  1. I don't think anyone has a problem with you sharing a great day, most people like to see the pics and read about a good day on the water. However, how is telling the public your location of any benefit to your post?
  2. Those aren't whitefish dude, those are what many refer to as "squaws". Hope you didn't eat any those things are nasty. There are tons of those in that lake.
  3. I posted a picture of a 38" pike I caught just downstream of the city last august. Caught it on my 5 weight too! You can see the pic if you look back into my old posts, not sure if that's the one you are thinking of.
  4. sweet pics man, tons of nice fish there. Got a question, I night fished a bunch last year during the stonefly season and got lots of action swinging big foam patterns, What is a good method for night fishing this time of year? Swinging small emergers?
  5. To try and say that all hunters are poachers is a joke, that's no different then classifying all fishermen as poachers because of a few bad seeds. Many hunters care just as much about conservation as any flyfisherman. Sure there's lots of goofs that don't follow the rules, but take a hard look at the fishing community and there is not much of a difference.
  6. Sweet, thanks for the help guys. I'll have to check out that forum. It doesn't seem as stacked as this one with information but it should help. Also thanks esleech for the tips, Is Diefenbaker fishable from shore where you were saying?
  7. So I am stuck in Saskatoon for school, I came out here at the beginning of September and I'm going crazy having so many fishless days. I fished the bow almost every day this summer, and to quit cold turkey fishing the bow is harder then quitting cigarettes lol. Anyways does anyone know of any good places to flyfish around Saskatoon? Or even for that matter spin fish, I guess I could dust off the old spinning rod at a chance for some walleye for dinner. I have googled fishing in Saskatoon but you get more guiding and outfitting sites than anything. Are there any good forums such as this to get me started? Even some upland gamebird hunting would be a good way to spend some time away from the books but I don't know where to do that either. Thanks
  8. I use a 8'6 5wt sage RPL, I've never felt like it wasn't enough on the bow, yet it still feels right on the smaller streams.
  9. Was looking at the seasons pictures the other day, stuck in saskatoon for school and missing the bow. So i made a little slide show of this seasons fish. Had a good year for my first one, gotta give lots of credit to this sight for helping learn so fast. slide show of '07 bow river fish
  10. My girlfriend caught this fish last weekend and was asking me what kind it was, her uncle said it was a ling cod but it looks different then ones I have seen. I have never fished in the ocean before but I figured someone here would know.thanks
  11. nice fish, but I think I like the hartford hat even more.....I've still got my old whalers jersey from when I was around 5 or 6 years old.
  12. Awww, I thought you were going to say the FTR was open. Oh well I guess I'll go get a frosty
  13. haha that's hilarious, he must always be there. I'll try and find the pic it's almost the exact same. It was just begging for a photo....
  14. thanks alot for the advice guys, I am leaving tonight. I think we'll do suzanne and surveyors for sure. I'll post results ...
  15. I have seen and caught fish right in the park by evergereen before, I don't think there is too many around but one day I was biking through and seen a few nice fish in a pool and came back the next morning to catch a few decent rainbows.
  16. It looks like I am going to be going camping around koocanusa with some friends this weekend. I have been in the area before but for dirtbiking moreso then fishing. I am just wondering if anyone has fished any of the lakes around there, I know Tie lake and Baynes are supposed to be full of bass so that could be fun. Apparently there is also a lake nearby named suzanne that has large trout but I have never heard anything about it. If anyone has any info about any of these lakes it would be appreciated, I would like to get my girlfriend into a couple fish this weekend and go somewhere where I can have a decent day tossing some flies around. thanks
  17. on a more serious note about the first pic, is that on the indian graves road? I've got almost the same pic of a goat with it's head down a bg hole on that road.
  18. DBT, that's scary stuff. I had a cougar stalk me last fall for a good twenty minutes. It was damn scary, and I had a gun in my hand. The thing is it was in thick bush and I could never get a shot at him if I needed to, I gave a warning shot but that didn't help and I figured I should save the last two shots. I'm sure many people have been stalked and just don't know it, but this one was making a throaty growl, deep breathing sound the whole time. He wanted me to know I was being followed.
  19. whoa scary stuff, good thing you came out unharmed. We had a less scary encounter yesterday at the livingstone, my buddy was fishing around the bend from me and a black bear came from the bushes behind him and crossed the river beside him. It didn't notice him until it had crossed the river, and when he did notice him he stopped and stared for a while but enough yelling sent him on his way.
  20. yeah it really sucks, I'm more pissed off at myself though for leaving it in there. It's my pop's old rod and if I lost it I would be choked. It's a sage 586 RPL 5 weight. Thanks alot for the offer, I'd feel bad taking a loaner from someone I've never met.....but if you're offering.... . I'll bring it in today and see how long it will take.
  21. My truck was broken into last night, and I was an idiot and left my rod in the back seat. THank god it didnt get stolen, but they broke the small sliding glass window in the back and when they slid into the truck my rod tip got snapped. Now I need to know if I can get this fixed, I need it ASAP as I am moving soon and I need to get as much fishing in as possible before I go. Thanks
  22. speaking of poaching on the bow I found a dead gut hooked 23" brown on the bank yesterday with a pickeral rig hanging out of it's mouth btw you're good to stay all night at southland
  23. Thanks Toolman, I went out today from 12-5 and had 4 in the first run, all swinging a soft hackle. Also, I did not snap one off, however I only got one to hand. Now I need to practice fighting a fish that has a downstream headstart I guess. THe day really slowed for me after that, I couldn't get much on anything I tried. I am definitley planning a night trip soon. Thanks again for the help
  24. I have been trying the swinging method the last few days and it has been the most sucessful for me using soft hackles, however I have been getting broken off pretty regularly by big fish. I am using 8lb test so I don't think it's a matter of that. Are you not supposed to strike at the take and just let the fish hook itself? I have been trying that too, but the excitment of how hard the fish nail the fly on the swing leads me to striking and busting off. Also should your rod be pointing downstream when you are nearing the end of the swing, and if so should you instantly bring your rod back to apply side pressure when a fish hits? thanks...
