18. I pinky swear.
-
You can't pinkie swear here, that's for the needlepoint forum! Nice fish boys. Makes me wish I taped a few of mine.
-
Beauty pics Wes, you captures some fantastic images. The lightning is very cool, as are the moose and many other ones too. I also really like the Beaver!

18 inches 450mm sounds better.

MTB, I sent it off to the New Zealand fly fishing forum too. I hope they'll like it as much as we do ('cept none of them are in it!) Obi-Juan -
You are right Hawg, I could have sworn I made it up, but now that you mention it I remember that. Dang! I'll never make genius at the rate I'm going. Sorry bro, no thunder stealing intended. My public flogging may now commence.

Ass-kickin-rockin'-out-first-class-fantabulation brother. Thanks for putting that together for all of us, and a big thanks from me to Dave for FFC, for the admin team, and all you other addicts (like me) that keep plugging into this groovy forum. Wicked good job MTB, lookin forward to fishing with you when you get back. -
I made it up, Hawgstoppah. I like it! Obi-Juan Kenobi

Mad, crazy, are they not the same somehow in the long run? Just kiddin' SJW, you know I love you. In man way, not like a Brokeback way.

If you reply to this SJW, you will have exactly 81,502 posts. I would expect that more from one whom is unemployed and hanging out at the career centre waiting for a gig. Good on you that you can push dern near 82,000 posts and have a full-time job! Well done! "There is the Juan, and the non-Juan. There is no middle." - Glenbow

Less Than 3 Weeks To New Zealand.
Glenbow replied to Glenbow's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I am choosing to spend as much of my time away in the wild either chasing trout, or just looking around. I will also admire the culture that is the cities that I will visit, although as most of us would prefer, I will choose to lose myself in nature. I do want to learn what it is to be there, and I think that includes the cities and the wild (for me). I understand the S island to be the 'mostest' but I really want to spend some time on both islands to feel it out for myself. I will let you know for sure what my impressions are. I am going with an open mind, and I will be pleasantly suprised with what adventures befall me. I can say this though, unless I travel with an open mind, I will not experience all that my destination has to offer. Anything I can tell you, I will. -
Sage advice from the master, alhuger. It is our benefit that we can have the counsel of so many of the board members to provide us with these learned insights. I wish you happy fishing & good luck!

Cdone, Taupo is the destination on the N island. I will be guided there by Craig Farrar, and also fish myself there for a few days. I can hardly wait. BBB, I will provide as much info as I can ( and hopefully pics too) on my trip. I am also planning on hitting Tas for a fish, as I have a buddy that will fly me down there for gas, so I'd be an idiot not to go. We'll see how much of an idiot I really am. (I'm betting BIG idiot, based on my life up to now). I will also be fishing the Snowy Mountains area of Australia, so I hope there are going to be some pics from there too. I have had almost exclusively good interactions with the guides in NZ, and I will be happy to report on what everything turns out like. Esleech, bacon tastes waaaaaaaay better when a nice girl prepares it for you.....strore bought or otherwise! ( I can't shoot stuff - 'cept targets) Brownstone, I will hook a trophy just for you. I will say it out loud when I do, and email you the pic when I do. PM me your email so I can send this once-in-a-life-time pic to you. Cheers Greg. Colin, no nets for me man! Just kidding, it's cool knowing you've been there & I am so stoked to get there too. I hope the board members don't mind an exhaustive post once I return. I hope to have lots of pics & info to share, so anyone from the board who wants to go will have a good base of info to start with for their trip of a lifetime. Glenbow -
Got all my accoms & car rentals booked & guides too on both the N and S islands, and I can hardly sleep waiting to get over there. Fishing starts Nov 23 and goes until Dec. 02, and I have several days exploring water on my own lined up (with a smidge of help from the guides I've hired). Man-oh-man, I wish I was going tomorrow. Must......sleep............... Here's a link to a great site on guides/fishing in NZ: www.flyfishingnz.co.nz Also, the NZ flyfishing forum - stop by & sign-in & become part of it all! www.flyshop.co.nz/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi

Good job Birch. Don't forget us little people. Nice fish.

Pentax Optio W30 all the way. Waterproof & takes great pics - $400 or less. I love mine.
-
Wes, your hands got bigger. & hopefully other things did too.

You old guys can't eat that, you gotta take your teeth out & just suck the marrow! Just kiddin' boys, looks tasty to me. Reminds me of the flintsones, 'cept Fred was better lookin'. & how 'bout that Wilma? Grrrrrrrrr.

Without having the whole thing totally clear in my head, I would hypothesize that a double spey might be the answer. Treat picking up the line as you would with raising the line after casting a dry to a finicky riser - use the rod & gently lift until you get your line out of the water (at least up to the leader) & lift for the first spey. Make sure your first spey brings your fly to the opposite side of you for the second spey. I have trouble with crossing my line when double spey casting, so I am not the best source for advice! I of course am no pro at this and tend to use the spey for stillwater where this is easier to do. On moving water I am even more of a hack than on stillwater, on which I am still a hack. But I caught fish & that's good! Give this a try (if it makes sense to you) and see if it works for you. If not, sorry I couldn't be more help, and good luck. Gordon, what say you?

Glad I yanked my RRSP's last week.

Don't kid yourselves. This is no contest, it is a thread about the Wire SJW, with a timmie's in one hand. Sorry BBB, it's just true. Ugly, but true. I salute you, DavDev.

Albright knot. Super easy, super strong. It's what I use. Google it & you'll see how easy it is to do.
