  1. I had excellent support from TFO. I called then here in Calgary, then dropped over with the broken rod part - they replaced it immediately. No hassle, friendly and cooperative.

Contrast that to Sage - took 3 months and $40 to get the replacement tip.

  2. ... And the idea of closing fisheries every second year of so; that would help immensely, and it is only a matter of time before that is exactly what will happen- out of necessity."

I was around in the 60s and later when the misguided alternate year closures were in effect. BAD IDEA. Imagine the pressure on the Crow when the Oldman is closed for a year. In a year the fish do not recover from that kind of over fishing. The amount of poaching going on then was criminal, so I would speculate that there would be no saving in CO manpower. Picture the random camping issue on the Castle with the Gap closed.

    BAD idea, BAD

    CR is much better idea.

Not intending to hijack this thread, but wanted to make that idea a non starter.

Having said that, there is merit in Sun's ideas, and given informed debate and due consideration perhaps some testing ought to be considered.

  3. nice fish, nice pics.

I'm housebound recovering from surgery, so my only life is a vicarious one - so keep the pics and stories coming.

Its a lifeline, a thin one, but a lifeline.

    Thanks

  4. Went in 2001 with my son. Wonderful trip. We were early July. Not crowded at all - did a Monday start. At most we had one other group per campsite, and 3 of the five nites we were alone. No grizz sightings, but fresh sign on the trail. Saw a small black bear, and lots of moose.

We hit awesome weather. I would go again in a heartbeat.

    Fishing was mediocre.

  5. When I was using my electric ( trolling 14ft lund in SK) I was very satisfied witht the battery from Costco - tried other marine batteries over the years, but it was best. lasted longest, held the charge throughout the day, and the price was way less than I found anywhere else.

Don't even think about a car battery, unless you like rowing

  6. At Sunday church the local Vicar explains that he must move on to a larger congregation that will pay him more.

There is a hush within the congregation. No one wants him to leave because he is so popular.

Fred Smith, who owns several car dealerships in Southland and Otago, stands up and proclaims:

'If the Vicar stays, I will provide him with a new Holden every year and his wife with a Honda mini-van to transport their children!'

The congregation sighs in appreciation and applauds.

Sam Brown, a successful entrepreneur and publican, stands and says, ‘If the Vicar will stay on here, I'll personally double his salary and establish a foundation to guarantee private secondary school education of his children!'

    More sighs and loud applause.

Agnes Jones, age 88, stands and announces with a smile, 'If the Vicar stays, I will give him sex.'

    There is total silence.

    The Preacher, blushing, asks her:

'Mrs . Jones, you're a wonderful and holy lady, whatever possessed you to say that?'

Agnes's 90-year old husband, Joe, is now trying to hide, holding his forehead with the palm of his hand and shaking his head from side to side, while his wife replies:

'Well, I just asked my husband how we could help, and he said, 'Screw him'.

  7. I was testing children in my Dublin Sunday school class to see if they Understood the concept of getting to heaven.

I asked them, 'If I sold my house and my car, had a big jumble sale and Gave all my money to the church, would that get me into heaven?'

    'NO!' the children answered.

'If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the garden, and kept everything tidy, would that get me into heaven?'

Again, the answer was 'No!' By now I was starting to smile.

'Well, then, if I was kind to animals and gave sweeties to all the children, And loved my husband, would that get me into heaven?'

    Again, they all answered 'No!'.

I was just bursting with pride for them.

I continued, 'Then how can I get into heaven?'

A six year-old boy shouted out 'YUV GOTTAE BE FOCKN'DEAD..........'

  8. Buy the licence at the RELM website, print it as a pdf file, saved to your machine, store a copy on your Blackberry, or home computer

Print one on paper of course, so you dont need the backups, but they are safely stored. I havent checked if the CO will accept the electronic one if the paper one is not there. The bar codes etc are all there though.

  9. Got the Equinox 3 years ago. Other than long hikes, it hangs in the garage. I found the front pockets too bulky. Also turned out when I loaded the front part (I'm a gear guy, so overloaded would be more like it) it gets really heavy.

I had buckles sewn onto the wader straps a s I found when I used the front alone, the thin straps dug into my neck. That worked well.

When I started with the spey, the bulky pockets were annoying.

Moved on to belly packs, but they never really worked for me.

Got the patagonia vest about two months ago, and absolutely love it. Now the circle is complete.

Gotta try a bunch to find what works for you.

  10. How did you like the Echo 4wt? My favourite rod and I really like it but others seemed to think it was a noodle lol

I liked the Amundson much better. I was looking for a lighter rod, and it seemed to fit that, and I found it more responsive than the Echo. I guess I would call it less noodly, but I am not a good judge of that, I am not sure what "more noodly" feels like, maybe I have been married too long.
