You Guys Are Smart Right?

Recommended Posts

a friend of mine has dug up an old fly rod in his garage but we can't find any information on-line about it. it's a 8'6" berkley para/metric cp40 8wt. it seems to be in nice shape but i don't have anything heavier than a 5wt line so casting it is pointless. can anyone out there shed some light on this mystery? is it fiberglass? is it worth anything? is it a piece of junk?

thanks smart people.

Fiberglass, probably cast a line weight lighter than marked using modern lines. If it were a 8 foot or shorter 5wt Parametic it would be a highly desired rod for a vintage rod nut but being a heavier longer rod in good shape maybe 50-60 bucks on evilbay maybe 75 on a good day. Make a helluva bass rod though, the warmwater boys seem to like them.

I owned one, bought it new in 73'. Good caster for the time, fiberglass rod, Mine liked a 6 wt. Heavy by today's rods standards but good action. They have a small group that collect them. I've seen them go for between $40 & $130 depending on condition, if it has it's original tube, sock and papers. With fiberglass sun is not their friend.

Let me know if you need more info.
