I was using the simms , folded down for a bunch of years, loved them, never went deep anyway (old guy, spey rod) when they wore out, bought the simms pants, love them, So far a belt has worked adequately, but I think I will give the suspenders a shot. Now, if there was only a way to stop leaking.

very interesting, and gives some food for thought. kinda contrary to conventional wisdom. always good to test the assumptions.

bought the cabelas waist high ones. first pair leaked badly, second pair leaked a bit. both went back.
my simms experience echos lornce's, lasted ten years, but leaked from the start. the inside is a measles outbreak of patch material, usually required to be reaplied after two weeks for new leaks.
couldnt find the redingtons in town.

Knibbes did some quality work on my F150 - rear end (pinion bearings) and exhaust manifolds. quality work, good to deal with and fair pricing.
Since then they have done all my maintenance work.
I go to the Crowfoot location.

I have been using the same Hydrogen rod since the fall. I previously used a Amundson ww 3/4 for 4years. Both rods were primarily fishing the bow river.
I am using integrated lines, a 240 gr Spey lite skagit from SA. and a 240 gr airflo switch float. I really like the airflo for indicators, line mending is pretty good.
I find that the SA skagit is a bit overweighted for the line, but this is a very personal matter, and if you are just starting the spey game, overweighting is probably good. I am using versa tips for both the soft hackle and the smallish streamers. However I fish 70 * 80 % with the bobber.
I am very impressed with the Hydrogen, handles fish well, nice feel. mends line well, good backbone for me. A little whippy with the skagit line, but it does throw it a long way out there.
Have fun with this.

Fly shops and guides are the tangible heart of our sport, here's how to help them
I know we are all hurting, some more than others, but give some thought to the folks who support us.

This new study shows a decline of "all" sports fish in the Bow. I have noticed the decline in whitefish and adult rainbows. The browns, however, have seemed to recover very well after the 2013 flood. However, the 2018 study is not good news at all for the river.
This fall was good for me - many whities, a few browns and better than my average for fall bows. The spring and summer had the whities only rarely, frequent big healthy browns and only a few (albeit healthy and strong ) bows. Only infrequent tiddler browns. Nymphing, same spots as prior years.
Goes to show that anecdotal info can be unreliable.
A side note - noticed quite a few of the 16+ browns and bows had what to me appeared to be pelican damage - cuts and slashes. Didnt see any such on the whities or the small trout.

SA suggests their sonar leaders, anybody try these - thoughts, comments?
Going to try a 225 grain spey lite, skagit, integrated. I am not a streamer guy, and wanted to give it a serious try this winter. Not likely throwing a whole chicken, just some leeches, buggers and sculpins.
Thanks.

I have always tied pts and hare's ears with legs, yet I do notice that a number of the patterns on the web do not. I am interested in the comments as to effectiveness and usage of the forum.
Note that I tried to think of a bit of double entendre arising from the subject, but nothing came together.

Be very aware of silent creepers. Sheets of ice can sneak up behind you and take you out. Almost happened to me.
What he said. worry far more about the creepers than breaking a shelf. even a 4 sg ft creeper can take you out.

mostly general pattern. My skill level is not so sophisticated that I tie to match anything other than a type. I also fish a lot of small water, and cutties are opportunistic feeders. bigger waters, I look for stupid fish.

did that today. was OK, I suspect that the upcoming cooler weather may put the chill on that. later in the afternoon today, the wind kinda got uncomfortable, although tolerable. Woulda been absolutely ok if the fish action was a bit better.
