Favorite Flybox Style

Hello;

Just got back from Bob at Stream Weavers today, and bought a couple boxes. Small individual lids / compartments to hold #20 BWO's. Do you Hoolios prefer individual compartment or the big foam hook in style boxes?

For dry flies I prefer individual compartments. Hackle can be misshapen pressed against foam.

Most of my flies are in split foam, double lidded boxes. Small drys in individual compartment type boxes. 90% of my flies are dry's.

I just bought my first box this past season and got a split foam angled one... It's ok, but really doesn't have the depth for lots of dries.

I like and use for my drys the older Wheatley boxes , everything else is in whatever, cliffs boxes are good in my opinion

I have a lot of different boxes so I like a clear lid and split foam design so I can see what it contains. On the negative side I recall trying a compartment style (with the little doors) with dries one time. Took it to the Oldman and watched my flies leave with the first wind....

I don't need a box, just shove all my san juan worms in my pocket and go....

 

Nothing like a quintuple san juan worm rig to slay fish. Just remember to whip it behind your head 500-600 times. Create that worm hatch.

I like the clear (with largish) individual compartment boxes for my drys. I can see them through the lid and keep several flies in each compartment. They cushion against each other and the hackles don't seem to get damaged. I label the lid top with sizes sometimes over certain compartments.

 

For nymphs and streamers I use old Perrine boxes mostly....

I have a deep black box for all my streamers and my other two are clear double lidded foamed boxes. I'm still figuring out how to keep them all organized though. I really like the ability to see through the lids.

I like the clear, double-lidded type boxes....the hackles are safe on my dries, and I can see into my boxes without opening them.

Scientific anglers for my nymphs and dries, for streamers i use the clear compartment boxes. You can get them in small sizes at princess auto.
