scel
My best friend's grandfather passed away this past spring. A mystery tube of fishing rods appeared at his home last week. The PVC tube was filled with bamboo fishing rods, including this fly rod. http://imgur.com/gallery/dkUcM/new Would someone be able to help me figure out what this rod is? Who made it? a possible line weight? Many Thanks EDIT: it is a 3piece 9' rod. A safe estimate places the rod at 40+ years old

SilverDoctor
are there any marks or logos on the rod close to the grip?
scel
are there any marks or logos on the rod close to the grip? None. There is only one marking engraved on brass on the butt-end of the grip section. The best I can deduce is "Feather Wright'
DonAndersen
The reel seat is probably Varmac which is a low priced reel seat. Ferrules are step down w/o tabs. Again low priced. Pictures are too crappy to for any more comments. Ricks rods stocks some Varmac that look the same - see: http://www.ricksrods.com/product_view.asp?pID=796 Don

I know that I do not take great pictures. What would help? I am happy to take new pictures. How would you determine line weight for the rod? SilverDoctor
Try it with a 6wt and go from there.
DonAndersen
scel, I'm with Silver on line weight selection. Start @ 6. If this is your first bamboo experience, they do not feel like graphite rods. They tend to respond a lot slower. Your timing is not as critical. Don
