dharvey Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 So Saturday morning we went fishing under the 22x bridge for a bit and damn near every cast into the river would bring back this slimey transparent something stuck to our lines. I don't know how to discribe it other than it was clear or white, it sometimes had chunks in it that were greenish but I couldn't see any larvae or bugs in it. Anyone shed some lit on it? Quote
birchy Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I believe that is Didymo (which is the nasty stuff that is always talked about in reference to cleaning your gear before going to different rivers).. http://www.fish.state.pa.us/water/habitat/...didymo2x600.jpg Quote
seanbritt Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I'm not sure how to insert a link to an existing thread from the board, but more info. can be found under "featured articles." Its called "Didymo, please take precaution." Good stuff about the potential dangers to other fisheries and the role of transference (e.g. boats, felt soled boots, etc.). Quote
Harps Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 There was talk about it a couple of weeks ago here: http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?...amp;#entry85454 (the Featured Article mentioned above by Tightline) Quote
ÜberFly Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Do you mean "Slim" or "Slime"?! reevesr1 Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 It seems to me there is a bit less this year than last? There would be time last year where you would have to clear some off like every other cast. This year it does not seem nearly as bad, at least to me. Quote
Brownstone Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Didymo - It'll clear up a little after run-off when other alga's start to bloom and flows stabilize .. I believe the reasoning for so much now is lack of competition for nutrients that Algae live on. Quote
