  1. Back in February, I was at the Calgary and there were several lodges from northern Saskatchewan with booths set up. I grabbed an info package from one of them called Thompson's Camps of Otter Lake. The pamphlet I grabbed has several different options with prices. If your interested, send me a PM and drop by the house. I live in Canyon Meadows so it's pretty close to you.

  2. Dewitt's pond west of Airdrie is stocked with trout. Not sure on the limits you are allowed to keep. Go north on the QE 2 to the Big Springs road. Turn west for about 8 or 10 KM. watch for the sign pointing to Dewitt's pond on the south.

Like Conor says, Chain Lake but a boat would greatly help.

Sibbald pond west of Calgary on Hwy 1.

Glenmore resevoir right in town for pike.

Any of the irrigation lakes for pike.

Mitchell Lake, Strubel Lake, sylvan Lake, Pine Coulee. Kananaskis lakes( upper and lower, Lorette pond,

Pick up a copy of the 2015 fishing regs and look at the ES 1 section for other ideas.

When you do take the kids out, let us know how they made out.

  3. I tried using them in the Downtown area for a rooftop job a few years back. Although they worked, the interference from pagers, taxi drivers, couriers etc. made it very difficult to have a conversation. Most of the FRS radios have numerous sub channels within each marked channel on the dial.example, channel 1A, 1B etc. theses are not really separate channels but rather a filter that screens out incoming traffic unless you are on the same channel (1A ,1B.)

So having said all that, you will find that they work but you might be disapointed with the performance.

  4. My wife found out that our dog (a Schnauzer) could hardly hear, so she took it to the veterinarian. The vet found that the problem was hair in the dog's ears.

He cleaned both ears, and the dog could then hear fine. The vet then proceeded to tell Andrea that, if she wanted to keep this from recurring, she should go to the store and get some "Nair" hair remover and rub it in the dog's ears once a month. *

*She went to the store and bought some "Nair" hair remover. *

*At the register, the pharmacist told her, "If you're going to use this under your arms, don't use deodorant for a few days." *

*Andrea said, "I'm not using it under my arms." *

*The pharmacist said, "If you're using it on your legs, don't use body lotion for a couple of days." *

*Andrea replied, "I'm not using it on my legs either.

If you must know, I'm using it on my Schnauzer." *

The pharmacist said, "Well, stay off your bicycle for at least a week.

One afternoon, firefighter Rick was working on the engine outside the Fire Station, when he noticed a little Susan nearby in a little red wagon with little ladders hung off the sides, and a garden hose tightly coiled in the middle.

The Susan was wearing a fire fighters helmet. The wagon was being pulled by her dog and her cat.

So firefighter Rick walked over to take a closer look. That sure is a nice fire truck, the firefighter said with admiration to Susan.

    Thanks, the little Susan replied.

Then firefighter Rick looked a little closer, The girl had tied the wagon to her dogs collar and to the cats testicles.

Little partner, firefighter Rick said, I dont want to tell you how to run your rig, but if you were to tie that rope around the cats collar, I think you could go a lot faster.

The little Susan replied thoughtfully, Youre probably right, but then I wouldnt have a siren.

  6. Bought my last 2 subaru's from Dale at Subaru Calgary. I always go for last years model. We have an outback now and love it. The outback has a much nicer ride to it than the forester IMO. I prefer to drive it over my 4x4 Nissan frontier when the roads are snow covered. It can also go to 85% of the places I would take my 4x4 to go fishing...

Now that his name has been let out, that is also the guy my friend dealt with. Very professional and courteous. If I was buying a new vehicle, that is who I would deal with.

We did check out the 1 year old vehicles. They were all used, although relatively low mileage but the price on them was only $2000.00 and $3000.00 less than brand new. You also give up 1 year on the warranty...

  7. I just went through this process with a friend before Christmas. What we found out was that the Forrester with the Tech package sells out even before they arrive in Canada. In short, none of the dealers in Calgary were willing to move one bit on the price. One of the dealers was very arrogant bordering on insulting to myself and my friend who was actually buying. This experience caused us to go online and read up some of the customer reviews from both dealerships. I encourage you to do that. As arrogant as the first dealership was, the second one was very courteous and helpfull. No pressure at all.. The vehicles are very nice and we both felt that the attitude of the front line sales people is often a reflection of the management attitude. That was reinforced by the customer reviews I read particularly in regards to the service side of things.

I have heard from another friend who bought the same vehicle in Lethbridge that they were a little flexible and very easy to do business with. I have no personal experience with them.

The end result was that my friend bought a Forrester with the Tech package(the new Eyesite collision avoidance system). It is truly unique and worth the extra bucks in my opinion. There wasn't a vehicle that matched in the province that wasn't already sold. Six weeks after signing the papers, she had her new vehicle. She is very happy with it and the dealership.

A word of caution, it seems that these dealers have several fees that they don't tell you about upfront, ie: $500.00 for the bill of sale. She did negotiate that fee downward.

  8. A large group of Isis fighters in Iraq are moving down a road when they hear a voice call from behind a sand dune: "One PPCLI private is better than ten Isis fighters". The Isis commander quickly orders 10 of best men over the dune where a gun battle breaks out and continues for a few minutes, then silence.

The voice once again calls out: "One PPCLI private is better than one hundred Isis 'S.O.B.'s'". Furious, the Isis commander sends his next best 100 troops over the dune and instantly a huge gun fight commences. After 10 minutes of battle, again silence.

The voice calls out again: "One PPCLI private is better than a thousand Isis fighters." The enraged Isis commander musters 1,000 fighters and sends them to the other side of the dune. Rifle fire, machine guns, grenades, rockets and cannon fire ring out as a terrible battle is fought ..... then silence.

Eventually, one badly wounded Isis fighter crawls back over the dune and with his dying words tells his commander,

"Don't send any more men ... it's a trap. There's two of the bastards."

  9. Dave, I've used Clear Cure Goo for several years now, sometimes applying it quite heavy. When I hit it with the light, it hardens up fairly fast. No more than 10 or 20 seconds for it to feel dry to the touch. I have heard that there are two different types of UV lights. Is it possible that the Loon product uses a different light?

  10. I agree that packing two rods is something that I don't do. Almost lost my 4 weight doing just that. I do on the other hand always have a backup rod in the vehicle in case I break the one I'm using. At least then, I can continue to fish. As for length of a 4 weight, I would suggest a rod shorter than 9 ft. Maybe 8 1/2 ft or 8 ft.

If you would like to meet up on the river, I can bring my 4 wt.and 5 wt. you cast them all.
