  1. Well Ed the horse could talk. Beat that Flipper!
  2. Great video. I didn't realize J-Roc was a fisherman?
  3. Great list Sun. I am a cheep old basturd and I know this makes me greener by default than the vast majority.
  4. The anti icing agent the city is spraying the roads down with is Calcium Chloride. It freezes at -25c and attracts moisture and becomes slippery at -17c The weather report says we could go to -30 withing the next few days and the city has been spraying this stuff for the past 24 hours getting ready for the blizzard... Remember last year? Around this time they soaked the roads with this crap; it froze and acted as a bonding agent for all the snow that fell. I heard there is also urea in the mixture?
  5. I think you started this thread because you like typing the word "refugia"...
  6. When this van is a rockin' don't come a knockin'.....
  7. I wonder what the next Y2K, Global Warming, end of the world scenario will be?
  8. He will become more famous, get higer ratings for TV when he is back in the tournaments, and get bigger endorsements, once the dust settles. In the grand schem of what celebrity athletes have done and then been accepted back this is small potatoes. America loves to feed off of public failure, and then rally for a strong comeback...
  9. I can just see the cliquey club of global warming scientists who up until now controlled the puppet strings of mainstream media scratching thier heads strategizing what their next move will be, making sure to delete the cache after the emails are sent... Folks we have been grossly misled! The crime of the millenium.... And Polar bear populations are increasing, but you would never know that watching the news..
  10. I can only conclude that you are comparing dolphins to humans with a post like this? The first bit is really not worth comment.. In some African and Asian countries they eat monkey too. I believe a monkey is a primate? I could not imagine it, but if I lived in a grass hut, cooked my food over buffalo dung, did not own shoes, and eating anything was a day to day survival tactic I would probably look forward to killing and eating one? Same as Elephant. I saw a program where a hunter from the USA flew to Africa, killed an elephant and only took the tusks. The villiage got a large ammount of money for the "permit", built a school and all the villagers lined up for the meat. Seems like a win-win to me... My personal line is I will stick to North American domesticated animals, wild ungulates, and fish; but that is just me. All of our sustenance needs are met in North America, so it becomes easy to pick apart how other cultures go about it. Who are we to judge another culture based on our culture?
  11. Just an observation about the cities "anti icing agent". They may as well flood the roads with water. I was heading out to HWY 1 via Sarcee trail yesterday and I passed a truck spraying brown swill with a sign on the back saying what it was. 4 hours later I came back on the same route and the northbound lane that I was on earlier was polished ice that the rink keeper at the Saddledome would have been envoius of. Same result last year. 1st week of December they started spraying this *hit on the roads and they iced up immediately after. Last year the city claimed it was too cold for this *hit-mix to work and it froze- huh? what is wrong with good ole fashioned sand and rock chips? It has worked for the past 60 or so years.. Good thing I am one of those obnoxious basturds with a 4x4 and studded winter tires, so I probably passed you...
  12. Hey I am culturally sensitive of what I eat too; I could not imagine eating a horse or dolphin, I grew up watching flicka and flipper. Rick seemed to base his decision on what is table fare on how smart the dolphin is, and that he hand-fed one. They say pigs are smarter than dogs yet we raise hogs for slaughter; so it was a serious question. If dolphins are not being harvested in a sustainable manor, and there welfare is not put to the forefront on how they are killed then there should be definate reform. But to judge what another culture chooses to eat based solely on it's IQ does not hold water. I personally would eat a Dolphin steak before I would eat fillet of fido if that was all on the menu...
  13. So we should base what animals we kill and eat on how smart they are? At what point would you consider an animal dim-whitted enough to have for dinner? Just trying to get a baseline on why you think that killing dolphins is just flat wrong. In some asian countries they eat dogs and rats, in India they would never eat a cow and in Germany they eat horses. All protein, yet each culture has a different approach on how to sustain itself. As long as no long-term damage is resulting from over-harvest who are we to judge.
  14. You should get new zippers and try them. You may be surprised! May be a tough sell with the tofu crowd however..
  15. I was never a Michaëlle Jean fan until she ate some of that raw seal meat, way to go Michaëlle! Now they want seal meat on the menu on Parliment Hill! They are a pile of them in the sea so if people want to kill them for fur and meat then get at 'er! Ity is not like they are just killing them in an unsustainable way either, all on quota with a season. Very managed and sustainable.
  16. My two front teeth! Oh I almost forgot; Spandex hiking tights, some tofu wieners, a refillable coffe mug, and to be able to sit in a coffee shop in Banff sipping on an "uberlatte" and think that I am part of the solution and not the problem! Gay pokey thing here to show that what I just said was in jest, well kinda..--------->
  17. Glad to hear you are not against hunting. In some of your posts you refer to a Grizzly hunt as a "slaughter", and hunting not comparable to C&R fishing, then you mentioned "poaching" in the same posts, mentioned you were a vegan, so it got a bit confusing; it had the tone that you were against hunting. Thanks for clearing that up.
  18. I support it 100%. I even have a few tins of seal meat from Magdalen Island in the pantry.
  19. First off there is no Grizzly hunt in Alberta, has not been for a few years. Poaching is a totally seperate issue and confused why you keep dragging it into this discussion?? And yes you can compare fishing with hunting, even C&R. They are both a managed activity under the same agency; both activities are based on principals (science) of wildlife conservation and management. The point I want to get across is just because you choose to C&R fish does not make you morally superior to someone who legally hunts, yes even bears; You are both consumptive users of a renewable resource.
  20. The only whaling communities in Noth America are Native... Poaching a bull trout and legally killing a grizzly bear are two totally different things. One is a legal, managed hunt and the other, well is poaching.. BC and Alaska have very robust, stable, managed populations of Grizzlies. Saying you personally do not agree with hunting bears is one thing thing, but it is not even comparable to poaching. Peter some people cannot understand why you fish. Some of the same groups that want to ban hunting, not just bear hunting want a complete ban on sport fishing as well. You have alot more in common with someone that legally hunts bears than you give credit.
  21. The devil is in the details.. The "13th man" how ironic...
  22. Huh?? Pythagoras- below would be a good link for you to investigate and see why PETA gets "bashed" on this and other fishing/outdoor boards http://www.fishinghurts.com/
  23. You are very correct as nothing will change except we will be paying more for things, all based on the greenhouse gasses that each industry/ country pumps out, not pollution. Over the past 20 years the surge in wealth that North America has experienced is unprecedented. This is just a new way for governments and groups with socialist agendas to tap into the wealth and re-distribute it. Yes just another tax. They must have a reason and a scapegoat and this is it.. Buy a hybrid, recycle, pay more in tax and for fuel and I guess you are doing your part. All the BS that is being bantered around by bthe big international groups debating this won't make any difference, except a lighter wallet if you happen to live in an industrialized country. I guess I am just "dumbing down the discussion" again, eh Supreme Leader?
