Goggin
Wondering how far down from Calgary the bow would be ice free to fly fish, don’t know the river at all so the thought of standing on an ice ledge to fish doesn’t appeal to me
Dangus
If you know the river reasonably well, Just step off the ledge or hike in to the head and fish/wade down beside the ledge. Fairly certain every hole has at least some form of ledge at the moment. But I could be wrong.
BurningChrome
I think you're likely to find more ice the further down from the city you get. There's less ice in the city is because of the warm water coming out of the sewage treatment plants, especially Bonnybrook. If you don't know the river at all, now might not be the best time to try learning it by yourself. Maybe find someone who'll fish with you or hold off until the river clears up some more.
fishinglibin
Be very aware of silent creepers. Sheets of ice can sneak up behind you and take you out. Almost happened to me.

What he said. worry far more about the creepers than breaking a shelf. even a 4 sg ft creeper can take you out.
Dangus
Ha it’s crazy how fast those things move. Make an effort to look upstream with every new cast. Further upstream if you got a slow swing!
