Pontoon Boat Saftey Regulations

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I was just at the Governments website for boating regulations and am a little confused as to where a pontoon boat falls regarding required safety equipment.

Does anybody know what is required besides a PFD, signaling device and maybe an anchor?????

I have this week off and finally get to take my new boat out and see how it works.

Thanks

When I took the boating test a few years ago I got into an argument regarding some of the rules. Due to the length, the instructor was adament that I needed a bailing bucket, and I couldn't get him to change his mind :)

A bailing bucket for a pontoon boat? Was the man on crack? Damn pencil pushers, tell him to get his face out of a book and learn something about water crafts. Life jacket and signalling device, you should be fine. If you get stopped for anything i'd be surprised considering I just floated the bow yesterday in a CLUB 400 crappy tire raft with just a life jacket and a cooler full of "water". They fire dept. was fine with everything we had.

Depends on who checks you.The rangers in the parks go by the book to the inth degree, you have to have it all,PFD,whistle, bailer and so on and so forth.Fish & Wildlife are content with a PFD in my experience. What the hell am I going to do with a bailer in a toon boat, bail out the lake if I get into trouble?
