Anybody Tying With Raw Wool

Recommended Posts

I was looking for a replacement for snowshoe hare foot, and wondered if raw wool might do it (for some dry caddis patterns). If you are tying with it, how is it used. I have a couple of clumps from a farming friend, but it is uncarded. Looks like it may have potential. Looking for some help, so I dont have to climb the learning curve alone.

Thanks

Tied with wool in the past, its great for dubbed bodies and sheds water well. Never tried it for a wing material like you would use snowshoe hare foot for but I imagine you could just pull it out a few times to align the fibers and tie a clump in for a wing. I do love snowshoe for wing material and makes nice emergers also.
