  1. In Alberta you are able to fish 3 flies. If you are just starting out, two flies to start with might be a good idea as less tangles. Key nymphing into the search on the site or google and you will get info for days to read through. There are many different methods. That is were I would start.

edit: note:B.C one fly, both provinces barbless. Always check the regs! Cheers

  2. i just purchased a new 6 w sage, but am more inclined to fish the smaller streams in alberta, would you just go with the 6 w or go out and get a 4 or 5 w for the smaller streams, or do i just stay witha 6 wieght?

Depends on the cash flow buddy, I could use one of ever weight at some point! Almost got them too, but don't tell the wife!

If it was me I would pick up a 4wt 9' in the brand of your choice (whole other issue). Some guys will say a 3wt but I think a 4wt is a good all round compromise. 9' over an 8.6 as the extra length can be helpful at times.

Just picked up a TFO finesse and am very please with it.

  3. Once you have the first one uploaded, hit browse again to make your next selection and click upload again and repeat till you have what you want to post uploaded and hit add reply.

I too have had issues. Understand the above, but again per post total 100kb correct?

so add 3 x 30kb pics for a total of 90kb and than you are done correct? start another post? I too am quite computer literate and have not problem reducing file size.

  4. 15 minutes later, she starts shrieking as her rod fell into the water. I don't know if a big trout pulled it out of her hand (yeah, that's what I'll go with) or she just dropped it, but she was crying and wanted to get a submarine and scuba divers to go and get it.

not the first time I have heard of this event taking place, thinking that buying two princess rods at a time and keeping one in the truck out of sight will be a good idea!

Plus I could use it when no one is looking!! :) Really want try that one that shoots the ball and then the lure falls out of it

  5. Can't say I am a fan of those trebles, but am I really much better running three flies.

I have a good buddy who I have been fishing with for years. We both started chucking gear and I moved to the fly about 6 yrs ago and have never looked back. I use the fly rod for any and all types of fishing..I would rather not catch fish then do it on a spin setup, but that is just my personal choice and I don't look down on spin guys as long as the regs are followed. I personally get more satisfaction from using a fly as not all but sometimes is more of a challenge, and at the end of the day it is about satisfaction of the accomplishment. Using a fly that I have made and created only intensifies the satisfaction X10. I often give this same friend I mentioned above pressure to try the fly rod but as Rick mentioned he is reluctant to try something new that we all know can be difficult and frustrating in my case for many years! I have however managed to get him using flies with his spin rod (nymph set up) which in his case has improved his success. (+now he buys flies off me :))

I think it is evolution. I find it funny how anytime I am talking fishing with someone out of the fishing community they just expect I keep my fish and mean 9.9 times out of 10! I am quick to point out that if everyone did that there would be nothing left to catch. Of course there are exceptions and I am not harping on anyone keeping fish within regs, but this is just an old school mentality, people used to fish to put food on the table.

For me it come down to RESPECT for the rules and as long as they are followed I have no issues with either method. Unfortunately there will always be people in this world with no respect. However, all I can do as an individual is influence this by educating my children family and friends about the importance of respect and conservation for this amazing country of ours.

  6. It has 4 separate chambers, which makes me feel better.

I have the fish cat cougar and love it. Lower profile but never had an issue with water it could not handle.

And could not agree more with the comment above. I have had one bladder go down more than once on the lake and river and continued to fish with no worries. Would hate to think what happens when you are half way through a float and that happens with a two bladder system.... happened to anyone?

  7. run a flashlight along teh seams.. i turn em inside out n sharpie the places the light shines through! then goop em! or aquaseal

Nice Max! Seems like a sound method to me.

I have had a few leaks lately. Placed my compressor hose inside them with a tight grip around the hose while my wife spray with soapy water...look for the bubbles. I would just fill them and release a little more air at a time.

Problem I do see with it is the pressure on the seams..I was careful with the amount of air I released...but a large bang noise would be a bad thing.

I like Max's idea...going to give it a try as the suckers are still leaking a tube of aqua seal later!

    Ready for a new pair!

  8. Don't be fooled Scotch is not your friend! You will learn.

Also made a new friend on this trip, his name was scotch! Thanks Andy!

Everyday live and learn! Cheers :)

  9. Also noticed a great example of what random camping SHOULD be. Not a trace left to know you were even there.

Thanks for the compliment. Can honestly say this is the first place I have been in the bush that I was unable to see a single peice of garbage! Not a bottle cap or peice paper ... Pretty refreshing!

  10. I agree with the guys, get a guide for a walk and wade.

Don't give up dude, once you get it figured it will be well worth it, trust me! It took me almost 2yrs. Hope you are not married however because a new problem begins.

Do you fish other places? I used to hit places like Mckenzie lake with buddies as the fish are easy to catch and thus kills your bow river blues.

You will get man, stick in there, if it was that easy everyone would be doing it.
