  1. Forgot the reel once... Think this is how they "invented" tenkara but I stomped home with blue swirls coming out my ears :-)
  2. Glad to hear those concrete lock blocks will be temporarily removed. A long term solution is still needed --- or we're going to lose this boat launch in the next year or so for other reasons. A flood barrier (dyke and concrete wall system) will be built between the bike path and the river to protect Heritage Drive and a portion of Deerfoot. Those plans currently make no allowance for vehicle access at Graves. I expect that a flood gate will be built at the Burnco/driving range entrance. Flood gates are expensive. If there is enough noise, hopefully they commit to a flood gate at Graves.
  3. A thought for folks here to consider... There are plans to complete flood protection works at the intersection of Heritage and Glenmore. That's right -- the Glenmore launch. Plan's would have a 2-3 m high berm on the wet side of the bike path. Wrapping north and south for a few hundred yards each way. Kinda touch to launch a drift boat... or any other boat you can't shoulder... Pay attention and get involved (I'm not, but I'm trying). The 17th ave launch disappeared without consultation. How will Glenmore fare? This is not fear-mongering or troll-baiting. This is real.
  4. I've re-soled my own boots a ton of times with regular contact cement. Even belt sanded the rubber nubs off a useless pair of Cloudveil 'feltless' boots to glue on and make them useful. Never had a problem or separation. Sand, clean, glue, clamp overnight with duct tape or similar.
  5. So that explains why Michelle never got back to me.... Pity. Hope all is well with those folks.
  6. Thanks everyone, much appreciated -- that's definitely the place he mentioned, he'll have a good Christmas!! Cheers, Pete
  7. Hi everyone, Xmas is upon us, and I'm still looking to get something for my flyfishing brother in law. I'm a ff addict, too. He spoke with a guy down near Waterton/Pincher Creek way (I think) who has a private fishing lake. This really fired up my b.i.l., sounded like a great spot--or a neat experience, anyways. Have any of you heard of this place, or one like it in SW Alberta? It would be a cool gift for him that he'd really appreciate. Not a fly-in adventure, just spring-fed with private access. It's not the same as that private club down around High River/Vulcan that I've heard rumours about. Thanks in advance for any leads!! Pete PS Along the Xmas vein... Pretty much every flyfisherman I know is getting one of those Monomaster tippet/line collectors from me... I've been using it for a couple months, great little gadget.
  8. Hands down, my best fish this year (possibly ever) is a bull caught down Livingstone-Oldman way in mid-July. Big pool on a relatively small tributary. Standing on a ledge near the back of the pool in 6" of water, 8' drop off at my toes. Scratching my head, wondering why there were so many 12" to 14" cutties on the edge of the pool in 2' of water that wouldn't take anything I offered. Looked down and saw a shark cruise past, 1' below my toes and 1' out. Backed off and waited 10 minutes. Tied 8' of mono to my floating line with a bunny leach. Lobbed the leach to the middle of the pool, waited 5 sec and gave it a twitch. Whammo! Helluva fight, screaming around the pool and trying to keep it from going downstream. Scared like hell of busting my 4 wt! Good 5 minute fight and rewarded with a taped 26" bull trout. What a beauty!!! No pix, but I now take my camera and a fistfull of bunny leaches whenever I head down there. Just discovered bunny leaches and I'm having a blast with them. Work up the pools with dries, wait, switch to a sink tip and a bunny then work back down. Catching a lot more of the bigger fish this way, but nothing like that bully. Swinging a 5 wt too, just in case.
