  1. Holla! XXL hoodie and T. and hells ya on the big jedi hoodz and all that shiznatch, cause i got a big dome.
  2. thanks for all the tips guys, especially the twin lakes. as much as i would like to get more of my family into fly fishing so i would have someone to fish with on a regular basis, the reality of it is if they cant catch fish, they lose interest pretty quick and spin fishing might just be the better choice for the youngsters. i will try and post to let you know how things went. steven.
  3. i prefer flowing. i am not a big fan of still water
  4. well it looks like i am getting roped into camping at the campground on crimson lake. while i am not exactly thrilled about the whole idea, i might as well make the best of it. heres where yall come in...can anyone mention a few decent spots to try fishing around there. i know the north sask river is super close but i have never been there and as i will most likely be surrounded by all sorts of family members i would like to actually give them a decent chance to catch a fish. any help on this would be great because as it stands right now, it does not look too promising. steven.
  5. laughing so hard i started chocking, had people come in from the other room to see if i was ok. buttering the floor, thats funny as hell !
  6. 1. Beaver Bank, NS - with my father. first place i ever caught a fish. 2. Labrador 3. New Zealand I would take my cousin or my wife to any of these places.
  7. The WIFE ! She wants to be a part of things so i showed her how to tie a wire worm and she wips them off like she works in a sweat shop. This is the way to get your flies made. Think i will move her on to something a little harder and hopefully next year i will have a whole box full of wife tied flies.
  8. I am sure that a lot of guys might groan if its still open and i am about to bring unwanted attention to it, but i cant get the links to the maps to open so i cant tell....having said that, is the crowsnest still open?
  9. No ones got the hip hop / rap going? a little busta rhymes, eminem, and all that shiznit?
  10. I have read a lot of guys use a dry/dropper combo, usually i have read about a hopper/dropper combo. i recently tried this on the weekend and found that the dry was constantly being pulled under by the current affecting the dropper. is this the norm for this type of fishing? also what length is the dropper as this might have been my problem, dropper too long? steven.
  11. Are you sure it doesnt have any thing to do with glutton for punishment type thing? I was unlucky enough to try out a pair of neos a couple of weeks ago and it was horrible. I walked back the km or so from the hole we were at and i almost walked back bare a**ed, i wanted to take of those damn things so bad. I am sure heat stroke was not far off. Steven.
  12. I have been salmon fishing in Nova Scotia when there are guys lined up like this for over a mile. Any time the water level was low the fish would be forced to hold in pools, guys would come out of the wood work to pound flies at them all day.
  13. Wow, there are some people who have WAY too much time on their hands.
  14. Rick, we are both really glad to hear that Ben is ok. Shows what a true fisherman he is, after he was swept down the river he comments that the two of you ruined the run. Although Jackie probably does not share the same sentiment. Steven.
  15. Thanks LynnF. I have never been to any other river except the bow as i am just gettin back into fishing after a long break. Hearing that most of the streams have a trail of some kind takes a lot of the guess work out of the equation.
  16. My cousin and I, along with our respective wives are heading south for a bit of camping this weekend and I need a bit of advice. The cousin and I have waders, but the wives do not. I was hoping to find a couple of streams to take the girls on that they would not require waders to have fun. I understand that most people who fly fish are not exactly the sharing kind when it comes to discussing places to fish ( a concept that in my opinion has missed the mark ) i am not asking for your secret hole, just a direction to head that might produce favorable scenery rather then heading to a stream listed in the alberta fishing guide only to find that its surrounded by cliffs and thick brush. While i understand that this might not be possible, any help would make their trip all that much better. Thanking you in advance, on behalf of the wives, Steven.
  17. I have a sage launch and i find i dont even notice the gap.
  18. I agree. I often find that i go in there looking to ask questions or discuss products with the staff only to find there is no staff available.
  19. I recently purchased the wife a rod kit from wholesale sports. its made by St. Croix. 9' 6wt, 4 piece rod. it came with rod, reel, line and backing. total cost was 164ish plus tax. it is not as nice as the sage i use ( entry level - sage launch 9' 5wt, 4 piece for $220 + reel, line and backing ) but i have fished with it and it was worth the money. I must say that i would like a better reel and line on it, but its great for a starter rod. You dont need all the fancy toys a lot of people have. a large net would be good for the bow, a cheap metal one will work as you dont need the expensive wooden ones. they both hold fish. i have seen tons of guys that dont use a vest at all. they just use a backpack to carry their stuff, but if you want a vest, you dont need the most expensive one either, they all hold stuff. I would however say get breathable waders as opposed to the rubber ones you can get for really cheap from various places. in rubber waders, you will discover a whole new meaning for sweating your ass off. I am however no where near an expert as i am just getting back into fly fishing after a several year absence. Most of the guys on the forum will give opinions, but its easy to spend other peoples money. also go into one of the fly shops in town ( fish tales for example ) and talk to the guys working there. they are all very helpful and will give your more personalized service. Steven.
  20. I was planning on taking the wife out that way this weekend as well. I think that avoiding k lakes in favor of fish that might be a bit eaiser to catch is a good idea. Any tips on the lakes mentioned above that may help us land a few? steven>
