    Pics--may

Those are some fat rainbows. Nice lookin country too.
  2. Nice looking pics. Those panaramic pics of the mountains are beautiful. What camera are they taken with?
  3. My weekend trip to find Browns has payed off with some of the nicest looking Browns I have caught to date. Don't have much experience fishing for browns but this weekend the fishing gods have been generous. Biggest was 20" and all were 17" or more. Throw in some rainbows and a couple 20" in the same lake and it makes for great fishing. Hard to pull myself away from this lake but have to try another one tomorrow. Here are a few pics from the last 2 afternoons (have to work mornings so can't fish). Never new a lake like this could still exist in Alberta.
  4. We'll actually be staying in Butte and driving down Sat morning. We will be going back to Butte that night and just walk and wade fishing on Sun. Not sure where. Was hoping for a nice river a little closer to Butte. Any suggestions from people who know the area for a nice river or creek to walk and wade in the Butte area for Sunday or are those rivers closed for spawning.
  5. Thanks for the info. Looking forward to the trip and I think the weather is supposed to be favorable. Mostly targeting browns from what I understand as the rainbows are up the tribs spawning.
  6. I am going this weekend to float the Missouri in Montana near Craig. Anyone float this section of river this time of year. Going down to float with a friend of my cousin who lives in Butte and fishes the river quite a bit. Any suggestions from anyone who has been down there? I'm sure the guy taking me will know the river pretty good but was just wondering what to expect from anyone who has fished it before. Thanks.
  7. Pflueger trion reels on ebay are under $100 even after shipping. Have ordered a few Pflueger president reels for right around a hundred and I am completely satisfied with them. My first reel was a 5wt trion off ebay that I paid $75 for and really liked it. Just upgraded to the president for the larger arbor and the price difference wasn't all that much. With the dollar being so good you can't lose buying on ebay right now. Just my opinion.
  8. Definately small creeks with clear water where you can see the fish reject you first 4 nymphs the suck in the 5th. Nothing better in my mind. Also like fishing lakes when you know there are some real pigs down there that could strike at any time. Even nice floating a lake for a day and catching nothing if your the only one out there. Had a bear come down to the shore of Nine Bay and watch me fish for a while and then kicked around to the other side of the island and followed a garter snake as it swam across the lake.
  9. Here is a link to a website for a flyfishing club in Prince Albert. My dad belongs to it. Great bunch of guys with good knowledge of where to fish in the area. Look through the photo gallery and you can see there is some very nice fish to be caught. Mostly stillwater fishing. There are a few creeks north east of Prince Albert that have Brook Trout. Can be good fishing but creeks are small with lots of trees and shrubs along the banks. I have caught a few small ones but have also not spent much time there. I know people that have hiked and worked for some bigger ones. They are usually in the beaver dam areas. I go back every spring for about a week and hit a bunch of lakes with my dad. Very few fisherman. Usually have the whole lake to yourself. There are a few lakes with short hikes that you carry a belly boat into that can be real productive. I have caught brookies, rainbows, splake, tiger trout and walleye on the fly all in the same day. Tons of lakes, great stocking program and very little fishing pressure. Definatley a great place to go for stillwater fishing. Notice in the photo galleries that they do come out to the mountains on a trip once a year to the Crowsnest area for something different. If you do some searching you can find a lot of info on stocking reports and depth maps for all of Saskatchewan. http://www.nwf.ca/photogallery.htm
  10. Thanks for the info guys. It looks like a DT is the line of choice for this situation. I have read that over lining is good for shorter casts because the rods are rated to perform best assuming a certain amount of line weight ( at least 30'). Inside of this distance the extra weight from going to a 4wt would help the performance of the rod. Any thoughts on this? I will probably stick with a 3wt line anyway but just thought I would get some other opinions or reasons for people over lining. Thanks again.
  11. I recently picked up a 3wt rod for fishing the mountain streams. I am about to buy line for it and was wondering what would be the best way to go. WF or double taper? Have only used WF in the past and am not sure if there is any advantage to using a double taper line. Casting distance will not be a factor as it will be used on small streams. Probably won't cast more than 30'. Also any advantage to over lining to a 4wt? I have read lots on over lining with mixed results. If anyone here has had this same set up any info from your experience would be appreciated. The rod is a 3wt Sage SLT and the reel a Hardy Angel Featherweight. Thanks in advance.
