TerryH
I caught this fish in the Crowsnest River, upstream of the falls, on Saturday. It sure looks like a Cutthroat to me, but it didn't have the red slash on the throat. So, the logical (?) conclusion is that it was a Cuttbow. However, it seems to me that any other Cuttbows I've caught had rainbow markings on the side, but also, the red slash on the throat. This one seems to be the other way around. What gives? Flytyer
Genetic quirk of a cross breed maybe?
birchy
I'm a newbie.. but from what I've seen that just looks like a typical "crowsnest rainbow": *EDIT* - now that I see the two side by side.. they do look different.

Terry I have seen the same thing on the lower Oldman, Cutthroat body and no slashes or very faint ones. But they all fought more like cutts than rainbows, no aerial acrobatics. Taco
Cutthroat... faded or nonexistent throat slashes are fairly common in bigger fish in certain southern drainages. While heavily spotted it has typical colouration for a cutt. Also no white tips on the pectoral fins which is common in crossbreds but you wanna know for sure reach in with your little finger and feel for basal teeth... the mongrels won't have them. reevesr1
Here is one I caught in the early Spring on the Crow. Rainbow (I thought) with very similar colors, but look at the tips on the pectorals. Is it a cuttbow?
