen. The walleye fishermen up there swear by them. They have the most amazing translucent red eyes and the hook is super light and deadly sharp. Next pinball/poker night that u come over I will give u some to try.
