  1. I've never been a teacher. I've taught before, but to peers, not really to students. I have several friends who are. I think they are drastically underpaid. But the fact they are underpaid doesn't mean there is anything wrong with someone in a field job being well paid. The goal should be to raise the pay of the teacher, regardless of what someone in another occupation is making.

Problem is the union. When you become a teacher you know that you will be a member of a union going into it, and they cater to the lowest common denominator, hence the pay schedule.

Sadly when I think back to my school years I have only 2 teachers that really made a difference in my life.

I agree that some teachers should make more. I also have memories of some teachers that were more suited to minimum wage, or a different career path at the least. Looking back I dismiss this to the union environment they worked within.

  2. BTW - you can focus on exec pay if you want, but the really outrageous costs in the oil patch are for folks in the field - many have no education beyond high school and get paid 3-4 times as much as a high school teacher with a Master's degree.

    And your point is?

The young guys that head up north work their asses off, no free lunch working in the field.

Funny you don't mention the christmas holidays, summers off, and nice pension that the High School teacher with the Masters degree gets with your comparison.

Oh and the publicly funded education that said High school teacher used to get his Masters Degree.

Simple supply demand equation at work for how much oil and gass field staff recieve as renumeration.

  3. Ahhh ever seen how a bear gets tagged and collared.......

PS I hunt but I don't see value or justifiable purpose in hunting grizzlies, that said I also don't see much of difference between our activity and theirs in terms of potential impact - ultimately those more cpable than me should be deciding how to best manage such populations (IMHO)

    Well said!

Also, you bet there is a measureable mortality rate from tagging and collaring bears, something the scientific community studying bears does not like to talk about. Especially when there is DNA collection methods that have 0% mortality and are more accurate to establish baseline population data. Wonder why they discount these methods? Feelings getting in the way of solid factual data?

  4. Given the background scenery is Lake Louise I am surprised Trains, Trucks and Autos are not among the weapon choices. (or at least bags of grain)

(Should also be able to throw Park Planners and Zip Lines too, for PGK's benefit) insert pokey thing....

PS - Banff is getting a Timmies (I believe at the brewster depot I hear)

Do any of the gift shops in the park sell grizzly fur slippers?, what a waste if they don`t. They could use the fur from the bears that the trains run over eating spilled grain along the tracks in the park. Not to mention the bear road kill in the park. I guess the road bear harvest in the park is justifiable as without it all the hotels, gift shops and restaurants would go broke without it.

  5. I know it is hypocritical of me, given my harassment of fish, but I can't get my head around the concept of hunting animals as trophies rather than for food. Terry

You are a hypocrite. The same groups that want to stop bear hunting want to stop all hunting and fishing is not far behind. The cuddly bears just gets the emotional swing votes for these groups..

Anglers should be very cautious with what they wish for and who they side with.

Would it be OK to live trap and tranquilize a bear, screw with him for a bit, hold his head under the water for a minute or two as you pose for a few hero shots then hope he recovers from his anesthesia and water dunking then send him on his way?

Your opinion proves that people choose to live by their own justifiable double standard because of their emotional response, not facts.

I also would never want to kill a Grizzly, but if the data is there to support a limited hunt who am I to say it is wrong just because of my feelings? I kill fish and also let èm go, eat meat, wear leather, drive a car, etc, etc, etc.. I feel this is all OK, again feelings. Fact would prove otherwise.

  6. Well all this pisses me off, I've been sittin' on that link for 4 months waiting for one of the Cliquey Six to ask a dumb question...

Your problem is you have been waiting for them to ask a question. They rarely ask questions however always on the spot with the answer.

Only took me 30 yrs or so after high school to FINALLY get in a clique. And what did I pick? A Fly fishing website clique. Oh, the power!

Who said you are in the clique? Talk about an assumption..

  7. may as well not get a fishing license either. who gets checked anyways?

Our government relies on guys like you to just `roll over`when they introduce bogus laws like the boating license. I bet you figure all new laws must be good, right?

Last time I checked driving a jet ski or house boat drunk in the Shuswap was illegal, even before the boaters license. Gotta love the governent to impose new, redundant, overlapping rules when enforcement of existing laws has always been the problem.

If you think that the boaters license will even reduce the problem of drunkard boaters at the busy lakes then I guess you will deem it as a success. Keep your head firmly planted in the sand, as the Government will do what is in your best interest!

  8. 1st misspelling hypocrisy and now "Though" ("Thought")!

You're not at the top of your game tonight, are you?!

Must be all those ethical dilemmas confusing your brain, eh!!

    LoL

    P

Who needs spell checker when we've got you pro's as proof readers.

  9. I like my version of the word "expert" = a person who knows 1% more then you do, and wants to tell you!

I question the 1% more part..

    Other than that; spot on!

  10. I found your link...well...kinda funny :angel:smail:

I was hoping someone on the forum had actually bought a domain name...what it cost...is their a yearly charge...was their any unforeseen problems.

Still...it is interesting how you set the link up...way more google savy than me.

    Keep up the fun :ridemcowboy:

Glad to see someone has a sense of humor, kinda.

  11. I figured you for a pretty "stand up" and ethical guy!! Pffft! Yeah right!

Why, because I am going to snub the law and take my toon out with an electric motor?

    Call the cops!

Don't you see the hypocrisy in that I can rent a house boat without a license? Would that be ethical in your book.. Friggen hilarious Uberfly!

Oh ya- My youngest grandaughter has an inflatable jet ski (toy) with a battery and a propeller. I guess she needs the licence now too according to this flawed law! Where is that on your ethics scale, P?

  12. search google

I was hoping one of you clones would do my heavy lifting..

I did google it and it looks like I need it, pure BS.

    Well I am not going to get it, I would assume that whoever checks these things would have to;

1- Catch me with the boat actually running- Electric and silent so unlikely.

2- What are the odds of getting caught, who checks this anyhow, the feds?

When I googled it I found out I can rent a boat and I do not need a license. This makes perfect sense.. I can rent a house boat, but I need a license with my pontoon powered by an electric motor.

I think I will have my wife rent her pontoon to me..

  13. Dude, Google the word "smarmy", since you're such a Googlin' sonuvagun...

Aw, heck, I'll save ya the trouble...

smarmy - A certain attitude often accompanied by a squinty look and a superior smile that makes you instantly hate a person. :angel:smail:

First time I saw the google link I posted it cracked me up..

I woulda thunk that all the Google, cut and paste that happens by a certain member in the ongoing climate change one person posting thread that googling topics would be old hat...

There is a certain little cliquey group of you guys in here. Some of which take yourselves way too seriously. Speaking of smarmy..

Start a petition and get me banned so the 6 of you can have it all to yourselves..
