I understood the Blairmore mitigation was pay back for the realigning of the Crow at the east Blairmore access when the highway was realigned.

May be its time to relax, it seems breaking the law is in the eye of the beholder. I'm certainly not in favor of poaching but, how often do we all stop at stop signs or exceed the posted speed limit. Personally I think the safety on our roads is a serious problem. Make sure you all drive safely on your way to your favorite fishing (any legal means you like) spot this long weekend & any fly fishers please bring back some photos to share with those of us who must caulk this last holiday weekend of summer.

It looks very much like the trout I used to catch in the upper Mcleod, Greg and Embrass Rivers. I always thought they were the Macleod River strain of Rainbows. They seem to keep the parr marks longer that the interlopers, the more silvery bows that seem more prevalent in the lower Mcleod, Wild Hay and Muskeg or further South towards Nordegg. I'm certainly no expert just my two cents.

The cost does seem high for some of the products but there has to be a demand for them. On the other hand from when I started there is a wide variety of quality products readily available both on the fishing and tying side. You don't have to go high end, especially to start to fall in love with the sport.

I'm with Maxwell as I get older I have trouble finding my # 14 olive 60 feet out there so I put it 2 feet behind a stim. soon to be a hopper. If I haven't found it yet and I see a rise with in two feet I hit it.

For me the sense of discovery and adventure and the beautiful places you see have been half the enjoyment of the sport. Walking along side of a Trout stream I've never visited before with absolutely no idea of where the good stretches are or what the fish are hitting on from the local fly shop is exactly perfect. Its figuring it out and enjoyed the long walks through the wild places if you catch fish or not. I've enjoyed trout fishing up and down the east slope, caugh fish most every where and I've learned it by myself and enjoyed it all. I'm sure I would not enjoy it as much if I learned every thing in a book or had it handed to me on a silver platter. I'm glad to share with family and trusted friends who are not quite as commited but in my opinion the rest of you should go for some long walks you may find a top secret spot of your own.

Not only on the Oldman, the St. Marys, Waterton and Belly Rivers down South are only a shadow of what they could be. Granted most of the Weirs and Dams were built long before things like Enviromental Impact were invented. The question is where should we be putting our presure Provincially or Federally. There was no Political will through the good times so the odds are long during lean times.

I think your right, its time people started talking with votes & holding the Government resposible for the things they are entrusted to protect.

Just a heads up for all you folks that love to squat for the summer down south in the Castle area Forestry. The Province has a new land use frame work in place and a lot of the prime sqatters lots along the river are now posted as No Motorized Vehicles. The few remaining spots are filling up fast so better drag your trailer out through the remaining drifts now.

I carry three mid size boxs, less box's leaves room for more beers. 1 nymph 1 streamer in my belly bag & 1 dry & emerger box in my chest pack & close to my heart. I used to carry a bunch of patterns now I probably have thirty in various sizes & a few new (on trial) ties. I used to have specialty box's but now the only one I have is a still water box I leave in the U tube. I hope that typing impediment isn't contagious.

From my experience if the leak is from stretching like when you cross a fence or step out of a drift boat they could be screwed, its like trying to chase down seam leaks you cann't seem to get it all.

Black Marlin charter did a great job for us both fishing and diving (the captain has over three thousand dives) I think they have an office in Coco. I'm no expert but I think the Tarpon are on the other (east) coast. It doesn't look like a long way away on the map but it is. Good luck.

Yes I did, the fish were certainly not leader shy.

Top water plugs (red and white) long casting rod 15 lb test. Jacks past ten off the beach & Roosters past fifteen off the rocks, one small Amber and a few other toothy creatures including a Yellow Fin of about 7 lbs (yummy) and a Gar about three feet long (two feet of teeth) bring extra long needle nose as my regular size were woefully short for this type of fishing. Hard ware is not my cup of tea usually but, I just used old equipment that has been laying around for years or I inherited and it was a big hoot for absolutly free. When I left I gave all the equipment away to one of the local Tico's Henry who for no reason at all went out of his way to show me how to go about beach fishing and it was appreciated as I was going in blind (prarie boy). We shouldn't be to quick to judge the locals as fishing is how they get food to eat and to trade for other food not for sport and catch and release wasn't in Henrys play book and I couldn't blame him. I loved it and I'll be going back this winter unless our buck hits 50 cents us.

I just had to mention that I'm fairly familiar with this bit of river. From the Shell near Frank to West of West Coleman the entire river is no where near natural. On the contrary its about as man made as possible. From the Shell there is berms on both sides of the river with enhancements then you hit the section that was realigned when the new bridges went in complete with enhancements then you hit Blairmore where the river runs through a virtual man made gorge complete with a 10 foot concrete wall down most of the South side with enhancements, then we get to the "wet lands" where the CPR bermed and channeled the river to the very south edge of the flood plain so free flowing water can't enter, it should look like the wet lands on the West Castle. The berm has been repaired as of the late ninetys by somebody. After that is the section that was cleaned up by F&G I think then comes the ditch through East Coleman then there is the old mine site and on it goes. May be there should be a greater effort to try to naturalize more of it. There is no reason the Blue ribbon Crow can't reach all the way to the Lake.
