  1. Oh, a similar discussion is going on over-here... http://www.sexyloops.co.uk/cgi-bin/theboar...ST;f=12;t=6023; in New Zealand. OHV's also introduce weeds and can carry mud with whirling diesease, dydimo, and NZ mud snails. Bad, bad, and bad!!
  2. You're right Greg, but in the SE slopes, OHV use (ATV's, 4x4's, bikes, etc) contribute to habitat loss and pollution big time. Responsible use is fine, but people are tearing up the streams, refuelling on the banks, washing oil and mud off in the water, tipping vehicles and dumping gas, basically doing all the things that industry get fined for (well would with more enforcement). (Also access is easier for poachers, new trails cause sediment point sources, trails affect wildlife movements, etc) Why can recreational users destroy stuff for their enjoyment when industry using the resource has to minimize their impact. I can tell you, there is a large impact on fisheries from random campers and OHV, rivals industry in my mind!! Cheers, Paul
  3. A few REALLY wreak it for the rest!! Its hard not to look at ATV's in distaste after you see stuff like whats on these videos. That and going up there in person and seeing cars left in the muholes (used to be streams), seeing ripped up trails everywhere, seeing garbage left all over and all along the trails, etc. Add to that... taxpayers pay for the cleanup. Otherwise, responsible use is fine. I've quaded, I have friends who do, some groups put money into creating bridges (some don't care). Its going to be hard on all the users now... especially with the bad image that's been created. Cheers, Harps (BTW, this is the link to the CBC story: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/calgary/story/200...-destroyed.html )
  4. Lots of great spots even on the I15 from Great Falls to Helena (check out the river below Canyon Ferry Dam). On Sunday there was a ton of rise forms all along the highway (it seemed like ever trout water from Lethbridge to Ennis was chock full of splashy trout!!). If only I had brought my rod... Montana has scenery that Alberta won't touch until after the next ice age... also the spring creeks...
  5. I have the 3wt which I love for small criks. A little softer rod and progressive, nice and easy to cast.
  6. Gartside Philo Caddis Emerger http://www.danica.com/flytier/tdidas/garts...dis_emerger.htm
  7. Soft grey in colour or soft in texture?? If its the aftershaft, you can use it to tie a great caddis emerger. Here is a good run down of what you can use various feathers for... it for a pheasant, but works for partridge too. http://www.blueribbonflies.com/howto/flyty...asantskin.shtml
  8. Great shots... brings good memories. Is that a Grass rod??
  9. I found that too. It's well worth it to just buy a whole skin then you get your pick. 1 full turn is all you need most times, but there is no such thing as under or over dressing 'em. Sometimes too long is good too. A whole "brotherhood" on fishing and tying flymphs (Spiders, Wingless Wet,. Winged Wets, Flymphs or Soft Hackles, etc) http://outdoorsbest.zeroforum.com/zerothread?id=367995 http://www.flymph.com/ http://picasaweb.google.com/pharps/Flies/p...859385346537618 http://www.dtnicolson.dial.pipex.com/ Cheers,
  10. I always thought calgary was the new centre of the Universe?? Every time I go I meet people who moved there from Toronto anyways, plus the driving is worse in Calgary and the air sucks. But the fishing is Damn Good, I guess...
  11. I was 3 years in SALH (recon/light armour) before deciding the environment was more important to me. Lived on CF bases with my Dad or on the ranch in near Pincher Creek with Mom's family, for most of my life. Also was a civy instructor for Air Cadets in Medicine Hat for a number of years. My dad was 30 years in the RCLdSH (armoured), multiple tours overseas and all that. My next younger brother served in Afganistan before becoming a Calgary city police officer. Also have a bunch of uncles, great grandparents, and other various relatives that serve or did, many in combat.
