As of right now, we (three of us) are planning to float the Bow from May 6th to the 8th. Travel on the 5th and 9th. We are bringing one drift boat unless we can find a couple more people from down here. We are planning on camping at Nature's Hideaway as we plan on floating the lower river. I think it would be cool to float through town though below the dam and above the weir. Good idea? Access? Of course we understand how volatile mother nature can be but we don't have a ton of flexibility in the time we can come up to fish. One of us is a guide and starts trips around this time and my wife's birthday is the 4th (can't leave on her birthday can I?). We want to fish before run off gets going. We don't want the water too high but we have always liked a little color to the water we fish, forcing most fish to the bank. STREAMER FISHING!!!!!!! UberFly has been a big help. Beer is on the way. Only one case across the border per person? I guess we will just have to settle on expensive but better dark beer! Not looking to follow anyone down the river as we want to figure most of this out on our own. But wondering if anyone wants to float along with us, help doing our on shuttles, help get to the accesses etc. In return we could host you in the Bozeman area and point out where to buy crummy expensive American beer, etc! PM if that works better.

Thanks for the replies. I actually replied to dutchie before returning to the site. We are considering rentals as opposed to bring up a boat just because of travel costs (ie: taking the Subaru as opposed to driving the F-250). Are there any considerations to crossing the border with a boat? Aquatic issues? How about felt soles? First week of May a good time to float? Fishing licenses? We would be looking to float and camp. Any suggestions? All help is greatly appreciated. Jeff

Hello all, It has been a while since I have looked around here. I just tried e-mailing bow river shuttles and it came back as undeliverable. Has their e-mail address changed? I was looking to contact them about boat rentals for this coming May? Any ideas? Thanks. Jeff

I have always had low end rods until a friend taught me to build my own. I am a Sage XP fan because I could build one for around 400.00 dollars. For me well worth the investment. It is interesting that I would have to pay 75.00 dollars to get it repaired if I mail it to them but from what I have been told, if you drop it off to them, it is free?????? Looks like prices have dropped making room for their new Xi line.

Great looking flies. Love those bar bell eyes. I use them on all my streamer type flies.

Sticking with the OP, St. Croix Avid @ 200.00 Getting away from the OP, Sage XP my favorite is 796. It handles nice fish ok too. Never have cast a Loop. Do they sell their blanks?

Can you get by using one size or do you adjust the size based on what you are fishing?

Pink scuds, can be an excellent producer. There are some very large carp in the Mo. People have started to target them in the heat of the summer when trout fishing can be slow. Hold on tight, I have had several take me well into my backing.

Nice, very good look with a cone head. Do you ever try a brown blood quill marabou for the tail? What else if anything do you add to the tail?

I carry spray and a S&W .41 mag, 250 grain as back up. This is with the intention of using the spray first. Only do this when fishing in grizzly country. I hope to never find out if I am prepared or quick enough. It is always great to see mother nature's creatures in the wild but sometimes it is better off to see them with powerful binoculars.

Wow, was just reading another post about bringing a US bought boat to Canada. Sounds it can be expensive....... What would I need to know about bringing my boat to Canada to fish?

Where Do You Ski?
deeppowder replied to deeppowder's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
P, Could not agree with you more. One run skiing new top to bottom is better than skiing with 5,000 of your best friends any day. Kids get most of their bc at Bridger Bowl so I thats where I get my resort fix. Fortunately where we are there are plenty of places to strap the skins on to go for a hike or even better yet, plenty of water to wet a line in. I would have to say, you guys north of the border have some pretty fine goods. How has the winter been lately? -
Harps, thanks for the explaination. What really got my attention was the "invasive" comment. I did not realize that crayfish are non-native. I will need to investigate this for the body of waters I frequent. I don't see any drop in hatches on these rivers and I don't fish but a couple of lakes here in Montana. Nymphing crayfish can be very productive here. Just looking for patterns that might be productive for a trip up your way.

Black deer hair, black body with red bar bell eyes, red flashabou in the black tail, black rubber legs, BIG BROWNS. I have asked Kelly about his choice of fly names but he will have to respond, not sure if I could give an accurate quote.............

When you are not fishing during the winter, where do you ski?

Are crayfish a major food source in the Bow? What time of year are they soft shell?
-
Even better. Thanks.

Thank you.
