  1. Besides as to which, in everything we do in life if you come across someone you don't know or weren't expecting you should smile and say hello, not ignore them. It's the courteous thing to do!

Definately agree, a "hello" is always in order, if you are passing by, or fishing as someone passes by.

  2. It's pretty interesting that I was talking to nobody in particular, just an observation, and you went out of your way to make it personal. Fine.

It's also fairly interesting that you talk about not wanting to expand your social network while you are on a social network. While it may not be about me, you seem intent on making it about you.

Again, people fish for other reasons than your reasons.

  3. Read it/bash it how you like.

    I already did.

Oh ya- appropriate behavior where I am from is not judging people because they do not strike up a conversation when they are out fishing by themselves. I am fishing, not trying to expand my social network- exactly why I fish!

It is not all about you rickr

  4. When I am walking between spots and run into someone fishing, you can tell right away what type of person they are, the one I want to be around and the one I don't. The one I don't doesn't turn around and does everything he can to avoid making eye contact (and I think it is hysterical when I see these guys in popular water). They are in their spot and expect you to move away. So I do, what is the point of making them mad (and then them talking about it on an internet site). The others turn around, say hello, you say hello, converse on how it's going and usually have a conversation about which way each of you are heading. Usually the person will say something along the lines of "fish here anywhere." I usually don't, or if I do I'll fish behind him. Those are the people I'd rather be around. They often become fishing buddies. The others? Not so much. Let them have their own little world.

And this may stir up some feathers, but I believe that the person who "closes up" is displaying just as bad etiquette as the guy who just drops in on me without asking.

Good job judging a person because they are intent on fishing and not starting a conversation when you walk past, with someone they likely do not even see..

I don't want to be around someone who comes up behind me and does not say "hello" while I am fishing, especially if I do not notice them until they are past me. They are usually the guys who are talking about bad "etiquette" and such on internet sites. (sounds crazy talk, eh?)

It definately goes both ways. Why put the responsibility of the ice breaker on the shoulders of the guy not facing you concentrating on the water?

Oh- and for the record I always say "hello" when I notice a person walking by, or if I am actually fishing. If I am fishing by myself it is because I choose to, I don't go to the river for some solitude looking for "fishing buddies" or a streamside conversation.

  5. A proud socialist.

    This sums it up ^^^

Are you joining the "human chain" in attempt to block her from speaking in Calgary?

Oh and please do not confuse my defending her right to speak with being a supporter. Seeems the "socialists" have a comprehension problem when it comes to this little difference.

  6. hide behind the right to free speech.

    Regards Mike

How do you hide behind a right? Exercising it maybe, but definately not hiding.

This broad is a definate loon, but her views are somewhat of a balance to all the leftie political correctness BS that is has entrenched itself in our society, especially media.

So many people and groups are open to other opinions as long as they are consistent with their own. Because of this alone I welcome her to Canada!

  7. Some of you need to sit back and look at the bigger picture.

Calling the Dubya speaking tour a "dark day" when it is in your city is a little over the top.

Pretty simple if you don't want to see or listen to Dubya, Palin, or Coulter then do not go to the speaking engagement, or don't watch Fox!

Typical Liberal BS is to try to ban or filter a view they do not agree with.

  8. Balderdash! What was last weeks hijack with the whole "google" thing?! Either way your always chiming in with some cheeky/snarky comment... Oh I forgot.. You can't take it, only dish it (we've established that already).

And for the record, you never did explain how I misspelled "Sheesh"

    P

You have a comprehension problem. The "let me google that for you" was a joke, hence other people now use that link. I had to explain it then, and now here again, both times to you! Did your mother drop you on your head as a child?

  9. Come on birchy, that's all a bunch of folly seeing that it's from some useless internet site!! Couldn't you have posted something with some "real world" value!! Sheesh!!

I like your use of "sheesh", but you spelled it wrong.

Don't be such an uberschwanz, I asked the question and some posted answers, things I was not aware of. Now run along dipSheisse.

Thanks to those who explained it.

  10. facepalm.gif

Forget about the emoticons and explain it then...

Folks often comment on how their rod "balances" yet the last time I cast a fly rod all the line was not in the reel. I do not hold it by one finger at the front of the cork where this balance point is supposed to be either.

  11. 3wt Saltwater reel. Now that is some funny stuff there!

I also have to comment on the whole rod/reel balance. How do you figure this out? with 1/2 the line out? How do you know when purchasing a reel? Never have understood this comment?

So many things that get discussed have zero real world relevance. Rod/reel balance and disc drags on 3wt's come to mind.
