darrinhurst Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Found this article on the Book of Faces today. Interesting read. We've all read the 5wt shootout for fly rods, but this is the first reel shootout I've seen. Winner likely isn't much of a surprise, but some of the other results may be. http://www.tridentflyfishing.com/blog/2015-5-weight-reel-shootout-fly-reel-review-and-test-best-trout-reel-lamson-hatch-abel-ross#.VNrIWEdGDRE.facebook 1 Quote

bigalcal Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 This makes me even more appreciative of winning a Galvan reel at the Fly Fishing Expo!! 3 Quote
jasonvilly Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I have the orvis access, may not look the best, but it is pretty good reel for the cheap price. 1 Quote
darrinhurst Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Dang, just bought a Ultralite DD 5000... Still seems like a sweet reel I just bought the same reel for my 6wt! Silver lining....fastest retrieve out of them all. However, I do have two Access reels on my 5 and 3wt's. So yay me! 1 Quote
Snouthunter Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I actually have a ultralight 5000 dd and I think it's probably one of the best reels I own the retrieve is pretty amazing but I do however still love my islander reels just something about the way they sound I guess. Quote
Chrissw Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 If it's not a click and pawl I don't want it. 1 Quote
Vagabond Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 If it's not a click and pawl I don't want it.X2....interesting that they give points for sound, with the scoring criteria being "most classic sounding" reels.....hmmmmAlso,hard for me to give much credibility to a reel shootout that doesn't even include Islanders. 1 Quote
