Official 2011 Streamwatch Auction Round 3
reevesr1 replied to reevesr1's topic in Fundraisers (Authorized)
If Jared's backcountry goes for more than my luxury accommodation Panorama cutty trip, I will NOT be happy. Especially since that is the weekend he was supposed to help me with my family fly fishing extravaganza in BC. But no worries. Just screwing me over and getting more donations than me. Great friend. -

Looks Like The Streamwatch Auction Is Gearing Up
reevesr1 replied to bigbowtrout's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I just put up the last series of auctions. I plan to run these for 1 week. If ANYONE has anything else to donate, please feel free to do so. I can accept donations up to the weekend. Thanks everyone! -
Welcome fellow anglers... In 2008, Alberta Stream Watch was expanded to include a Stream Watch Officer in the foothills of S.W. Alberta. (for those of you unfamiliar with Stream Watch please visit: Alberta Stream Watch After a successful first year in 2008, the program ran again in 2009 and 2010 and many of you who fished the Oldman/Livingstone area last summer may have had a chance to meet our Stream Watch Conservation Officer, Jeff Cox, who initiated numerous angler interactions and made a significant impact on awareness of stewardship and angling regulations in the area. Please visit Stream Watch Annual Report to see the annual report. You may have also noted the new signage in the area. It's now time again to start our donations drive for Stream Watch 2011 Stream Watch relies on donations from corporations and individuals to fund it's efforts. A good part of the success in our fund raising for the past two years was the result of the Fly Fish Calgary Online Auction, thanks to the generosity of donors and bidders alike. For 2011, Rick Reeves, (rickr) will co-ordinate the Auction, collecting donations and compiling bids. Last year, this auction raised over $8000.00. Rick would really like to surpass the total raised when toolman ran this auction, when in 2008 he raised over $10,000. Now that the economy is beginning to hum along again, hopefully this auction will follow suit! Here is a copy of the highlights of Streamwatch in 2010: I know Stream Watch can count on your continuing support through the Auction and if possible, please consider supporting Stream Watch through an individual or corporate donation. Also, if you know of potential corporate or individual donors that we should contact, please let me know and I'll make sure that happens. Thank you, Al Caldwell Auction Guidelines: You can post your bids on this thread or make a silent bid by sending rickr a pm. When bids for any of the items listed have reached a reasonable offer (met or exceeded market value) and/or, have been posted for a period of time with no new bids forthcoming, we will announce a Closing Notice with a closing date/time for the item. All payments for items are expected to be honored within 10 days of the items closing date. Payment details, including acceptable methods of payments, mailing address and contact information, are explained at the bottom of this page. Your support is greatly appreciated and thanks to all who have already donated generously. Now lets have some fun....Let the bidding begin... ******************************************************************************** Payments can be made by cheque or credit card. So lets get going: ******************************************************************************** 2011 Streamwatch Auction Items ******************************************************************************** 13. Fly Fishing Desktop Wallpapers - $4 each (singles) or 5 for $15 (multipacks) donated by sirocco More from Eric I photographed nearly all of the photos for the TFO Canada website. My work has appeared in Singletrack mountain biking magazine, Travel Photographer of The Year's Journey Two book, and one of my pieces resides in the permanent collection of the Steamwhistle Art Gallery in Toronto. In an effort to support Stream Watch on a long term basis, I decided to turn the photos on the TFO website into downloadable desktop wallpapers. These will be available year-round and will be updated periodically. Although these are purchased through the TFO site, 100% of the proceeds go to Stream Watch. The first donation will go directly to Stream Watch at the end of the FFC Auction, so buy early and often! Browse the wallpapers here: Wallpaper Site Please note these are not suitable for printing. If you have any questions please e-mail me at: erik@templeforkoutfitters.ca From Rick: As these wallpapers can be purchased directly from TFO, via the link above, there is no reason to bid. But if you do buy some, go ahead and say so on the auction thread. Please help Erik and TFO support Streamwatch! ******************************************************************************** 16. Bucket List Golden Trout Aug 7 and 8 donated and Hosted by by fishpro More from Dustin: One day of fishing for Golden Trout on Barnaby Lakes. I am not a guide but have been to the lakes a few times and have successfully landed fish each time I was there. I know the trail and some effective flies that I can provide suggestions on before we go. This auction is for up to 3 anglers, you can bid on one, two, or all three spots of the trip. I will be fishing with participants on this trip. Logistics: I will provide the transportation from Calgary. I will have room for three others in my car, although it may be a little crammed. We will meet the evening of Aug 7 and drive down to the trailhead so that we can get an early start on the trail the next morning. I will be sleeping in my car or pitching a tent, all winning bidders will need to either bring a tent and sleeping bag or drive down in their own vehicle. Note: The hike to the lakes is about a 2.5-3 hour up hill hike and participants will need to be in good physical condition for this trip. Please be prepared for all mountain weather and situations. All liability will be assumed by the participants. From Rick: This trip is for 3 people. Like the Bullhead seminar action, top 3 bidders will get to go on this. I will supply lunch, and, if necessary, enough equipment (rods, reels, and flies) including watercraft (I have a 4-man inflatable, canoe, pontoon boat, and float tube). You supply your own transportation to the lake. I am not a guide; it’s an opportunity just to get some access to some fast and furious stillwater action. This is a trip for 2 anglers, so the top 2 bids will win. (Note: I am planning to fish both days, so the 2 anglers don’t necessarily have to coordinate the days, whatever works, but that’s the weekend)." Camping, Cavorting, and Catching on the Castle donated and hosted byDrBullTrout More from Andrew Up for grabs is a plain old weekend of fishing with me in the Castle drainage...we might catch some fish, we might get tipsy, or maybe both..I make no promises except for good company (unless you hog all the holes)...have accomodations (you can sleep in my trailer if you're not gassy and in a tent if you are) if needed as well as any gear...I get back to my roots (hot dogs, hamburgers and chips) when I camp so don't expect fancy meals or lunches...I will supply sarcasm and high fives for free... Note from Rick: I had the privilege of fishing the Castle a few times last year. Had really good luck on big, feisty cutts, and saw, but could not interest, several large bull trout. Closing notices for Monday at 8 PM put up on many of the items. There are still lots of great deals, including a TFO spey rod valued at $400 currently at $150. And is no one on the board from Edmonton any more? Take it from someone who lives in a neighborhood with a lake, catching big neighborhood rainbows is FUN! -
Wait until the river comes up a bit Rev. Only about waist deep (ok, my waist, not yours) there about right now.

