For events like you are proposing here you need a license from SRD.
This is just a bad idea. Big difference if a few buddies go out together and "keep score", but advertising it on the interweb and half ass organizing something is considered a tournament. Seems like a road you would not want to go down.

Bottom line is you are trying to get a fish to eat a hook and sometimes they swallow it and will die if hooked in the gut or gill 100%. Part of the passtime. If you are not OK killing the odd fish then sit on the couch with gramma doing needlepoint.
This being said dont take the fish out of the water once you get it in; unhook and release. some of you on here light it up on people for bad photo's yet do the grip and grin when you catch a big one, this will increase the mortality rate moreso with bigger fish. We all know what an 18" Bow river rainbow looks like, so skip the pic. But if you insist a photo of a fish in the water looks better anyways. I don't need to see your ugly mug in a photo so keep'em in the water.
In some jurisdictions it is illegal to lift a fish out of the water if you intend to release it.

Good point, how do we justify getting in our vehicles in the first place. wouldn't the most environmentally sound solution be to brew a pot at home....and then not buying beans but growing our own so we don't waste gas going to the grocery store for beans....where do we draw the line?
The thing is Dax I feel I should not have to justify it to anyone. I do lots of things that would be deemed very environmentally friendly and some things that are not.
We should look at the inefficient organic grocery stores and compare the carbon footprint of the organic produce and goods they sell compared to the big chain stores like safeway that sell mostly mass produced food and produce.
The enviro weenies need their actions scrutinized and the outcome would surprise most.

I use CLR on my rods. It gets rid of the haze which is actually hard water stains, works like a dream. I am not sure I would use WD40 on my rod. However it works wonders when you spray it on a streamer.

You can do away with anything with the flawed logic this article shows. I will drive 10 minutes to 2 days just to catch fish and let them go (actually I will club a few if I drive to the coast). Totally pointless as you still have to buy protein at the grocery store, so it is a double whammy that spews unnecessary exhaust into the air as well. What about a sunday drive? driving to visit Grandma?
Where is the line that what you are doing with your vehicle is unnecessary?

you're mental HAHAHA the parks were not created for YOU, they were in fact created PRESICELY for the animals!!!!! the parks were designed as a refuge for animals that can't be taken away due to forestry and water management. The idea of parks is so that there is a place for wildelife to be wild. It's a place for us to go and appreciate what we have in this beautiful country. If we didn't have all these things rubbed in our noses from time to time, then I'm sure we would start taking it all for granted. I think we should be allowed to fish in the parks just as much as the next guy is allowed to snow shoe and his friend can climb the mountain. It's there and if we ignore it then we'll never know when something is wrong as a few other people have mentioned.
But I would feel the same as this as I do about all other systems in the province, CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY. I can't think of one good reason why anyone should go to the bow river and kill a fish, it's like a bird watcher spying a beatiful blue jay with his binoculars and then shooting it with a pellet gun just before it flies away WTF IS THE POINT!!!!!! We should be able to fish the rivers just as the mountain climbers climb the mountains. but you don't see the mountain climbers filling their backpacks and cars with chunks of rock from the mountain every day when they're done do you "HEY MAN CALL FISH AND FEATHERS, THAT GUY TOOK MORE THEN THE 40 LB MOUNTAIN LIMIT!!!!" it's retarded to think that people actually take fish out of the water, there is no point. Killing a deer is logical, as the populations would go way out of control if they weren't hunted. And a man kills a deer and he's got meat for a year and enough extra to give to his friends. A man goes to the store, spends 150 on a rod, 50 on lures and after couple hundred bucks catches a couple fish? why not just let the fish go, and spend 15 at the grocery store cause i see little rainbows and whitefish in there for 10-30 bucks each. There should be absolutely no harvesting of ANY fish in this province unless from specified stocked lakes.
I want to start some *hit here, when are all the fly fisherman going to band together and start doing something to protect what we love, we're being walked all over by those deuche bag bait fisherman. How many times do you go down to the river and see a plastic bag with 3 or 4 empty lure boxes sitting on the bank of the river? HOW ****ING HARD IS IT TO PICK UP THE EMPTY BOX!!!!! AND THE BAIT FISHERMAN WHO LEAVE THE STYROFOAM WORM CARTON ON THE BANK OF THE RIVER!!!!!!! IF I CATCH YOU I'M GONNA PUT MY BOOT UP YOUR ASS AND THEN SLASH YOUR TIRES.
When will classified waters come about, and when will there be a zero limit for ALL SPECIES (accept non-native invasive species....). I think we should go rally up somewhere and put down the fishing rods and pick up some protest signs, ZERO FISH LIMIT IN ALBERTA!
What you wish for is one baby step from eliminating fishing. Do some research then edit your post.

After reading your artical Mark, I really hope the Saints Lose.
As a coach and a long time player I find it discusting that a coach would teach his players to try and take out a another player. Don;t get me wrong we teach to hit hard and make a impact but I have never taught a player to go out and intentally hurt another player, possible endding his career.
But here is how I see it. Colts will win purly because of experince. Sure the Saints have a good Defence but they lack the experince needed to play in the big game. Once Manning played in his first Superbowel he gained alot of experince.
It should be an intresting game and I am hoping it will be exciting but hey it is the Superbowel and its been a long time since I was sitting on the edge of the chair watching the game.

You are correct. If there is any kind of prize, trophy, etc.. I think some would use a worm or marshmallow to ensure victory. It's not like fishermen to lie or anything.

I'd keep your current string of rods and skip the sage, although I am sure many of these experts on here will tell you the reason to blow $800 on a rod.. It is all percieved value on anything above the price of a TFO.
Edit: I casted a Orvis hydros and no doubt that this is the best rod for the dough, for my cast anyways. Save a few hundy from the sage and go hydros.
