This simple fly accounted for two fine trout on Sunday, and the same for my fishing buddy, we think the colour and the sequin added to the fly made it very attractive to the fish, we fished it deep and gave it a slow jerky retrieve, this was after spending most of the day getting nothing on the traditional winter patterns, as you can see it is very easily dressed and takes no explaining

Nice tie. I got 2 questions: What size of hook? It looks relatively small. Does the sequin add any motion to the fly? I have never experimented with sequins.

The hook is a size #8 heavy weight medium shank, but you can use any size hook you want, make it as big or as small as you need for the fish you're going after, and yes the sequin makes the fly move somewhat like a popper only under the water and not on the suface, the sequin can be placed on the hook either convexed or concaved, each gives a different degree of movement, concaved it will move water to the side like a bow wave, convexed it stutters pushing the water ahead of the fly, it would be like trying to swim with a dinner plate glued to your head.
