So Saturday morning we went fishing under the 22x bridge for a bit and damn near every cast into the river would bring back this slimey transparent something stuck to our lines.

I don't know how to discribe it other than it was clear or white, it sometimes had chunks in it that were greenish but I couldn't see any larvae or bugs in it.

Anyone shed some lit on it?

I'm not sure how to insert a link to an existing thread from the board, but more info. can be found under "featured articles." Its called "Didymo, please take precaution." Good stuff about the potential dangers to other fisheries and the role of transference (e.g. boats, felt soled boots, etc.).

It seems to me there is a bit less this year than last? There would be time last year where you would have to clear some off like every other cast. This year it does not seem nearly as bad, at least to me.

Didymo - It'll clear up a little after run-off when other alga's start to bloom and flows stabilize .. I believe the reasoning for so much now is lack of competition for nutrients that Algae live on.
