bulltrout Posted December 21, 2007 Author Posted December 21, 2007 Ok I stayed up all night on my very first fly and here it is Hook: Mustad 34011 2/0 Tag: Medium Oval Tinsel Body: Green floss, ribbed with red and silver holographic tinsel Underbody: Tricolor Flash RED GOLD GREEN, Green Saddle feather Wing: Red and White buck tail Eye: Jungle Cock Black Laquered Head. Dave I have a lot of time off over Xmas so lets get out and I will land a 20"+ on this sweet fly YOU GAVE ME ya.....no....not happening chris... Quote
hydropsyche Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I'll admit, this is a previous tied fly but I've never revealed it on this (or the old) site before (if memory serves me). Sadie's Special Tag: Oval Silver, black floss, GP crest. The red feather is also from a golden pheasant. I believe its from the base of the tail. Body: Red Ostrich herl, Oval Silver, black floss Throat: Burnted Red Spey Hackle, Wood Duck Wing: White Lady Amherst, GP tippet, GP crest and a strip of that same base-of-tail feather Head: Black Ostrich Herl, twisted gut eye I think thats the material list. Not as technically difficult as CapeB's, but visually appealing. The picture sucks because it was taken with a old film camera and scanned. Quote

CapeBSalar Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 That's SWEET!! My favorite part of this fly is definitely the wing and the way you have managed to hold the topping and tail so closely to it, it's perfection!! Wonderful job. Quote
ggp Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 CapeBSalar and Hydropsychy....you have both tied excellent flys....well done!!! Quote
lonefisher Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Well we had several different styles so I decided to go with the one no one had touched. So now presenting my first spey/dee inspired fly. Hook- Patridge of Redditch 1/0 Tag- red thread, silver xtra small oval tinsel, lilac pearl silk Tail- Golden Pheasant crest dyed red orange tyed splayed Butt- Black ostrich herl Body rear 2/3- blue silk reverse rib- 2 xs oval silver tinsel & purple silk Full rib- 2 xs gold oval tinsel & Silver flat tinsel Body front 1/3 webby dark chartruesse ringneck pheasant dubbed Hackle- Ringneck pheasant rump feather dark chartreusse Hackle counter rib- xs oval silver tinsel Throat- Brown RN pheasant rump, natural barred Gadwall flank Wings- Bronze mallard Head- Black thread 3 coats of varnish Lots of new materials to me so hopefully I didn't miss any in the recipe. On a side note- It may look like I finished the head too far back but this is the way it is supposed to be done according to my research. However if anyone has any experience with these flies I would be interested to know how close I got to the optimal posistion. Quote
