So, first of all, I have never fished out of a kayak so I could be all wet on this but here is my impression. I have floated many times and fished from my pontoon. It seems to me that a kayak is more sleek than a pontoon and would float significantly faster. One thing I try to do is slow my pontoon down by constantly rowing upstream to slow the boat down. when you do catch a fish, it is very much a struggle to land big, hard fighting trout and trying to get to shore all while fighting the current and other obstructions.
It might be a fun float but my guess is fishing at the same time could result in frustration. Once again though, keep in mind that I'm viewing this from one perspective only. I would be interested to hear others views on this.

Welcome to the forum Mike. July is the perfect time to visit our area. All of the Mountain streams are open for fishing by then as well as the Bow river that runs right through the middle of our city. When you get closer to your trip, contact me and perhaps I can show you some nice water.

I've taken my own Grand Daughters there a few times over the last couple of years with similar results as threepwood. We could see lots of fish but I have yet to see any being caught. Great acidity but it sees a ton of pressure.
How about any place to catch pike? Would have to be casting from shore though.

A friend of mine wants to take his young grand children fishing. They have already made a couple of trips with no success. My question is, are there any places (ponds and such) where the chances of catching a fish is pretty good. Don't care if it's trout or pike as long as it swims and has fins.

On Monday, I found a net on the old man upstream of the trunk road. It is an older, cloth bag, let me know if it's yours or someone you know.

So quiet in the mountains.....heavenly
It really is nice, was there yesterday with Steve and David. No quads ripping up and down the road and only a few random campers.
The water levels are lower than last week but the temps seem to be still in the safe zone. The fish recover quickly and are feisty whe caught. Seems to be a lot of Bull trout around this year.

Thanks Rob, boy, does it feel good to get this rod back! It was missing for almost a month and I had pretty much given up hope of seeing it again. Brent, the gentleman that found it is such a great guy and I can't say enough about him. His sole goal was to find the owner. After he found it, he spent some time cleaning it up so when I received it yesterday, there was little to do but recognize how fortunate I am. It's got a little road rash on the reel and a bit of wear on the cork handle but other than that, it's good to go.

Dmac, thanks for the Heads up. I have contacted the gentleman and it is the rod that I lost earlier. I have made arrangements to pick it up. There are a lot of really honest people in the fishing community. I am truly grateful.

Rob, it is really hard to look gracefull when you are bobbing along like a strike indicator. It'll take a while but I think my ego will recover.

Thanks for the concern Steve, nothing damaged but my ego. I appreciate the extra eyes watching for the rod. What I can say about wading in that area is that a wading staff is not enough to keep you upright. The high flows combined with the greasy rocks simply make wading treacherous. Be very carefull out there and listen to that little voice in your head.

Boy, that is real hard to say, roughly 16/17 km. It's where the river bends close to. The road. I know, not a very good description but it's the best I can do. Ill make another trip soon and have a better description.

When you say "Upper" is that up the Oldman Rd,,west of the FTR? Kilometre?....
Yes, upstream of the FTR.

I had the misfortune to lose my Hardy Uniqua 7' 6" 3 wt rod and reel in the upper Old Man yesterday after taking an ill advised dunking while crossing the river. Would appreciate any word on anyone finding it. Also lost a couple of fly boxes but they are of little concern. Thanks for your help.

Bron i absolutely agree, walking and wading is a totally different situation. I think most guys do a lot of walking though. I'm lucky to get 20 days a year in, hopefully, I'll get out more in the future.

Owned both Simms and Reddingtons, would not hesitate to buy Reds again. Like Simms but the price of waders is getting silly.
I agree Lornce, my last pair were $400.00 and I might as well wrap a plastic bag around my legs, it would work just as well. I am leaning towards the Reddingtons

I'm in the market for a new pair of waders. At this point, I'm undecided between Reddingtons or Simms. I'm not willing to break the bank for a pair. I would like to hear some opinions on the PROS and CONS from your experience. Very unhappy with my last pair of Snowbee waders. Will not buy them again.

Dave, I just tried to end a PM. I think your in box is full.

I'll start the bid for the Malign trip at $50.00

Great video Lornce, made me laugh.

Hey musician, earlier I mentioned that I would give a hand, that still stands. Just let me know how. I also have a fairly good length of rope.
