  1. Well said Dave Jensen. You are one of the few "vocal" ones that sees through the BS and understands this for what it will likely end up being. Folks these guides are not out there performing open heart surgery. Leave the licensing and regulatory BS for where it is needed. It is funny how greed and control gets mixed up (hidden) under the guise of conservation, you certainly don't have to look far to see this in action.
  2. Really? The presentation is exactly the same, the fly's or "lures" are exactly the same, and the set-up on the line is exactly the same. Some would consider the latter as not "flyfishing", some jusidictions don't consider it flyfishing either.
  3. I am sure if you got involved you could get your message to the people who could actually field your concerns. You guide don't you? Be proactive man! Does not really matter is you are for or against guide licensing, the FACT is you have a bunch of people that will be making a decision that will effect your livelyhood one way or another. Like always it sure is easy to sit back, criticize and poke sticks at the guys who are trying to do something. My 2 cents.
  4. It is called a streamer Tungsten. If you forget to pinch your barb on it you should not be judged any differently than the guy that forgets on his spinner or rapala.
  5. chucking a double streamer rig, articulated streamers, dumbell eyes, corkies, splitshot, san juan worms, two fly nympg rigs; I see zero difference "fly" fishing with this gear or chucking a rapala or bottom bouncing a small jig with a spin rod or center pinning. Yes the casting is different and this is where it ends.
  6. So some of you fished with a spin rod, 2 flies, a weight, and a bobber. Now you nymph with a fly rod, 2 flies, splitshot, and a corkie. So tell me what the difference is? I am sure that there are "flyfishermen" that don't pinch their barbs and spin fishermen that do... Looking in from the outside we are percieved as a bunch of holier than thou`s and a thread like this propagates the stereotype.
  7. So if you found a fly in a tree that someone was obviously fishing with and the barb was not pinched would you have posted a picture of it and done the same song and dance?
  8. If the REAL worry is about the resource than the first thing to be elimanated should be guide days on any body of water. We are slowly slipping into a system where DIY out of Province anglers are being shut out; look at BC. It has nothing to do with the protection of the resource, just greed from the guide/outfiters that have the resources to get in on this at the ground floor. Simple economics, limit or control the supply and the demand increases andd so will thier bank accounts. Of course this is all shrouded in we must protect the resource; Folly! All created by high level lobbying, just do some research on APOS in alberta and tell me what this has done for resident hunters or the resource in alberta? Tougher access for residents, non-residents HAVE to be guided. Guide/outfitters see residents as the competition, and there is a parallel with Angling just wait and see. I have to wait to get a Mule deer tag in some zones 7 years as a resident, but a non resident can PAY and hunt the same tag/same zone every year with the outfitter, the balance is in favor of the outfitter and the client with deep pockets. Don't be fooled and think one is fishing, the other hunting as they are managed by the same government department. Both resources held in the public trust that one group wants to get an economic benefit from- the guide/outfitters! The system is slowly sliding down the slippery slope of user pay driven by the guide/outfitters. If the Angling guides get their *hit together (couldn't in the past) and lobby properly, and get good leadership the resident will get the short end of the stick in the long run. Residents and DIY non-residents are viewed as the competition, don't forget this! The bottom line is any guide worth their salt will not have enough fishable days to fill the demand. Like any business, lability insurance and a business license and then go for it. Sink or swim.
  9. They should give you a plunger when you buy a low flush toilet.
  10. "Seems the only hope for the planet is a complete collapse of industrialized civilizations" When you listen to Gore, Suzuki, and the radical proponents of global warming they dont come right out and say this (some do), but really nothing else seems to fit the template they put forward. David Suzuki was on BNN today and he quoted a statistic that is consistent with the dribble that he and his foundation put forward that has ZERO relevance to the discussion; "The 66 poorest nations on the globe only emit 1% of the greenhouse gas" Well no *hit shirlock- no industry, poverty, living in dung houses, etc, etc. Oh ya, I bet it does not get near freezing in these 66 countries either... Ya, these guys have no bias.....
  11. There is a HUGE difference between commonly accepted science and looking at the factual data from an unbiased perspective. You are saying just because something is commonly accepted we should accept it?
  12. So My Father and I did our annual Duck shoot this weekend (or tried to). We went to the same body of water we have gone to for the past 30 years and it was frozen solid! Probably close to 2" of ice! As far as I can remember back there was only ice once, and only in some spots along the shore. -19* this morning at sunrise. Whatever we have been doing to curb this global warming thing is definately working, I actually think it is working too good.
  13. If you are streamer fishing mostly out of a boat in the Bow I would stay with any of those rods that feel good to you and overline with a 7 wt. to help with loading the rod. If you lake fish, or shore fishing where you will be throwing more line and with wind being more of an issue I would go with a 7wt rod and 7wt line.
  14. I see the Provincial Government's Sheriffs out more than ever lately. How else do you expect Stelmach to replenish the coffers after the fat bonuses this year?
  15. "The King of Swing" Personal Info Toolman Brown Trout 2 years old Male Calgary Born Oct-9-2007 Well it says you are 2 years old today? I am assuming the odometer has rolled over?
  16. I am going to teach our Filipino nanny how to tie flies.
  17. I dunno I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary while I was texting on my way to work yesterday?
