Xplorer Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 Hey guys, I have been fishing streamers on the bow quite a bit lately and last year. I have been using a floating line but keep reading that a full sinking line would be better. Do I need a full sinking line or will a sink tip work? Thanks Lance Quote
EveretteD Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 I've also wondered this question. I'm currently using a floating line with a sink tip. Various lengths. But I have also wondered about a clear intermediate line. Any thoughts? Quote
Guest Grinr Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Sink tip! X2! There's very few( if any?)pools/runs/conditions on the Bow that would warrant using a full sinking, and FS is also a real PITA to pick up and recast. Quote
Gil Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 A sink tip is fine for the Bow, however I prefer a full sinking line.... Quote
softhackle Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Sink tip. Less control with full sink. Floating line is good from drift boat and bombing the pockets along shore. Quote
SilverDoctor Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Lots of control with a full sink, like all things it take practice. Love it for deep holes. Quote
mnm Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Full sink, and the faster the better. less mending, than a sink tip, also easy to mend in mid air. Fish with a short leader 6" to 18 ". . Take a look at Kelly Gallops videos , their all about sinking flylines and accuracy . Better yet read the book Nymph Fishing for Larger Trout by Charlie Brooks. And stop hitting yourselves in the back of the head with your heavy streamers and nymph rigs. Goodluck Quote
Guest 420FLYFISHIN Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 in the summer i would go full sink as the speed your retrieving will pull your streamer to the top even with a sink tip. Quote
ironfly Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 I don't like full sinks on rivers, as I find they always hang up on a snag, and I've ruined a couple lines trying to get them to come loose. I'd recommend a fast-sinking, long-head sink tip. Airflo's StreamerMax is fantastic. Quote
