That's about right. Either that, or I think that the issue is more than a little overblown.

I'll give the answer that most will give if they are honest. Never. Nor will I. Call it lazy, call it irresponsible, call it whatever. Life is too busy to wash waders and boots. And if you are truly worried about this, ask the exact same question about the Crow.

I can't stop watching the coverage of the tragedies in Japan. In what was so long ago it seems like a previous life, I ran nuclear power plants for the Navy. Plants not all that dissimilar from the ones that are releasing radiation right now. I don't have the slightest idea how all this is going to play out, I can only hope that they get this under control. But as an ex-operator, my heart goes out to all the people who are quite literally risking their lives to try to stabilize the situation. And all of that with the Japanese operators having to deal with the loss of their homes, possibly missing family, and just the trauma of everything that has gone on their. One can hardly imagine.

Married, 3 kids, 1 wife, 7 rods, approximately the same number of reels (not really sure). But I've only been doing this 5 or 6 years now. I'll catch up to SD eventually.

I have an Amundson 10 ft 5 wt that I bought for a lake (chironomid) rod, like Monger said, to help casting very long leaders. I use it a lot on the Bow. Easier to mend, high stick, roll cast, etc. I don't find the extra length makes me more tired. If I know I will be mostly nymphing of fishing streamers, it is pretty much my go to rod on the bow.

Floating The Bow--best Time Of Season To Go.

There are no wrong answers here, but here is what I would do if I had 3 trips: 1. Late April/Early May--if anything like last year, the caddis fishing was unreal at times. Mostly browns, but there were lots of them! 2. Just after runoff, during Stampede week. The river is usually on fire around then 3. Late August/Early September. Weather is starting to turn, colors are unreal and lots of fish still looking up. -

What To Expect From A Guided Experience

I would like to start with a disclaimer that I never fished the 3 yrs I lived in Hawaii. I was too interested in other forms of catch and release at the time. That said, my cousin was stationed there a few years after I was and used to catch tons of bones on the flats near Hickham AFB. Don't know how accessible those flats are to civilians, but I can't imagine there aren't more flats to fish on Oahu. My cousin said the biggest issue he had while fishing there was stopping the big bones from running him off the reef into deep water and breaking him off. He was spin fishing but the way. Said he wished he had learned to fly fish while he was there! -
Blah, blah. Troutlover catches fish, what else is new? I will be calling for directions to Frenchman's Creek!!

Hello Everyone, I am starting to gather donations for the 2011 Streamwatch Auction. I will be starting the auction sometime in late March. The members of this board have been more than generous in both donating and bidding on items. Last year we raised in the neighborhood on $8,000.00. I'm hoping to hit the 10K mark this year! As to what we will accept for donations, the answer is basically anything. Last year we had everything from Shrimp (to eat, not to fish with), to nets from New Zealand, to trips to the remote backcountry, to flies of every description, and everything in between. I would appreciate it if anyone who wants to donate PM's me. I would prefer to keep the items secret until I put them up. And I do stagger the auctions to try to avoid multiple similar items being up at the same time. My goal is to raise the most money possible! Here is the link to Streamwatch: Streamwatch If you want an idea of what we have auctioned in the past, go to the Streamwatch Forum. The last 3 years of auctions are there. Thanks to everyone for their continued support.

I have a Garmin GPSMap 60CSx. I think it has been replaced by the GPSMAP® 62st. I did do a quick look on eBay, and the 60CSx is like $220.00 (newest version is like $500). These are more ruggedized (which I like because I am brutal rough on gear), and I think that they have better reception due to the external antenna. I have never had the reception go out on me in the back country. Like any LCD screen, it can be hard to read in direct sunlight. I don't know how many more features the newer versions have, nor how rugged the touchscreen versions are. The 60CSx does everything I need it to do, and more. And I have the ibycus maps as well.

I love these types of conversations. Basically, they boil down to: "Whatever method I use to fight a fish is correct. Anyone who fights a fish longer or shorter is doing it wrong."
-
You must always remember, fly fishing is a serious business conducted by serious people. Any film should be of a serious nature about serious subjects treated in a serious manner. Frivolity or Tom Foolery is seriously frowned upon and will be treated as a serious infraction of serious sensibilities. Serious letters and emails lamenting any frivolous treatment of serious subject will be sent.

What's Up With This

Most of my money is here. How can you trust the American banking system? They are too busy hating on Canada to look after the money properly. High Canadian dollar=good for me! -

That we hate you. And to get back at us, you ran out of beer at the Heritage Classic and made me wait a ridiculously long time to pee. -

They knew I was going to be in the audience. Thanks, NHL. -
I haven't done it either, but more because of lazy than anything else. However, I do have friends that do, and there is no doubt that it increases catch rate by looking at exactly what they are eating.

done. Can't wait to eat my 5 fish! Kidding of course

Decent Digital Camera?

Agree with the above. They all take good underwater shots, but the Canon is the best I've used as an all around camera as well. -
Entry Fee For Canadians
reevesr1 replied to SilverDoctor's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
They do tax Americans working elsewhere. I have to file taxes every year. As long as Canada taxes me more than the US does, then all is fine. But if they didn't, I would owe in the states. A friend of mine here (another American who is a permanent resident) thought of going into consulting here. But since corporate tax rates in Canada are lower than in the US, he would have had to pay taxes to the states. I think after you have been gone a certain amount of time, this may not apply. -
I will accept the invitation. May be a long drive, but sure is a pretty one. Drive like going to my condo, and take a right instead of a left!

Your sorta turning into a one issue kinda guy aren't you! I don't think I've ever fished in Banff, or any National Park for that matter. Not that I wouldn't, but I always seem to be there with people who don't fish so it hasn't come up. I would though if the opportunity produced itself. But I will say that I think there is more than enough water without fishing the parks. Selfish statement on my part as I wouldn't miss it since I've never fished it.

I recently switched from a BBerry to an IPhone basically because the plan my work uses stopped supporting blackberries. The BB was pretty indestructible. I have drowned various bb's in the river, probably 6-8 times now. Pull the battery immediately, bring it home and put the phone under a blow drier for 15 min or so, good as new. Somehow I don't think the IPHone would survive the dunking as well.
