  1. website states that thorne is closing for perm. retirement. its up for sale or all stock will go on ebay. m
  2. I have the Nor vise and would say that the Nor vise is the way to go. If you call Norm and tell him that you are wanting a vice for large flies only he will most likely sell you the system with just the larger jaws. He is great to work with and will answer all of your questions. m
  3. I purchased this new Eliminator Intelligent Charger from Canadian Tire and I am not 100% sure what setting I should put it on to charge a Deep Cycle battery. this model has 2/10/20/30/40 amp charge rates and the manual states that I should charge it according to the battery that I purchased. The only thing that the battery states is Group 27, 620 CCA, 105AH and from this info I do not see how I am supposed to decipher on what amp rating I should select. Any suggestions on this is appreciated.
  4. Has anyone ever used the bearing protecters which replace the dust cap and has a greese nipple. The guy at princess auto told me that they are the best thing to keep the greese on the bearings. Looking for feedback M
  5. Headed out to Cross Iron Mills today to get boaters license at Bass Pro. thought i would go in to the fly shop to look at a new reel as I am looking for a new cassette type as I am trying to build a stillwater set up. I walk over to the reel counter and behind the counter was this older gentleman(bald with a mustache) standing looking bored out of his mind. I proceeded to ask him if Bass Pro sells any type of cassette reels. He responds "I have no clue what you are talking about" I then say Hardy made one called the Demon. Thinking that anyone who stands behind a counter with $1000 reels would recognize the name Hardy. He then says "good luck with Hardy... product is garbage" then walks away. I thought whatever don't make a big deal of it. kept on looking at the reels that they had and saw that Sage 3850 had a composite spool. thinking it could be an option as i am looking for a system where i can have multiple spools and composite should be cheaper then machined aluminum.......The man returns and I ask. "How much are the spare spools for the Sage 3850". His response was "don't know" (he walked away and never came back) I put down the fly tying material I had in my hand and left the store never to return.........even when they have the going out of business sale. m
  6. Order direct. Dave is awesome to deal with as he is very knowledgeable and should be able to provide better price then Cabelas.. m
  7. I have 20 new one that I can sell you. PM if interested. M
  8. are you looking for Olympic plates or the small Grey ones for dumbbells etc??
  9. I found this pattern on a website but had no recipe or instruction. looking to see if someone here has the pattern for it. m
  10. I have this net and works well in the pontoon. Never brought with me when I wade though. I agree with max that rubber is the better alternative, as the mesh will remove less of the fish slime and scales. M
  11. that is a very nice fish. You are sure doing a great job with that lake. Keep it up. m
  12. I have a 2 man McKenzie Drifter H2 X2 from Dave Scadden and love it. The boat sits very high on the water and very easy to maneuver. Only issue I had with it was once I was on a lake and all of a sudden a wind storm blew in and within 5 min I went from one end of this small lake to the other and could not stop it.(scary I'd have to say) I do not recall that happening in the aluminum boats that i had in the past. Only weights 100lbs total so very light.
  13. I am looking at purchasing a new set up and not sure what the best way to go about it really is. The last time i purchased a new set up(low end) I just went to Wholesale and purchased what the salesman recommended and never even tested it out before I bought. I have read a lot of content on this forum that states you should cast before you buy. So the question is what is the process? Do you cast the rod in the parking lot, do they let you take it to the river for a day? Also how do you purchase the correct line for the rod type and casting style without purchasing a bunch of lines. I would like to purchase a better setup then before and will be spending more money on this setup then the past so I would like to do it right. m
  14. Reliable parts inside Trail Appliances in the old south costco building has parts for all appliances.
  15. Amazing work!! How long is each fly? Would you have a pattern for those that you would be willing to share.
  16. You stated in the previous reply that you use .006 dia wire (I assume inches). I looked that up on the web and it is 38 ga. Do you use ultra wire or other brand,
  17. I am using my norvise. I but a large hook in the vice, wire in the eye of hook. Little spin, place materials, pick up in fingertips, spin gets half way and snaps. I have tried spining slowly and moderate speed.
  18. Looking at making some dubbing brushes and was wondering what guage of copper wire do folks use when they make them???? I have spools of ultra wire size small but when I spin them the wire breaks. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
  19. Very disappoining indeed. My neighbour let's his dog do it's business all over my front lawn and when I stand there with 100 brown spots and tell him it is wrecking the lawn. He says how do I know it is due to the dog and not the soil or the watering.... #*@*@#! I say someone needs to develop fly patterns which incorporate domestic pet fur. M
  20. Second the dave scadden product. Very light and very strong. I have a two person bladderless, alum frame, two standing platforms. It is great. The only downside I would say is when used as a one person the 13 foot pontoons are a tad big. M
  21. what do dentists use lead tape for?
  22. Very cool shots. Gotta get me one of those underwater cameras M
  23. Can a leader go bad?(Expire). I am currently using a 3x leader (Rio) and then attached a 3x flourocarbon. I tried the triple surgeons knot. Fish hooked fight for 2 min and then snap. Look at the break and at the knot.I think it must be the flourocarbon. So I use a triple surgeon knot and tie on a piece of 3x climax(standard tippet material). Three casts later and then fish on. Fight for couple minutes and snap. Knot failure again. Is there a test that you can do to check if leaders are bad or knot test with out resulting in damage to the leader structure? So frustrated. M
