  1. I don't think he's guilty. He was too busy looking for his ex-wife's killer.
  2. Rick, I would suggest fishing for the parrotfish from a jetboat during their spawn. Troll.....
  3. Might have stretched or torn something. I have a list of exercises you could do for both elbow and shoulder that will help heal and strengthen. I will see if I can find them. Spent 25 years as a baseball pitcher and know all too well the damage you can do. Can lead to some issues. I can't play ball or even toss a football anymore. I also have to throw my dog's ball underhand when playing fetch (look like a loser at the park). Don't let your kids throw curveballs and sliders before the are in their later teens. And don't go to a spey rod!
  4. I've had a few in the hands and back. Buried a #6 black wolly bugger into the meat of my hand. Buried as in I couldn't see the curve of the hook. My brother also hit me square in the eye this summer on my boat. Thank god I was wearing sunglasses. Less than impressed.
  5. It makes it even more interesting when you are in your drift boat going under the bridge and having someone cast his line into your boat. Happened to me.
  6. Friday was one of the best days I have had fishing in a long time. The kudos go to Brett on this. He made a huge effort to come down and do this. I will say, he spent a lot more time than the half day he commited to. I learned more in a one day than I have the past 3 years. MTB was patient enough all my questions, watch me miss countless fish, hook the trees (which he always unhooked), hook myself, lose his flies, scare away big fish with my 'subtle' casts etc. You never know what to expect when meeting up with someone, but we had some great conversations and to learn more about a great contributor to the site. It was incredible to hook up/miss so many fish, but watching those big trout feed on the bwo was the highlight for me. Unbelievable to watch and MTB called it hours before we even started fishing it. Thanks again. PS Brett even had the patience to not say anything when the subway sandwich artist unloaded a whole bottle of mayo after he requested no mayo!
  7. It is confusing to say the least. A treble hook counts as one hook as they stem from a common shank. So you can have up to 3 trebles on one lure. Other legal presentations would be 3 lures on one line provided no one lure had more than one hook. For example, you could have 3 spoons on the same line and all 3 had one treble hook each. In my opnion, it seems a little excessive as well. When walleye fishing with plugs, I always found it a pain with more than one and often they would snag up on each other when casting.
  8. I was one of the two in the tubes. My brother was in the one that decided to burst near the end of the day. It's worth haulin' a tube up, we had a pretty productive day.
  9. Rick, We were at that lake on Saturday. Spent most of the day there. Great day, lots of people.
  10. Anyone have any good five o' diamonds fly patterns?
  11. It's not about the rod or the holder. It's how you use the rod. And I still have no idea.
  12. Bull trout sausage? Where did you see the rams?
  13. Having a loop like a uni-knot or palomar allows nymphs to react more natrually in the water. Improved clinch doesn't allow for this. I'll use clinch for dries only.
  14. I am out of contacts up there. It's been 5 years. Had a great guide out Kenai/Soldotna who was a school teacher, but he no longer guides. I would suggest finding a guide in that area for kings, as they are within a mile or so of the ocean and the fish are traditionally bigger on the Kenai. It's a good place to target them. Your timing is very good for the larger kings and you can do some great fishing for sockeye at that time on your own, both on the Kenai and Russian river. If you're bringing your own gear for sockeyes and trout, I suggest min. 8 wt. I destroyed a reel on sockeyes. Some really decent rainbows that people treat like suckers. My first fish I caught on the Russian was a 25" bow and people couldn't believe I bothered trying to land it. I will see if I can dig up some more contacts.
  15. I bring my pontoon boat up to these lakes. For the most part, you can easily fish from shore. Another hint. The wind is usually strong, but if you stay over night the wind almost always dies to nothing for evening and early morning. There may even be some fish over 12 inches! There's also a grizzly sow that spends alot of time around the trail. She had some larger cubs last year that have probably left her. Never had a problem with her though.
  16. Good luck. Your amp is perfect for starting out. If you're paying that kind of money, make sure the teacher is certified.
  17. I would buy what she was selling. Thread hijack. That reminds me of a day last summer on the crow, where a lovely blonde lady in her early 20's comes riding up to me on horseback at sunset. Could have been a dream, but wasn't. Her aunt and uncle owned the land we were fishing on. We had a nice chat, then my friend was polite enough to yell over that my wife had just called us for dinner.
  18. Finding the right teacher can be difficult. Years ago I had a teacher who only wanted to show me his new Stevie Ray Vaughn licks. Not the best way to spend my money. Personally, I would learn the basic open chords. You can find all the tablature versions on the internet. Tablature is an easy method, as it tells you where to put your fingers on the fret board. It will take some time to build up some hand/finger strength, as well as, a bit of coordination will develop. Playing an electric guitar will be easier on your fingers as a beginner. Once you know your basic open chords, it will be easier to understand and play basic songs. A good teacher will start off by pointing these out and probably should show you some basic scales. As far as the sound, don't worry about that too much. Most tube amps do like to be driven (turned up), but solid states can still sound ok at lower levels. Only when playing with distortion, will you require to drive your amp. Play around with the settings and you will find a good sound. What type of amp do you have? Most importantly, have fun. Don't let the teacher or anyone force you to play stuff you don't want to play. Playing guitar is a lot like fly fishing, it seems impossible and overwhelming, but everything starts to make a lot of sense after you have played awhile. AND USE THAT WHAMMY BAR!
  19. Have you played any guitar before? I have been playing for several years and could offer up some pointers.
  20. Consider it done. I will get some bow river water samples and use a variety of hooks. I do corrosion testing on a daily basis. Anyone want to donate some specific hooks?
  21. Corrosion is a function of the steel used for the specific hook and the environment (water) that it is situated in. As mentioned, salt water will increase the corrosion rates. Normal fresh water conditions we experience in Alberta will not allow for fast corrosion of the hook. Acidic conditions will also play a factor in increasing corrosion rates. In some cases, it is a misconception that the hook will actually corrode rapidly in fresh water. What more likely happens, is due to the newer regulations with barbless hooks, the hook has a better chance of working its way loose.

    A Drive..

Usually start losing in late January - March. Have seen some in April before.
  23. You missed my point as I described in my second post and you're right you don't have to justify it.
  24. Yeah, my reply was more rhetorical than anything. Just trying to make sure no one gets too high on their pedestal. Proper fish handling skills are just that, not secluded to one form of angling.
  25. How would ice fishing be detrimental to the fish population?
