  1. Everyone knows that three wrongs make a right. And how do you know he has a mother? Regarding your declaration on exports from the Lonestar state,I have a suggestion. If you are unsure of the answer, you could find a common element of the two and just refer to your subject by that trait. As an example, say you had two guys named Bob and Fred, but were not sure which one was Bob and which one was Fred. Let's say both guys have red hair, well you could just address both of them as 'Red' and you would be accurate with out asking which one they are. You just have to pick something that both Steers and Queers have in common. "Hey ***hole" would work. Edit - how about those Flames? I'm glad to see they scored 5 runs last night.
  2. Question for you. How do you know he had his mouth open? Not everyone has to sound out the words as they type.
  3. Excellent. Can hardly wait for your well thought out analysis, yet I fear I will have to. Please do deliver said well thought out analysis. That will proove my point that everything changes.
  4. Global Warming. I think it might be occuring. And we humans need to stop it. Clearly we can do this. And while were at it, perhaps we can stop it from raining during the day while I'm trying to fish - let's fix it so it only rains during the night?. The amazing part of this debate is that humans believe not only can they change the global climate, they can control it to within a finite range. This despite the fact (and Don A this fact doesn't come from a Globe and Mail survey like some of yours did) that for millions of years the planet has been either cooling or warming - never staying constant. The thing is that whether we can slow warming (assuming we are warming) or not, there is no way we will prevent eventual warming or cooling. So would we not be better to focus on adapting to climate change as opposed to foolishly thinking we can control it? Face it folks - things change, and our climate will too.
  5. Yes - there is no way that everyone would agree on this, so don't raise the issue. Much better to wait until someone else posts something and then reply with something witty such as, "I like Cake."
  6. Well Don - some of your "facts" are not on Statistics Canada's wesite. Can you point me to the document - I'm weak minded but not weak spirited? Are you sure that some of it didn't come from the Globe and Mail and a document published by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives? Isn't that an NDP front? www.growinggap.ca. The CEO salaries you quoted were based on a SURVEY done by the Globe and Mail - I wouldn't call that Facts. Tell me - how many of them New Dems are buying your fancy $1000 rods? For someone from Denmark - you know much about Canadian politics. Funny how you have no issue with a Texan commenting on Canadian politics - perhaps because you agree with what he says. I remember growing up, there was one little kid who mouthed off all the time, was incredibly arrogant and condescending, and the only reason he didn't get the tar beaten out of him was that he had a very large big brother. Funny thing was, he was constantly badmouthing his big brother, calling him a neanderthal. Yet, he never failed to run to him and accept his protection when he needed help. The only reason that little twerp made it to adulthood was because of his big brother - but he didn't see it.
  7. Please list your sources Mr. Anderson. I believe you have mixed in a number of Facts that pertain to our neighbors to the south. I like the left that are left of our still left, yet furthest right poltical party. They are not all weak minded, just weak spirited.
  8. I'm with you on this one Harps and have already signed. I mean can you imagine how lousy the fishing on the Bow River would be if they ever put a Dam on it? On an un-related note, I tried to drift the Bow, downstream of Cochrane last week. Just west of Calgary, the river started to get really slow and much wider. Has anyone else experienced this?
  9. I didn't mind being unpopular at school, because everyone else was a heathen. - Jeanette Winterson

  11. It is not surprising that Orvis (and other higher end rods) are expensive. You only need read this thread to understand why. Heavy streamers and a general lack of care have resulted in these companies replacing more rods than they ever used to. I do not understand why they offer the warranty they do. Imagine what our roads would be like if you could send your car for free repairs as a result of your careless driving.
  12. That particular reel is designed for fly fishing only. It is possible that it has been overloaded at some point. This can be caused by a number of things, the most common of which is fishing with multiple flies at once. You haven't loaned it to anyone have you?
  13. I have music in my CD player. John Coltrane - A Love Supreme Dave Brubeck - Time Out Verdi - La Traviata Rachmaninoff - Piano Concertos 2,3 Charlie Parker With Strings Rautavaara - Angel of Light
  14. bcrules. I sent you a Private Message. I have no issue with anything said on this forum. Miscreant reprobates exist everywhere and so we must continue to say what we think to be correct, regardless of the response it may generate. Civil responses would be nice, however, civility requires a level of maturity that not all people achieve. In any event, though some have indicated that this is a useless discussion, I believe it is a very important thread, because it speaks to the very definition of the sport. To me fly fishing is very very different than fishing. Some of you even have in your tag line 'Its not about the fish". I wholly believe this. It is about the challenge, the anticipation, the satisfaction, and so much more - the closest I have seen to a perfect description of fly fishing is when Chris Sepio tried to describe it in his short video. It was not the words he used, but the emotion he showed and expression on his face that for me nailed what fly fishing is. Using more than one fly would diminish greatly the joy I get from fly fishing. I stand by my statement that if you use more than one fly, you're not a real fly fisher. You're a meat fisher in different clothing, because now it is all about the fish.
