I have noticed something strange for the last few years while lake fishing for Rainbows in the Pothole lakes around Edmonton. In the first half of the season, I find the fish will run outwards and during the last half of the season tend to come towards me. (Not all of them but it is noticebly different from spring to fall.) It does not seem to be a pattern dependent situation.

Is there a reason for this that anyone knows?

Do you experience the same in the southern lakes?

Perhaps they know winter is coming and they want you to drag them out? I don't know other than perhaps it is a directional light thing, but that would be a wild drug induced guess!

gravitational pull around edmonton fluctuates between fall and spring? magnetic disturbance?

not something i have noticed, probably because i am more surprised than the fish that i actually have a fish on the end of my line.

Let me clarify this. The stockers (12-14") do what they do, they take off in any direction. I'm talking the larger fish (16" +). Do you think the larger fish learn to swim in the direction where there is least resistance? I have talked to several people up here that have noticed the same.