Nice pull Andrew! I loved the Kinks. I was watching the video thinking "how could I have never seen this" until the kid played the tennis racket, then it all came back. I love this part: Describes my high school years almost perfectly.

I got off work a trifle early yesterday and when I walked to the train station, I was struck with how warm it was. So I rushed home, changed as fast as I could, threw a bunch of fishing crap in the car, and took off to a favorite spring time spot for the first time in a long time. This particular spot (I should actually say "area', because there is tons of fishable water) I've fished for the past 3 or 4 years. It was one of those rare places that was really easy to get to, yet few people fished it. Which was sweet, because it was full of fish. It seemed every time I went I discovered something new about it. My friend Jared and I have fished it together many, many times and have our own names for several of the runs. I almost drowned bobloblaw there once. We always knew it wouldn't last. Now there is a parking lot, and dog walkers (nothing against dog walkers, they have every right to the outdoors as well), and constant fishing. When I pulled in yesterday, 2 cars were disgorging their wader clad occupants for a shot at the river. (and I have nothing against that either!). Since I did not have a lot of time, and did not want to try to figure out where I would fit in, I just left for some other favorite water that I was lucky enough to have to myself. But I was certainly disappointed to not have the chance to see if the browns were exactly where I thought they would be. I'm not complaining. This is the way things go. No way places can be kept secret forever, and we had the run of this area for 3 years. It's a great area, but it's suddenly like trying to find a spot at the popular runs in Fish Creek. Your odds of being alone are not all that great. I do wish there wasn't a parking lot though! The good news is that I get to find the next hidden gem. She's out there somewhere, time to find a new friend. I'll visit the old one early in the mornings and late in the evenings when she is a little less occupied.

Official 2011 Streamwatch Auction Round 2
reevesr1 replied to reevesr1's topic in Fundraisers (Authorized)
ok, so we have 3 identical bids on the mapbook, so I should set some rules here for this, and any multiple bid auction. If there are identical bids, and a new higher bid comes in, the person bumped will be whoever bid last on that item. In other words, currently, Smitty was first at $25, PMD second, and FNG third. If a higher bid comes in, FNG would be bumped. I hope that sounds fair to everyone. -

Lined up several more items today, so I have enough to start a new round when this one ends. I am extremely gratified of the number of people who are donating items this year. Many people who have donated the before have done so again, and some notable new people kindly donating their time or talents as well. I am very curious how the backpack trip goes, and there is another backpack trip in the queue. My bet is if they are offered up again next year, the pictures generated on these trips will make them more and more popular. Anyway, there are still lots of people on here that have not bid, which is fine. I certainly don't expect participation from everyone. But I would like to say that the trips being donated by members are an excellent chance for new or old fly fishers to meet new people, hopefully fish new water, learn new techniques, and get to donate to a great cause. I have been fortunate to be able to meet people on trips I've donated, and on trips I've bought. I can honestly say that every person I've met on these trips I have fished with on additional trips. And I am privileged to call most of them friends (all except Taco cuz he catches too many fish and his truck stinks like cow). So there is my latest public service announcement. Please get out there and bid! Oh, and did I mention there is a freakin' TFO Spey Rod for sale? For like $40? (sorry troutlover, but I gotta get the price of that one up!!) -

Have We Gone Way Past Silly?
reevesr1 replied to DonAndersen's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
And that is the problem. The industry needs people to buy lines far more often than every three years. So to do that need to convince you that you need the latest and greatest. That or something more specialized. Same with rods, reels, leaders, you name it. I haven't really done this with fishing, but back when I golfed a ton I would almost always buy clubs that were 1-2 yrs old. Top of the line, but from a couple of seasons ago. I took full advantage of the people who always had to have the latest and greatest. I was good enough to know that the latest and greatest from 2 yrs ago was more than adequate for me. The golf industry, like the fishing industry, does everything it can to convince golfers they NEED to have the newest. And enough people worship at that altar to keep the industry humming along. -
