  1. It frustrates me to no end knowing that a B.C. Resident pays the same price for an Alberta license as I do. But when we cross the boarder we pay higher fee's add Classified fee's. Just curious, do B.C. Residents pay classified fees as well?

  2. Hi All,

I am new to fishing the Bow and by reading some of the reports I see some Rainbows are being caught. I would have thought most Rainbows would be spawning up in the Highwood or other feeder streams? Do some stay around or would the Rainbows be back from their spawn already? Thanks for any info!

Some do stay in the river, but the rest should be starting to filter down fairly soon.

  3. You are strongly advised to not even consider animal furs and feathers, packaged or otherwise. All you need is one cranky customs officer and you will either pay or have them confiscated. It is not worth the effort and risk.

As others have suggested, buy materials or flies down under. Do you even know exactly what materials you'll need? No matter what you take, bet a dollar you'll end up buying something like "urine stained koala bear ear hairs" or some "must have" Oz material. ;)

My wife's small bag of trail mix (dried peanuts and raisins) cost us $210 going into Chile last year. Harden criminals we are. Trail mix.

I'm actually not going there for a fishing trip, I'm going there to work. So I usaully bring my stuff and tie flies when I'm done work. A month is as long time to go without anything to do!

  4. http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&safe...tr&gs_rfai=

Check out the first two links.

Ya I already Google'd it, but I can't find anything on packaged feathers and furs. I Know flying to the States you can bring your things across if it's in a company package, ie. H&H, Super fly, Whiting.... My computer wont open up the second link ethier for some reason. I just figured maybe someone on the board has gone over fishing and would have some insight.

  5. Here's the problem I ran into when I started upgrading...

I pretty much just had a 5wt TFO (decent) setup. I wanted something special. I realized it didn't make sense to get another 5wt, so I got a really sweet 3wt setup (i fish the elbow quite a bit). Then I got a sweet 7/8 switch setup (for the coast and here). I'm not sure what's next, but the last thing I'll likely upgrade is my 5wt.

I guess what I'm getting at is that you're going to eventually realize that you'll need one of everything (depending on where you fish most) and it might make sense not to upgrade your current rod wt but to start expanding your collection with equipment you will want to keep for a lifetime.

In other words you're screwed and will end up spending way more money than you will want to admit to anyone.

Probably the smarter way to go! Eventually you'll own 73 rods and only use two, might as well start diversifying now.

  6. I fixed it up for ya.

I remember seeing that video before. Very nice looking intruder. The only problem i have with that is that there isn't a counter rib over that pt hackle and if it breaks.... just add a heavy wire or chenille if you like to counter wrap over the hackle.

Ya I agree 100% I was thinkinh the same thing! Thats for all the help.

  7. its a loop to loop connection for the knot wholesale did it 3 years ago and im pretty sure they sealed it. chop the 2 feet off and redo it?

I wouldn't chop two feet off, but a an inch past your leader would do fine. Just pull out 5-10 ft of line and hang it to dry for a couple day's before you tie and seal!

  8. allright, guess it time to start testing rods out :), i went out today after work and i think my line has had it. the first 2 feet of it is starting to sink =/ i have tryed to clean it and yeah it still sinks, it is not affecting me at the moment since im using nymphs this time of year.

If you didn't seal the line after you tied your nail knot it could just be water logged!

  9. It sometimes can be pulled off, but more likely, you'll need a razor. I haven't tried it with Ringneck, but this is what I do for my Amherst tails. Something Todd Scharf showed me was just to use the blade to get it started and to keep the base from getting too thick. You can do it ahead of time and just keep small sections in a bag ready to use.

I think I'm going to try it, it made a sweet looking fly. how wide are you making the base with your Amherst? I would assume that the two tail feathers would act similar when it comes to wrapping them.

  10. I was watching on line and saw someone using pheasant tail as a hackle! Does anyone know how he would have split the tail feather? Does it pull apart like Rhea or would he have had to cut it?

  11. the thought has crossed my mind of "why give them a dinghy, just drop them off" but that would be cruel I guess...

I watched a few programs on discovery on ships travelling that area and the stress the crews are under wondering if they'll get hijacked or not. Having to build a safe room in a ship just because of piracy???

    sometimes I wonder.

Who cares if it's cruel. I can pretty much guarantee they don't have pitty on the crews that they're hijacking. What they need is Pirate seeking missile's.
