  1. I'm spinin' a few simple salmon flies, tryin' to get the proportion right before moving on to some others...................why I always start with the last flies I'll use is beyound me.

A couple silver tips & green butts....................I like the claret/gold combo.................gonna try this for the first time this year

  2. I know Jerry, it's fair trade. They produce high quality flies on quality hooks with often expensive materials. These are specialty flies for a focused market.

I'm sure Jerry is a nice guy, I have gotten excellant service from him on serveral rod and reel orders.

But to charge $4 for a bug, $4.50/$5.50 for a hairwing & $5.50 for a bomber (I kinda agree here, I hate those SOB's) is a little much. As for quality flies I'm sure they are, atleast they better be. As for quality hooks, Diiachi 2441 (Salmon standard around here) are only $18/hundy for a dealer no matter what they sell them for retail so I don't agree there. As for expensive materials, unless we are talking feather wings the expense of a fly are in the hook.

Don't mean to rant, but I just can't believe there is a market for such highpriced flies. I can see emergency restocking but not a focused market.

But then again hes been in bussiness for a while, and I'm still doing something I hate to put food on the table.

  3. I did witness a similar situation - although not on such an intense scale - in Jerry Doake's shop at Doaktown on the Miramichi when I was there last. A couple of girls were cranking out Green Machines and you hope they were getting Fair Trade prices.

Jerry Doak is also charging $5-6 per fly so either the girls are getting "fair trade" or he is making a mint.

  4. maui jim customer service was great to replace the first pair, they sent them back within 3 weeks. then the second pair broke while in mexico on the first day , i loved these glasses so i went to mall and got some more, i should of just some cheap ones but we were going marlin fishing and i thought i needed them. a month later exact same thing when camping and i lost the one half , so i send in 1-1/2 pairs to the repair office in ontario. a week later i get a call from them and they want me to pay $ 184.00 for parts , i spoke witha repair shop manager, i demaded that they fix my glasses for free becuase iam a loyal customer. she told me that every thing would get sorted out on their end and give me a call back. couple weeks later i got a parcel from them and was very happy , when i opened it there was 1-1/2 pairs of broken glasses in a new case. Can you retake picture with credit card turned over please.

  5. I'd show you the wood roof rack I built for my canoe on my Outback.................but you guys would call me a redneck..................it cost me $15 bucks instead of the $230 that the dealer wanted..........rails already on my wagon.............atleast the wife won't drive my car now

  6. I'll say two things:

    1. Glad there was no internet or video cameras when I was a kid.

    2. I'll probably get flamed for saying it, but I think we are losing perspective here. People are killed and women are raped every week in Canada, but kids chasing a moose or three guys shooting ducks has people riled up. Not saying that the duck thing was right, just that it doesn't bother me as much as some other things that people (men) do.

    Number 1: Amen

    Number 2: Not by me

  7. Moose chased to exhaustion, beaten by boys

A Newfoundland Wildlife officer shoots a distressed moose in Deer Lake Aug. 10. (CBC)A young moose in western Newfoundland had to be shot by wildlife officers on Monday after being chased to the point of exhaustion and beaten with sticks by three boys on bicycles.

Police said they got a call Monday afternoon after a young moose collapsed in a backyard in Deer Lake, 50 kilometres northeast of Corner Brook.

"The moose was obviously in distress," said Deer Lake RCMP Sgt. Jacques Morneau. "[it] could not get up. It tried several times and could not stay on its feet. The animal was exhausted to the point it was near death."

Witnesses told police that three boys, all under the age of 15, were to blame.

"[They] were chasing that animal on bicycles and hitting it with sticks," said Morneau. "Apparently they chased it to the point of exhaustion."

Morneau says the scene was disturbing for him and his colleagues.

"The young moose was calling for its mother in the yard there," he said. "I mean, it's heartbreaking, right? Two officers came back here. They were totally disgusted."

Wildlife officers put the moose out of its misery with a rifle.

Morneau said the police investigation is continuing, and the boys could face charges. He said they are known to police.

  8. Have been looking for a 790 RPL for a while now and can't seem to find one. I'm thinking about putting one together but I'm also having problems finding a blank. A couple of guys I been talking to have told me that the VPS and RPL share the same blank (no problems finding a VPS) can anyone confirm this?

    thanks

  9. I used the vapour barrier tape you use on the outside of houses. Put it on the indisde of the waders and it workd like a charm...............$14 dollar a roll at Crappy Tire and you got a lifetime of supply of patches...................and you don't have to wait for drying time...................I also use it to patch holes in my alumnium canoe..............two years and counting.............I wonder why nobody wants to float the Gander with me in my canoe.