  15. Think you guys are protesting too much. I think I saw you guys on the golf course the other day. You were all playing from thw white tees (except rickr who seemed to be playing from the reds). I played from the blacks because I enjoyed the challenge. After the round you mentioned to me that I was an idiot for not taking advantage of the option to play from the whites - the rules allow it. Some people would harvest their limit, use live bait, barbs on their hooks etc. - as long as the regs allowed it. In fact - I used to have this same debate with people more than a decade ago about using barbless hooks. As the US candidate recently said - you can put lipstick on a pig - its still a pig. You can give someone a fly rod...
  16. Might see you out there cane. You'll recognze me because I will be the one fly fishing. I have no problems with anyone fishing how they like. I have a higher standard that I apply to myslef than I would expect from others. Probably because I've always fly fished and didn't recently convert to it from less refined methods. However, I welcome feedback from those that have switched to fly fishing in the last 5 years but know everything about it.
  17. Bow River from Bassano Dam downstream to South Saskatchewan River May 8 to Mar. 15 – Trout limit 2; Mountain Whitefish limit 5 over 30 cm; Walleye and Sauger limit 3; Walleye over 50 cm; Pike limit 3 over 63 cm; Burbot limit 10; Goldeye limit 10; Lake Sturgeon limit 0; Bait allowed. Are you indicating that even though using bait is legal you don't agree with doing it? Many people would have trouble finding where Brucie and Richie didn't apply common sense. And I don't see anything in the scenario that showed bad manners. What? You have an opinion on this that is different from what others may think and you dare post that!?!? I hope you post a reply to yourself and point out that you may be a bit narrow minded on this and that you shouldn't imposs your preference on boating style on others. After all, the boat is legal and does no more harm to the environment than you do when you drive to the river.
  18. I think narrow mindedness is relative. Consider this scenario. Lets say you're out on the Bow River downstream of the Bassano Dam teaching your son to fly fish. Its a nice sunny day and you're really proud of the nice tight loops junior is tossing. All of the sudden, up the river comes a Regina-Reject (not against the regs to be from Sask) in his brand new 400 hp jet boat (perfectly legal). Bruce motors up with the radio blasting (also legal) with his spouse, Richard , right beside him (legal). They pull up within shouting distance but not too close to where you're fishing, turn down the Milli Vanilli that was playing on the radio (out of respect for the environment) and give you and your boy a big old wave. Then they both proceeed to whip them out - flyrods that is. Bruce and Rich put on 3 flies each, and to each fly they attach a big old worm (perfectly legal). They toss their lines in and within a few seconds they both have a fish on. This continues for an hour, with Brucie and Richie hauling them in. Each time they catch a fish, they give each other a big ol' kiss. Then they fire up the motor and head off. After they leave, your boy says, 'Hey Dad, why don't we put three worms on our lines, it worked great for Brucie and Richie?". So the question is obvious - "Who pitches and who catches?" No, thats not the question. The question is, "Would you consider that real fly fishing?" Edit - forgot to add that when Brucie and Richie fish the rest of the Bow, they use three flies but no worms.
  19. Still maybe too subtle for bhurt, though, eh? But not nice to make fun of the nescient. Regarding your tag line. If your dad stole a line from Shakespeare, repeated it to you and then I quoted it, would I be messing with you, your Dad or with Bill? Now for the useful fishing information you asked for. Attention all fly fishermen and women! Here is some useful fishing information, please take note. Get a pen and write this down. Here it is: Real fly fishers only use one fly. The best advice I ever gave someone: Never use more than one fly.
  20. On bearspray. The only guy that ever did a real study on effectiveness: "During his 16 years of field work Smith has never had cause to use the spray himself - proof that using caution and knowing what you are dealing with is the best deterrent of all. Indeed Smith believes that one of the key reasons that the spray works is that it stops the user from running a way - a bad move when faced with bear attack." I Don't know the circumstances of buddy that got it on the Dogpound - but, alone in the bush and running from a bear ain't smart. I got no sympathy for an idiot who kills himself on a motorbike because he was a noob that had no idea what he was doing. Then my gf starts giving me the gears about how dangerous my bike is.
  21. Yes - but I find it usually only takes one pattern, I skillfully lay a single hook out there and some fish just can't resist. Usually they get really angry and put up a decent fight, but eventually after playing with them for awhile, I reel them in. After all, as some have pointed out, I'm dealing with something with a tiny brain. It's a great pastime. But I enjoy variety so I think I'll leave one fish to go find another even though some have suggested that is not a good idea.
  22. How do you know headscan is a man? Anyway - go ahead and justify your chumming approach if you must, but part of fly fishing is tradition, and tradition is one fly. I won't insult you because of your views, no matter how wrong they are. Thats just the reasonable type of man I am. The best advice my father ever gave me: Never chum for fish just to catch fish!
  23. I never cease to get amazed by the number of people that are so freaking worried/titalated about bears. Since 2000 - more than 40 people have died from West Nile in Canada - 14 from bear attacks (4 by Griz). Smoking related deaths are estimated 50, 000 PER YEAR! Of the bear attacks the vast majority are people that are alone. i swear, growing up that being attacked by a bear was never something anyone was fixated on. Could it be the influence of the migration from the east that makes this such a popular topic now? classic that two elderly americans would nail the id of a bear as a grizzly.
